first things first *squees* alright the wide-eyed little girl inside has sat down, now I'll be critical, in white, of course. **wow, it has been waaaay too long a wait, I only realised how long having seen the trailer. I miss DW!!!! Moving on.
That flying stampede of strange land/sea critters is just creepy, scary as poo, really. as our dear Clocket is wont to say "Win!"
There may have been a reason other than sand that caused Dominatrix-debbie (the companion) to know it was an alien world, yes, I'm sorry it's been too long. I'll post again (less squeefully and more reasonably I hope) after the dust (no pun intended) settles.
Parting thought, he promised to get them home, shades of VoTD anyone? Are we worried now, about a massive blood bath/special effects monstrosity that forgets silly bits like a plot and character development?**

Well, at long last! Thanks Clocket, have some karma on me! And we have a date: Easter Sunday, April 12. Excellent!
Thoughts:
*Merry, I'm more worried that that "I promise" business will be the excuse for renewed Ten!angst when one or more of the bus passengers get chomped by the flying rays; "I promised her she'd get home..." etc. No, RTD; NO!!!
Actually, that aside, this is looking better than I feared; although I thought that about the Xmas special too. ;D I can see why the went for Dubai (real world concerns aside for a moment); those wide open spaces combined with the weird lighting really do create a sense of scale and otherworldliness. Especially the lighting. I would echo Clocket's remarks about it being very Pitch Black (which I thought was great, BTW), although hopefully the Doctor's solution to the problem won't involve lots of macho posturing, swearing and stabbing things with big curvy pointy stabby weapons (although that might make a change of pace for him, LOL!)
It looks like the much-anticipated fly-men (hey, I've been anticipating them!) may not even be the main threat - flying stingray things seem much better, actually.
The folks-in-a-bus-in-the-middle-of-nowhere setup actually looks very reminiscent of Midnight, as I think Merry or someone suggested a while ago. I'd actually like a bit of quiet character moments in amid all of the crises rather than wall to wall spectacle!, but we shall see...
Obviously, it's hard to draw any conclusions from a 1 min trailer, but on the basis of that, I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt and still prepared to be proved wrong in my worst suspicions. Let's face it folks, all we really want to see in these last few hours of Ten (including the other specials in that) is Ten at his best, you know like he can be sometimes, without all of the feeling sorry for himself/pining after old companions that marred the Xmas special for me. Oh, and some good stories, compelling baddies, and a suitably epic (but not RTD!spectacular!), tragic (but not angsty!) endgame and regeneration. If they give me that, I'll be happy. ;D*

I think I will pass this one. If it is airing next week or so I may as well wait. *shrugs* Then again I am on a Nine high.

Okay, I have regained some sort of intellectual equilibrium. So, of course, whiteness follows! ** JJ, I did compare it to Midnight before, and as excited as I am to have a new episode, I see very little in this preiview to change that impression. A bunch of strangers, on a bus, with the doctor, in a desert, disaster and fear ensue, only since it is a special they LOVE the Doctor rather than hate him as they do in series.
That aside, I don't care I am super-duper excited!!!! **

Doesn't look that great, but it's such a little teaser that it's hard to tell. I remain optimistic.
*Can anyone tell me what the woman says at 0:37? After saying "they devour" and in answer to "what is it?" I've watched it a few times and yet I can't figure it out.*

** I do believe the Doctor asks "what is it?" and she replies "death".**

Ah, yes, of course it would be. Such a trailerish line.
Also, jjpor, you might have realized this already (or you certainly will realize, you living where you live), but it actually airs Saturday, April 11th.

Confirmation: www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/2009/wk15/unplaced.shtml#unplaced_doctorwhoThanks for that IM; because I too was labouring under the impression that it was on the 12th; I probably would have found out in time, as you say, but could have been embarrassing! ;D I second Merry's reading of the line, and yes it does seem trailerish, although * in the context it probably would have been more accurate to say "it's an enormous swarm of flesheating flying stingray things", although admittedly that wouldn't have been as snappy. That woman also seems to have some uncanny psychic-y powers, which is not always a good thing in Who...*

well, yay! one day of waiting gone!! Does anyone know if there are still four specials? I had heard that there were, but the source sited was the BBC press release page and having been linked there, I see nothing regarding mythic non-existent special.

The Fourth Special seems to have been quietly forgotten about doesn't it? I was sure there were supposed to be four at one point, but now apparently not. I'm a little confused on the matter, actually.

I think that the Christmas Specials were always included into the total... but they didn't tell us that because they wanted to con us into thinking that we'd be getting more than four episodes...
oh, and apparently they're releasing POTD on a single DVD - not in a set with the other 'Specials' grrr....

I never read text right. no, that's okay, I totally didn't get my humour across AT ALL. Reading it back it says something totally different from what I meant and *I* don't even know where the joke was... so, yes.

the day the trailer had been released I had read on a site that following this episode would be the title and brief preview of the next episode, to be aired in the fall, in which the Doctor is plunged into a world of horror. I can't remember who they said was directing. Until reading this I had given up on the mythic nonexistent fourth special (had even thought it was due to cost setbacks from the Dubai bus damage);but now! Goodness it was real again, disregarding they cited their source as the BBC press release page and I saw nothing regarding this illusory episode!!!! *cries* SO my confusion has now redoubled upon itself.

Hmm, I'd like to hear more about this fall special. All I recall hearing is that the next one after this would be the Christmas special. *shrug*
Wasn't there talk of a New Year's special? I think that could be the one where he regenerates.

I too heard that there was going to be a New Year's special, and that it was going to be a two-parter with the Christmas special... and would ring in both a new Doctor as well as a new year.
