So, amazing as it may be *gasp* considering that I grew up right through the middle of the Buffy hey-day, I just saw my first episode of the show today. Well, first 12 episodes really. The season 1 boxset was just there and I had nothing better to do... and I wasn't watching it alone either...
anyway, I quickly made the HEY! that Giles guy is the bad guy from that episode with K-9! connection. And then I also quickly realised why people keep petitioning for Anthony Stewart Head to be the next Doctor. OMG YES YES YES! I SEE THE LIGHT!
Also, the constant Master references had me lol-ing to no end, even if it wasn't the same Master. Though I swear that at one point he sounded *exactly* like Ainley.
Oh... and at one point my room mate and I started talking about how Buffy rode a Dalek through a plothole when she randomly got from one place to another very quickly and without a car.

hee hee hee, I quite liked Buffy, though it has been ages since I have seen it and I cannot remember well what episode goes with which season and such. Ooh, and Clocket, do the retirees of the board a favor and stop talking about the pop culture of your childhood. Lol, just kidding. I don't mind being older, I think it's fun to joke about.

Sorry, child of the 90s. The last generation which remembers life before the internet. speaking of which, I was very happy with how no one in this show had a cellphone (well, in the first season anyway). As someone who detests cellphones with a great and powerful detestiness this makes me happy inside.

Buffy was something that had its moments, but also sort of annoyed me at the same time, if you see what I mean. Spike and Drusilla and Evil Angel were sort of the highlight for me, when they were teamed up in some sort of axis of evil, and then the Evil Mayor - he was pretty good. And then I sort of stopped watching after that, although reruns have alerted me to the fact that Mal from Firefly played some sort of evil preacher in one of the later seasons, so I may have to check that out.
I remember the days when we used to point at and mock people who talked in public on their mobiles - seems like only yesterday... How things have changed... Gah, I feel old... ;D

hahaha! I love Dru!!! If I were a vampire I wanna be Dru! Evil Angel was great plot-wise but really bad name-wise. Though I wasn't fond of Jenny Calendar either. *insert random gypsy*
The preacher (adam I think I can't remember, told ya it'd been awhile) was pretty good, I rather like whole last season. And I don't care what anyone says I LOVE the musical. It's great.
Feeling old happens around Clocket, JJ, I think she does it on purpose. *winks*

I have no clue which characters you're all talking about - I've only seen the first season, though I do know who Spike is (from the wee little puppet man episode on Angel... that being the closest I'd come to seeing Buffy prior to yesterday). I hope to see more seasons in the future though. Apparently my room mate's friend is going to be lending us the boxsets season by season. (yay!) Feeling old happens around Clocket, JJ, I think she does it on purpose. *winks* oi! well... maybe a little bit. Thing is, my Mum had kids really late on (shhh, don't tell her I said that, she like to keep her age a secret), so, technically speaking, I think I might be in the same generation as you older guys. At least, my cousins and brother are all the same age (or older). I'm just the baby of the family.

Interestingly (or not), the guy who plays Spike was in the first episode of season two of Torchwood (the one that conned people into thinking that season two might be quite good, but then along came episode two, then episode three, etc...). He was pretty funny, actually, playing some amoral Time Agent acquaintance of Jack's. Turns out all Time Agents are Captains, and they all have the initials J.H...

The guy who plays Spike and plays the cool guy in Torchwood has the same birthday as me. So many famous people have August 20 for my birthday.
JJpor, J.H comes back later in the series. The last two or three. He kidnaps Jacks brother and is all like "I want you to pay attention to me, but you ignor me, so I kidnap your brother! Come play games with me and I let him go!"
He did make you think that season two was going to be real good.
"Marsters will also portray the character "Lord Piccolo" in the live-action film adaptation of the popular Dragon Ball manga and anime"
Oh snap no.

He did make you think that season two was going to be real good. I dunno, I only saw a much abbreviated verison of that first episode and didn't really like it much. I recently found the 3rd episode (I think? The one with the WW1 soldier?) on youtube (alas, it was taken down just as I finished watching) and liked it plenty. Probably because it wasn't just a bad excuse for porniness. I dunno... sometimes TW surprises me, other times it just gives me exactly what I was expecting: a headache, and a desperate need for brainbleach. haha, my room mate was totally getting excited about this.

Buffy the vampire slayer? Oh my, haven't seen that in a while. The only time I watched it was when my mom was watching it, and I was, I don't know, maybe three? Four? Possibly, Five? I can't remember it, but my parents liked it. I must watch again sometime.

"Marsters will also portray the character "Lord Piccolo" in the live-action film adaptation of the popular Dragon Ball manga and anime" Yes, I've often thought that if there's one thing the world needs... No, not really. Anime is not one of my preferred geekiness outlets, but I did like Akira, and something called Wings of Honneamise, which is possibly the coolest cartoon I've ever seen (years and years ago, and I may be making it cooler in my imagination than it in fact was). Clocket, I can see why you might not have been taken with the episode in question, because at the end of the day it was pretty empty stuff (well, it is Torchwood)- but what can I say? I'm a sucker for charismatic guest-star baddies. ;D I'd sort of forgotten about that WW1 episode, possibly due to excessive BrainBleach abuse, but yes, it was quite good. The actor playing the out-of-time soldier really sold it. And the two stiff-upper-lipped 1918-era Torchwood agents were just brilliant, despite being onscreen for about a minute. [posh voice]"I'm Gerald and this is Harriet; we're Torchwood."[/posh voice] Give them their own series! Talk of Buffy really takes me back, though; it's the kind of thing we used to watch on TV during my student days, along with Babylon 5 and endless reruns of Star Trek:The Next Generation. Can it really be, like, ten years ago??

I don't like star trek, but they do bring in the memories.

I've now seen season two, my conclusions:
I love Spike and Dru and their adorable dysfunction.
Xander and Cordelia's dysfunction is also very fun.
As is Willow and Oz, though they don't really have dysfunction other than him being a werewolf (spoilers for anyone who feels like randomly watching this show who doesn't know)
In fact, I think I like all of the couples, except for Angel and Buffy which just confuses and annoys me. I've come to the conclusion that I very much dislike Angel, and I very much more dislike his alter-ego.
This may be because I've fallen in love with Giles and Angel wasn't very nice to him this season (putting it lightly). Anyway, I now await season 3. It's something to do while waiting for the next DW special... which airs... when, exactly?

I also got into BtVS fairly recently, about a year ago. I spent a lot that time trying to hurry up and be finished with it, but I do miss it now. Especially the part that you're up to. I really like Season 2 but Season 3 is even better.
I didn't really like Angel that much either, but he got much more interesting on his own show. Giles is totally my favorite, though. Buffy/Angel is a little too much Epic Doomed Romance of the Ages for my taste, but I preferred it to any of her other relationships. Willow/Oz is adorableness, however.

Yeah, Giles is The Man - I liked him in NuWho as well, in School Reunion. I'd like to see him play the Master, actually - just sort him out with a black goatee, he'd be perfect. I'm surprised he hasn't actually had any supporters saying he should be Eleven; he probably has, somewhere or other.
Yeah, I'd reiterate my admiration for Spike and Dru - creepy and funny and sort of loveable despite being well, completely evil and loving it. And Dru's weird "English" accent always amused me too. ;D To be honest I kind of preferred Evil!Angel to the normal version, because that fella could brood and angst even more than Ten - at least the evil one just got on with things. Er...
As I've said above, I can't really comment on anything after about Season Three of Buffy, because they kind of lost me at about the time Buffy and co went to university, and it was slightly annoying when _every_ member of the gang had to have some sort of special power etc. Oz was good, though; Seth Green is one of those effortlessly funny sort of actors. Is Season Three the one with the Mayor? If so, it's kind of good; well worth your time, anyway.

I'm surprised he hasn't actually had any supporters saying he should be Eleven; he probably has, somewhere or other. Oh, he has. I know I've run across them now and again. In fact (see my first post in thread) I joined them after seeing the first season. Alas, all of these things were sorted out soon afterwords and now any proposed Eleven other than the given is even more wishful thinking than it would have been previously. I can still dream. (my #1 choice is still Richard E. Grant though, as I maintain that he has more experience playing the Doctor than any other man living who has never been the Doctor... and he's been 9 & 10 already demit! They should've let him be 11 for keeps) And Dru's weird "English" accent always amused me too. ;D YES!! I'm not crazy! Deranged, but not nuts. I honestly couldn't for the life of me figure out what Dru's accent was supposed to be. I kept wavering between Cockney and Southern Bell. Also, I've got to say, my brief quest for some Buffy fanfic has left me very grateful to be in a fandom with a centralized archive website. Long live the Teaspoon!

I kept wavering between Cockney and Southern Bell. It's that strange "posh cockney" accent that American actresses seem to do - it wavers from being one thing to another, and I am more or less certain that nobody actually talks like that in real life. ;D Having said that, I think Dru's a really interesting, well-played character; I like it when she goes off on one of her psychic/psychotic episodes. Speaking of accents, I always thought that Spike and that weedy junior-watcher character who showed up a bit later and was later in Angel, were both really good; sure, every so often, they'd say a word or something and it'd just be...wrong, and you'd know they weren't really English, but most of the time they were pretty solid. Oh, and I seem to remember that Spike once claimed to support Manchester United football club - evidence, if any was needed, that he was a blackhearted villain.
