So I've this image in my head of a much older (read ready to die i think) Doctor walking someone through his TARDIS and discussing past companions (the TARDIS holds their rooms if she likes them) However, I don't want this to be boring rehash of companions and as the Doctor is already fabricated I hate to use a author made companion as well, afraid I'd alienate the audience. any ideas?
also...gathering some courage here, I have been playing with the idea of a dark doctor story but don't care to use scaryhand!doc nor the valeyard so it may still be a bit before that one takes shape, but still lend me your courage!

You can do a rehash of the companions, just make up your own stories instead on meantioning TV, Audio, or Book stories that have been done.

Yeah, like Newton said; maybe he's recounting little incidents with the companions that never made it onscreen; little between-adventures anecdotes.
I've just had an idea; I will PM you with it, Merry, because it's kind of a plotty, ending-ruining sort of thing...

Actually I don't think you've told us enough for us to have useful comments yet. As for anything you feel fans wouldn't accept, if it feels right enough to you, no doubt it feels right for actual reasons even if they're not quite clear to you yet... and that rightness will make the story worth writing.

The dark!Doctor you use doesn't have to be the Valeyard himself, but he can be inspired by him in some way, since the Valeyard is, after all, derived from the darker aspects of a future incarnation.

Well, I've read it now, and it did not disappoint! Very nicely done indeed; I don't think I can say anything more without giving too much away, but very nicely done! ;D
