Okay, this is my first attempt at writing a crossover fic. I have a second idea that will be longer, but decided to try this shorter idea first. It takes place somewhere during the "Key to Time" season. This is my first attempt at writing Four and Romana also, so please provide feedback and suggestions.
Time Lords of Unusual Size
“Where have we landed Doctor?” asked Romana.
“I’m not sure, but it certainly looks peaceful. I imagine there may be a good spot nearby to do some fishing,” said the Doctor. He wrapped his scarf around his neck and went to the boot cupboard to get his fishing gear.
“Oh really, fishing? I don’t understand why you like to do that. It’s not like we need them for food. Besides, we need to get on with finding the next segment.”
“It’s for the sport of it Romana! As for finding the next segment, we’ll search with so much more vigor after a bit of rest. All work and no play make very dull Time Lords.”
“Where is the sport in trying to trick primitive aquatic life forms into biting a steel hook? If they could bait you into grabbing something that would allow them to pull you into the water, then that might be a sport worth watching.”
“Well, if I hook one large enough I could get pulled into the water,” the Doctor said with a grin. “Maybe you’ll get lucky. Come on, daylight is wasting. K-9 you’d better stay here. It looks a bit swampy out there.”
“Affirmative, Master.”
The Doctor and Romana walked out of the TARDIS and took a few steps before they stopped abruptly, due to the large sword that a tall blond man was pointing at the Doctor’s nose. There was a pretty blonde lady standing behind him. The man was dressed in black, and the lady in red.
“Who are you, and what are you doing here?” asked the swordsman.
“I’m the Doctor, and this is my friend Romana. I’m terribly sorry if we are trespassing, we mean no harm,” said the Doctor. “We were hoping to do a little fishing. Are you the owner of this property?”
“No one lives in the Fire Swamp, nor owns it,” said the man in black as he lowered his sword. “We are merely passing through ourselves. I should warn you, there are many hazards here. You might want to find a safer place to fish.”
The Doctor and the man in black stepped aside, and he told the Doctor about fire spurts and lightening sands and how to recognize each. As they were engrossed in conversation, Romana stepped over to the blonde in red and said, “My name is Romana. What’s yours?”
“I’m Princess Buttercup,” said the blonde.
Romana’s eyebrows lifted and she asked incredulously, “You’re name is Princess Buttercup? Well . . . uh, that’s a lovely dress you’re wearing your Highness. It’s a shame that it was damaged.”
“They don’t call it the Fire Swamp for nothing,” said Buttercup. “Frankly right now the sand in my undergarments is bothering me more than a burnt dress. Are you and the Doctor from Guilder? Do you live in the swamp?”
At this point Romana’s eyebrows had practically merged with her hairline. “No, we’re not from around here. We’re Time Lords.”
The Doctor walked over to Romana and Buttercup and said, “Romana, Roberts here has convinced me that this isn’t a good spot for fishing. He did suggest a lovely stream that we can try. Shall we?”
“It was nice to meet you Roberts, your Highness,” said Romana. She and the Doctor walked back to the TARDIS as Roberts and Buttercup turned away and resumed their trek across the swamp.
“Doctor, that woman’s name was Buttercup, and she claimed to be a princess. If you ask me, she was a bit thick.”
“Really? Roberts said he was a pirate. The Princess and the Pirate . . . it sounds like a fairy tale.” The Doctor set the coordinates and put the TARDIS into the vortex.
“Westley, that woman said that they were Time Lords,” said Buttercup. “And we did hear that strange noise right before we saw their blue box. They say that a loud grinding sound is a sign that a Time Lord is around. Did you know that Time Lords live in the Fire Swamp?”
As a grinding noise and a sudden wind swept through the trees Westley said, “Time Lords Buttercup? I don’t believe they exist.”
