o.o I dislike the whole, 'Omg, Rose is teh Docter's truuuuuuuue luuuuuv!' It doesn't seem canon (No, not DW canon!) In the past, the Doctor's always moving on after a companion leaves, not pining over the loss. And doesn't go on mentioning her (or him!) for a whole series after. –.–;

We should form a club.

That's not entirely true. The Doctor has become emotional over several of his companions, particularly when he loses them suddenly and involuntarily. For example Susan, Adric, Ian and Barbara, Romana, and Peri. So sadness and remembrance of Rose was very much like other passed loses the Doctor has faced. He missing them and mentions them at points in the series because, like the did with Rose, something reminds him of that companion. It's a very natural thing for anyone to do. As for Rose being his one true love, they did seem to click and emotional words and actions were written in so maybe, but only time will tell. But it is possible. Everyone has and needs someone, even the Doctor. And if you say otherwise, then you'll just being plan mean to the Doctor saying he isn't allowed to have love in his life, a soul mate even. The Doctor deserves love and companionship just as much as any one else in the Universe. He's not heartless or uncaring to not and has shown the emotional desire to need and be needed. o.o I dislike the whole, 'Omg, Rose is teh Docter's truuuuuuuue luuuuuv!' Not a whole series, though. One or two serials, maybe.
I blame Rusty.

I firmly believe that the Doctor's true love was Romana... anyone else just raises FAR too many questions. And so what if she's significantly younger than him; its less of a nursery steal than him and Rose...

Well I can see what you're getting at.... But he didn't keeping refering to her for Rose for the whole 3rd series. The only mentioned occurred in the beginning and end, because the places he went reminded him of her (New New York, Shakespeare) and the episode Jack returned in he had to mention her because Jack was inquiring. Jack also cared about Rose. He had to speak of her and what happened. As for the mention in the Journal of Impossible Things, her mention is no different than the flashbacks all the old Doctors went through during their regeneration, recalling old companion's names and faces. She was a big part of this incarnation of the Doctor, it would be silly to assume she wouldn't be mentioned thoughtfully. The rest was never specifically connected to Rose. They could were more general emo moments reflective of much of the pain and lose the Doctor has been through over the last few seasons. Not a whole series, though. One or two serials, maybe. I blame Rusty.

I suppose we all deserve to believe in whatever pairing or non-pairing we want. Personally, I could care less who ends up with as long as the Doctor is happy and not turned into some intergalactic playboy, just looking for any old skirt. The Doctor deserved that, if nothing else. As for Romana, I suppose I never saw any spark. In fact, she seemed quite turned off by him and like most of the Time Lord society quite exasperated by his personality, antics and beliefs. But like I said, if that's what you enjoy, all power to you. Just don't go out of your way then to destroy the fun for the other ships out there. Be nice. Please?! I firmly believe that the Doctor's true love was Romana... anyone else just raises FAR too many questions. And so what if she's significantly younger than him; its less of a nursery steal than him and Rose...

The Doctor can't save the universe if he's always distracted and thinking with this underpants. I don't mind romance..as long as its not on screen and I don't have to watch it. Its for your imagination to fill in the gaps...not TV.

I think the Doctor was so upset about Rose because after all that post-war angst, losing a companion just made him more angst-y.
But I blame Rusty for the post-war angst.
I agree, if it has to be one of his companions, I'd say Romana (II more so than I). And shippers can take the Pr1me computer ads as canon. xD
Romana I was rather annoyed, but Romana II seemed closer. I haven't even seen all of the serials with Romana II, but I felt they 'clicked'.
But, yes. This is all fanon. Not canon. And let's not get in a pairing battle, 'cos really, all Doctor/someone pairings are fanon.
