City of Death is all kinds of Awesome. Break-dancing chickens, indeliable felt-tip pens, very clueless spouses, aliens in white polyester and Paris...really, what's not to love in all that?

I am so very afraid for all of you... Thank you for your concern - I think we may need it! ;D At least you didn't say you were afraid of all of us... But yes, anyone who has not seen City of Death, it is great, on many, many different levels. There are probably some people out there who don't like it - I kind of pity those people. ;D Oh, have some more City of Death picspam: Dr Kerensky fatally discovers which came first - the chicken or the egg?

Considering that we were typing that phrase into a chat box as we watched the episode, it really sticks in my head as singing when I watch scenes from CoD.

It is possibly the best bit of incidental music in Who (not that I'm biased or anything), because even though it has no words, it is nevertheless immediately apparent to anybody what the words SHOULD be. I wouldn't be surprised if Dudley Simpson had been singing that to himself as he wrote it. ;D

*finally finds other fic-inducing thread*
*is SHOCKED at Primsong's attempts to corrupt JJPOR from the straight and narrow path of Four/Romana*
*but feels in the end that the fic justified the means*
Personally, I'm for little boats rather than big ships any day. But there, anyone who has read my random Leela AUs will already know this.

Heh. I'm seeing so much Four/Romana round right now (in fact, just Doctor/Romana), I think, in natural Classic Who offensive action against the Doctor/Rose thing that it's beginning to become a Big (Smug) Ship. *contemplates icebergs* ;D
Seriously, Ian/Barbara is obviously always an exception, Ben/Polly even moreso at the moment with me. (Do they just get cuter each time you see them or am I turning into a puddle of goo in my old age?). Heh. But the random is always rather fun for a change.

Oh, yeah, I agree with that assessment, even as a fairly rabid Doctor/Romana shipper myself. It's like Doctor/Rose was this enormous slab-sided battleship steaming across the oceans spewing clouds of black smoke, with her big sixteen-inch cannons o' death, constantly scanning the horizon for poor, defenceless little merchant steamers like Doctor/Martha or Doctor/Anyone for that matter and raining leaden doom upon them when she did spot them.
Now, the good ship Doctor/Romana had been around for a while; a technical marvel when she came out, maybe showing her age a bit, but there were those who still had faith in her. So, they whipped her into drydock, gave her a bit of a refit and sent her out to do battle on the high seas. Mind you, Doctor/Rose, while obviously, like, evil and everything, is very well-built; I think they tendered it out to the same firm that did the Death Star. Doesn't matter how many times you hit her, she keeps floating, and shooting back.
The thing about big battleships with enormous guns and feet of armour plate, is that while those huddled on the inside feel quite safe and secure, and indeed smug, those not on the inside soon start to get a bit sick of all of those dirty great shells whizzing overhead and blowing stuff up.
So, yeah, point very well taken; I like the Doctor/Romana stuff, but I don't kid myself that it's to everyone's taste or the only Right and Proper Way to interpret Who. It amuses me, though. It amuses me very much indeed. ;D
And as for Ian/Barbara and Ben/Polly, or indeed my own little thing for Jamie/Victoria - God bless 'em and all who sail in 'em!

Not, of course, that I mean to have a dig at Doctor/Romana, because if you were going to have a logical OTP for the Doctor, well... I just prefer illogic by and large. People who can make unexpected little boats float make me smile. Except if they're graphic and scary and then I just run very fast. (I do like Doctor/Romana. I've just being watching warily the size of the ship grow worryingly.) And Jamie/Victoria, well, of course. I don't know what all this Doctor/Jamie stuff is. I mean, the male companion puts on a skirt kilt and suddenly there's slash fic everywhere. And Victoria's probably hiding in the wardrobe, poor girl.

But JJ, it a very Right and Proper Way. ;D Oh, indeed it is, and one close to my heart, but not the Only Right and Proper Way, I think I'm saying. Live and let live, as they say. ;D Erm, what did you say? Er...something about...battleships...? I know what you mean about avoiding the obvious, though, and the joys to be found in eccentric little rowing boats rather than mighty leviathans of the ocean. Definitely. But I do love my Doctor/Romana... I don't subscribe to Two/Jamie myself, but I can see why some people do; they do seem awfully fond of each other. I'm sure Victoria would remain blithely unaware of the whole thing if they were!

Live and let live, as they say. ;D Oh, I don't think there's is such a thing as the Only Right and Proper Way. I've sometimes wondered what would've happened if they brought Romana back and the ship grew to the size of Doctor/Rose. Part of me gets a shiptastic kick out of it, but I'd also be afraid of the possible level of wank. Except I wouldn't care because I'd stay away from all that and just enjoy my OTP, like I already doI don't subscribe to Two/Jamie myself, but I can see why some people do; they do seem awfully fond of each other. I'm sure Victoria would remain blithely unaware of the whole thing if they were! I kind of ship it, sometimes, but part of me finds it a bit off because of how young Jamie is (is he supposed to be a teen or in his twenties?). Yes, I know, you can't really use human standars of age difference with Time Lords, but I'm actually somewhat put off by the idea of the Doctor having it off with teenagers. Either way, other than the obvious exception, I tend to veer more towards Companion/Companion than Doctor/Companion.

But I do love my Doctor/Romana... Aw, would never interfere with your Doctor/Romana. And I very much like anything involving Romana I because she gets overshadowed by her sucessor and lovely as Romana II is, Romana I is just fantastic. I saw bits of the Key to Time years before I managed to see any of the other Romana, so she's my default (and she was not in it long enough). Maybe when I finally get to see a lot more of S17 and 18 (big gaps lie here for me), I'll change my mind. ;D

I'm also a sort of Jamie shipper, I think I've said, but mostly I prefer the lolboat version of that ship to the serious OTPkayak.
(I say kayak, I wanted to say frigate but couldn't remember how to spell it... erm...)
Anyways, as far as serious shipping with that pairing, if it happened it happened during season 6B (if you subscribe to 6B), or in some kind of alternative universe. Actually... there is this one AU, it's like 60,000 words and the AU Two is frightening dark but, very well played.
