I was busy trying to get some work down on my WIPs and Originals last night, and all of them were stubbornly resisting my tender attempts at wrestling them to ground.
Instead this poured out in a fifteen minute frenzy:
Christina? Lady Christina? Fancy meeting you here. On Poosh. How’d you end up on Poosh? I mean, you had the flying bus, but that was hardly space worthy.
I caught a lift.
Really? With who?
Damsel in distress. There’s a whole underground Earth tourist trade you know Doctor, or should know, you being so very well informed. They saw the flying double-decker and thought that I was a member of their fleet. By the time they knew otherwise I was through customs. A whole new world to explore.
Poosh Galactic, right. They don’t use [bus type] replicas though, do they?
New addition. Special tours only. Very posh, very fitting for a lady.
That’s an, [head scratch] interesting, story, but there’s something you aren’t telling me.
And what’s that Doctor?
Well, I’d say, how you ended up in this cell for a start. The Pooshonians are a lot of things, but xenophobic isn’t one of them. They don’t tend to lock up illegal immigrants. All said and done you should be enjoying a cultural integration program right now, picking up your meal tickets, and moving into temporary housing, not languishing in a dungeon.
I’d hardly call this languishing Doctor, or a dungeon. We are above ground.
Well, relative. Up, down, cell, dungeon, what have you. Still, you shouldn’t be here, unless.
Unless what?
Christina, last time I met you, you were getting up to some rather illicit activities, being chased by the police. They were ready to throw away the key, and maybe not unjustifiably…
Just what are you implying Doctor.
I think you –
Because it would be rather presumptuous, pot and kettle, wouldn’t you say, for a fellow prisoner to accuse their cellmate of committing a crime.
Yes, well, depends on the crime. Depends on the reason.
And you want to know what my crime was Doctor?
Oh, well, no, I can guess your crime. Actually, I was wondering if you had a hairpin on you?
To pick the locks? Doctor, really, you don’t think I’d have tried that already?
Yes? No? Maybe?
Give me some credit. [she hands it over anyway]
Yes, but, electronic lock, alien biomarkers. I’ve no doubt you’re an excellent lock pick Lady Christina, but this, I think, would be a bit beyond you. [explodes in his face]
And a bit beyond you too apparently.
[continued poking] So it would seem, but if I just… here… and oh, but that’s not fair is it? Christina, tell me that’s not fair. [coloured light inside lock starts flashing]
That’s not fair Doctor.
Very good, I like it when people agree with me. [looks towards camera] See, she agrees with me: not fair.
Just who are you talking to Doctor?
Oh Christina, I’m disappointed. I thought you were smarter than that, more observant. See, right there, high up on that wall.
I see tasteless cement, a cobweb, and a nasty little spider which I am planning on killing with my shoe when it comes within reach.
Kill it? Ah, Christina, that’s so violent, or would be, it that were a real spider. See, thing is, Poosh doesn’t have spiders, they have bitty little creepy-crawlies which fill a similar niche – most planets do – but spiders? Nah. Any that do get back via the tourist trade are brushed off in customs. Poosh is surprisingly good at keeping the invasive species out.
So, if that’s not a spider then what is –
It’s a camera. A tiny itsy-bitsy little mobile recognisance device, and it’s watching us. Or, more specifically, it’s watching me.
Oh right, I forgot how high and mighty and egotistic you were Mr. Actually, I’m a Lord of Time.
Christina, shut up [pulls out sonic, starts scanning]
Hey! If you had that thing then why were you bothering with my hair pin?
Deadlock seal, genetic markers. It wouldn’t have responded to sonic technology, but sometimes a bit of picking and fiddling in the right direction will loosen things up a bit. Manuel over-ride right? Anyway, I didn’t want to give away all of my tricks too early in the game.
So, any thoughts? I've not a clue why the Doctor is on Poosh or how he ended up in jail (though, I'd thought it would be funny if he was in for stealing and Christina was in for something completely different). Ah muse, how you torment me some days with random plot poodles and deranged, rampaging bunnies...
