Ghost Light was not poorly written! It was just written... while... drunk? And very tired. Yeah, that was it. Drunk and tired. And yes, Pocket!Master. It's a running joke among my friends, mostly 'cause of our supreme desire to possess tiny Master and keep him in our pockets. = ) And the fact that I impulsively and dumbly bought this very scary looking doll at TimeGate that's supposed to be the Master. We named him Pocket!Master. I love it, but it's the scariest dang thing I've ever seen. I just know it's going to kill me one night. = ) Zombie Docs

when I was small my sister had a doll called Pamela, she talked and giggled. When you pushed below her eye she would pipe "Do you like my eyes? Your eyes are pretty" and giggle. I was TERRIFIED of this doll convinced she was waiting beneath my bed to cut my pretty eyes out to add her collection. *shudders* I totally get Pocket!Master being frightening.

What?! Who said Ghostlight was poorly written? If someone was actually serious about that, I might have to leave the comm in high dudgeon*. * Does anyone know where one buys a dudgeon, high or low?

Ghost Light was not poorly written! It was just written... while... drunk? And very tired. Yeah, that was it. Drunk and tired. It wasn't poorly written at all! It has great dialogue. The editor however must've been drunk as a skunk because I don't have a clue what's going on in it... That link is both awesome and terrifying.

The editor however must've been drunk as a skunk because I don't have a clue what's going on in it... The thing about Ghostlight not making sense is a myth. It's just very, very weird, but it has its own complete internal logic. And some of the best dialogue in anything ever. "Now that's what I call Victorian value!" And the 'universe of terrors' bit... Look, LIght is cataloguing the universe, and collecting some specimens, but he's been hibernating and his Survey has got out while Control is still trapped in his space ship. Survey causes trouble, and the Doctor wakes up Light, which turns out to be a Bad Move. ("Even I can't play this many games at once!") It's fantastic and it makes sense. Really. It's got so much in it it needs watching about ten times first, but unlike many episodes, it does have internal logic. *cough* Look, if I list my top 10 DWs they change all the time, but the top two are always Ghostlight and The Robots of Death. I love both of them and you can mutter about husks for one, and Zilda for the other, but they're both just gorgeously written and produced in their own very different ways. ;D So I could be slightly biased in my opinion. But the persistence of the 'incomprehensible GHostlight' myth baffles me, especially in this day and age when you can watch it again. I think Curse of Fenric and Greatest Show are probably more confusing, but they're less densely written. I dunno.... I kow nothing, me.

I'm sorry. I've gone completely off-topic. I couldn't remember what thread I was on.

Well, I was sort of joking about Ghost Light. I do like it. I loved the dynamic that focused on Ace and her fear of the manor in Perivale. I just couldn't keep up with all the crazy stuff going on. By the time I got my head wrapped around one thing, something else would happen, and I'd just be like 'what the heck?' 'Course, I'm usually watching it an 1 in the morning for some odd reason, so that may have something to do with it. I think I need to go out and by the book for it. I tend to understand these things better when I read them at my own pace. Of course, all of this is coming from someone who actually loved 'The Happiness Patrol' a heck of a lot and thought it was one of the best episodes in Doctor Who, so maybe I'm not the best person to be talking about what's a good episode. = ) Yeah, pink!TARDIS for the win. "Happiness will prevail!" = )

...And I LOVE the Happiness Patrol, too!
So, clearly, I don't know what I'm talking about, either. (I still maintain it does make sense, though. It's just wonderfully weird.)

Heh. Well, anyone who likes 'Happiness Patrol' is okay by me. = ) And I'm sure it does make sense. I probably should have paid better attention. Once I read the book, I'll probably get it.

I'll have to give my boat to Happiness Patrol too. And Fenric and Survival, and Battlefield and Ghost Light is great. I'd say the plot requires attention rather than not making sense, but it is one of those stories where even if you don't quite follow it the first time it's still great. I mean, some really good guest actors. good production design and so much good dialogue.
I think the only story I don't like as much out of those last two seasons of classic is probably Silver Nemesis (Battlefield is probably a lesser story too but it has charm, and that's the main thing). Lostspook will Disapprove of me again for saying so... I mean, S24 is a grower too if you ignore people's bad opinions of them and give them a fair shake. I'm a born-again admirer of Delta and the Bannermen, for instance. Although Time and the Rani...yeah, they're probably right about Time and the Rani... ;D

My room mate and I watched Time and the Rani once immediately after watching Voyage of the Damned. Under the circumstances, it was strangely... okay.

I rather liked Time and The Rani, but then again I am diehard Rani fan. With only two episodes with her (four if you count Dimensions in Time and the audio book), I don't really have a lot to choose from. I thought Syl was nice in it and Kate was wonderful as the Rani, as always, but the episode was missing some very important elements. A good story was one. Any sense was another. The idea that the Rani could even remotely look enough like Mel to impersonate her was simply ludicrous. Even Kate O'Mara agreed and thought it was completely silly.
But then again, I don't think there's any episode of Doctor Who I really dislike (with the soul exception of EoT) so I'd still watch it happily enough, but mostly just for the Rani and Syl. I do have to say, though, The Rani was a great deal better, and hotter = ), in 'Mark of the Rani.' Too bad the show ended so soon after The Rani's creation, though. She'd have might a very nice reoccurring character.

My room mate and I watched Time and the Rani once immediately after watching Voyage of the Damned. Under the circumstances, it was strangely... okay. Yeah, but that's like saying poking yourself in the eye with a fork is less painful than dipping your hand in molten gold... Or something... (Seriously, molten gold?? Where did I come up with that one???) But I think RTP is right - when you get right down to it, there are few if any Doctor Who stories that are genuinely appalling rubbish. Even the not-as-good ones have a lot to recommend them and a lot of entertaining stuff going on. I mean, even Dimensions in Time has Romana II talking to Eastenders's Mitchell brothers...

Yeah. Still not sure I understand Dimensions at all, but seeing all those awesome people together makes me still love watching it, canon or no. Which is saying quite a lot. I mean, if we can watch Dimensions and be happy with it, then there really isn't a bad Who episode out there. = )

I've never actually seen any Rani episode. But I can't say anything bad about them! I loved Trial of a Time Lord...
Although I can't help but smirk at the thought of the Doctor being tried for future genocide. Yes, my dear Time Lords, you should have set that Matrix viewer thingie a little bit later....
