Hello there, I'm new to this lovely forum and I just wanted to drop by and introduce myself. I'm a fairly new Doctor Who fan, I started watching when the Sci-fi channel here in the US was showing the Third season of the new series for the first time. I love David Tennant and Peter Davidson and I consider Martha to be possibly the coolest companion ever. Feel free to ask me anything else you'd like to know.
Oh, and you can call me GG

Hello, GG! Welcome to the board, hope you enjoy it here. I was introduced to the show via the Sci-Fi channel as well, albeit about a year before you were.

Hi there GG - as Magnus says, all of that business down at Osgiliath must be a bit of a concern to you, but... ;D
Only kidding; welcome to the boards; I'm sure you'll soon feel at home here, the friendly bunch that they are, and I'd second the Martha thing - I don't think she gets enough love in fandom compared to Donna and Rose (Donna I understand, but Rose...well, outstayed her welcome, didn't she?).

Greetings
*insert witty lotr-themed quip here*
My username say Clocketpatch so that's who I must be. Everyone here is super friendly (well, they tolerate me at least...) I love all of the Doctors, though I occasionally get over excited and say mean things about them (don't believe me for a second; I *do* love Ten despite my unkind words. The pinstripes rock!)
as does your siggy.
WELCOME!!!

Hey, this is great! I'm not the newbie anymore (wow, that didn't last long...)! Good for you liking Martha, she's completely underrated (although I'm more of a Sarah Jane fan myself). Nice to meet you and welcome to the forums, I only joined a few days ago and everyone's really friendly!
Love your avatar, by the way.

I don't know how to do multi quote on here so I'll reply to all of you the hard way Newton: hello Newton, nice to meet you Primsong: Yes, I have become much better at joining forums this was no problem. It is very nice to see you as well magnusgreel: well, they've gotten better since Faramir and I are out in Ithilien all the time (oh yeah, I failed to mention my Faramir obsession ) IMForeman: Thank you. I was introduced to David Tennant before then because I loved him as Barty Crouch Jr., that's part of why I wanted to watch Doctor Who jjpor: Oh we have Osgiliath back now... *ducks as she agrees to the Rose thing* (I'm used to obsessive Rose fans.) She's okay but not nearly as cool as Martha clocketpatch: Thanks for the compliment on my siggy, I was playing around with a whole bunch of Doctor Who pictures in my graphics program and that was one of my favorites starflower: fancy meeting you here silvacat: Yes I have heard of the legendary courtesy of this site and I believe it now, you have all been very welcoming (Thanks, I've had this avatar forever on the Narnia board where I met Primsong and Starflower and I love it too much to part with it)

Probably some people like her but I don't think we have any real obsessive ones unless they're lurking quietly in the shadows. I might be a slightly obsessive Romana fan, but I love other companions too, particularly Martha. Probably the moment that cemented my love for her was in Smith & Jones when she's panicking and has the idea to read the instruction manual for the X-ray machine. That's the kind of thing I would do.

I don't know what it was, she was just amazing, especially in the last three episodes in her season. Not to mention the Human Nature and Family of Blood two parter

Yeah, Martha remains underappreciated, and it goes further than that; you get unkind comments made about the actress and why she left the show and uncalled-for stuff like that. I liked Rose just fine in Season One, quickly went off her in Season Two (I nearly stopped watching NuWho, so greatly did I dislike nearly all of Season Two...nearly, but not quite, because, well, that's what being a fan means, right? ) But yes, Martha was good; the only thing I didn't like was her constant...pathetic...pining over the Doctor which seemed forced and sort of at odds with the rest of her character, seemed like RTD ticking tickboxes rather than something that really made sense. And Donna became the best NuWho companion to date, despite the trepidation with which I approached her, and mainly for the precise reason that they avoided that kind of silliness in writing her. My favourite companions remain oldschool ones, though; Ace, Romana and Liz Shaw, although Jamie's great too, and, well, I even have a sneaking liking for Turlough, the conniving, untrustworthy little @%&$#?!!£ Sarah Jane is a really good character, but for some reason doesn't spring to the front when I'm listing favourites (we're talking about subjective preference stuff here rather than outright like/dislike - I like 'em all, even Adric!). ;D Has it been decided yet whether the Brig, Benton and Yatesy are companions or not, because they'd get on my list somewhere if they were?

I like Season 3 Martha. Season 4 Martha was more like "hey it's Martha! ... .... ... Ok now, you go stand over there and get kidnapped"

Ok now, you go stand over there and get kidnapped" Yes, when they brought her back, in Who and in Torchwood (yep, I still watch it sometimes despite being in denial about it, it is my secret shame), they really didn't give her much to do; a terrible waste really. One of the problems with having this big supporting cast and constantly bringing them back, and back again.

Yes that's why it's so sad when a good companion leaves because bringing them back doesn't always work that well

There is an exception to that though, she was pretty cool in the Doctor's Daughter, I love the Hath

It's possible they were trying to recreate the "Martha and Martha alone" from Last of the Time Lords
