Just glancing at the latest DWM in Smiths today, and our new showrunner opines that you could do The Invasion with Ten and not have to change any of the Doctor's lines.
Also that Matt Smith appears to have become a Troughton fan, which is all to the good ;D

Matt Smith is a two fan? You mean Matt Smit has actually sat down and watched some doctor who? Really? I don't believe it.

but wait! this smacks of lack of truth as while Matt was doing his first interview on set he n Karen both said they hadn't seen ANY Doctor who and that's on set so Moffat gushing about how much Matt just LOVES Troughton and how he may have picked his costume as it reminded him of two...well I call BS, since Matt had to have a costume to be filming and that first interview (during filming) Matt said he hadn't seen any DW.

Always with the reality check, Merry... ;D
Hmm, I think you may be right about the timing of it - I doubt in any case it's got anything to do with the costuming. These DW showrunners are slippery customers, to be sure, and not to be trusted...
I'll just be over here thinking happy thoughts:
la la la la la la la...

I'll assume once he was seriously in the running for it he would have been watching all he could just to be up to speed on what he was taking on - and then it would only be a natural progression that he would be amazed at Troughton... who wouldn't? I'm very hopeful, at least, very hopeful. Now if he can only pull it off without soap-opera-ness pulling him under it could be quite cheery.
Read a snip where the costumers had originally envisioned Eleven as very piratical looking and Matt insisted otherwise, wanting the geeky professor look he ended up with - hope it's at least a little true!

I'm trying to imagine a 'piratical' Doctor... the closest I can come is Eight. And I'm still not seeing it. And now I have Gallifreyan Buccaneer stuck in my head.

It wouldn't be the first time a Doctor who actor went back and forth on comments. DT is quoted in articles and on camera of claming his favorite Doctor to be both Tom Baker and Peter Davision. I think if Matt did say he loved PT, then either he forgot during the interview (or forgot PT's name since he's so new to the show) or Moffatt forgot when Matt made the comment (perhaps he thought it was before the costume when it actually came after)... or it is possible that shooting was when Matt was still in Ten's outfit and the Eleven outfit wasn't complete yet... watching Two inspired Moffatt and Matt on final details of the outfit. Just a few thoughts....

Piratical? Piratical?? PIRATICAL???
Sorry, that was just an attempted random Six impression... ;D
As I say, I think we've been hanging on Rusty's every word for long enough by now to know that you take anything said in promotional interviews and press releases with a dose of salt. At least, the details may shift around from time to time. Still, as Prim says, I think most professional actors would at least look at _some_ Who having got the part, whether they actually liked it or not, just for research. If the Two thing is true (and I hope it is), then it's very nice, but I don't think being a fan or even liking what previous actors have done with the Doctor is necessary to do a good job playing the part. I mean, Eccleston f'rinstance. We've just been lucky to have a big old fanboy playing the Doctor for the past few years, and it makes us oldschool fans feel a bit special, but it's not a prerequisite or anything...

I would agree a responsible actor WOULD research however while filming Matt said he hadn't. I don't see how on earth he would have thought lying about having NOT seen it when in reality he had, would in any fashion help him.
Perhaps he HAS since seen some, in reality, it hardly matters one way or the other, as JJ said being a fan isn't necessary to playing the part. I'm just bothered by Moffat's quick race to cover the fact.

Well, it does that to you, being in charge of Who. I'm sure they don't mean to fall into webs of treachery and deceit, it just seems to happen...
"These will be the most iconic Doctor Who monsters EVER!"
"The Daleks are NOT coming back!"
"Yes, she's the bravest, cleverest, most loveable companion EVER!"
"The Master's DEAD!"
"It will be the greatest, most epicest, most tear-jerkingest story you've EVER seen!"
I remember when they had Eccles going on Richard and Judy claiming how he loved Doctor Who as a kid. What were his favourite monsters? Er...the Sontarans?! Hey, at least they didn't brief him to say Daleks or Cybermen... ;D
