Hello, everyone. I discovered this site via ClocketPatch's Teaspoon profile. She left a review on my fic The Heart of the TARDIS (that was totally not a plug >>) so I decided to check it out. I loved her work, so I clicked on this link and thought you seemed like a fun bunch. I'm not a big forum person. I've been a moderator of a completely unrelated forum for years now, but I haven't been active in any other forums since I joined that one. I think I could feel comfortable here, though. So I'm a college student in New York City studying evolutionary biology. I've been a huge sci fi nerd since middle school, but I've only been a Doctor Who fan for about a year. My Anglophile friend got me into it. The first episode I ever saw was "The Idiot's Lantern" and to be honest, I didn't care for it. (In hindsight, S2 of NuWho is my least favorite.) But I decided to give it another chance, and I'm glad I did. Now I"m wholeheartedly obsessed, introduced more of my friends to it, and am now beginning to delve into Classic Who, of which I've only seen "The Five Doctors" and "The Creature From the Pit." I've been reading DW fanfic for about 6 months, and only just started getting into writing it. I love really convoluted, timey-wimey mysteries that explore ideas in the literary medium that can't really be shown on screen. I'm not much of a shipper, but I'll make exceptions for well-written works. Quality trumps all, eh? I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Ah, another newbie! You'll have to excuse me, I get a little excited when that happens. But welcome! Clocket seems to have Cyberman-esque powers of recruiting. It's a little scary. She could maybe take over the world or something.
Anyway, ooh, evolutionary biology, that sounds cool. I happen to live just north of the city and go down quite often.
We have quite a few members who got into the classic series via the new (myself included) and further still who are just now discovering the former, so you should be in good company.

Oh, are you from Westchester County? I know tons of people there. We probably secretly know each other. Well, feel free to PM me if you want to find out.

Yup, I am. Fairly certain I don't know you, though, but now I'm going to be all suspicious and stuff when encountering people off the internet probably, haha. We need a secret Whovian signal or coded phrase for these sorts of occasions.

Eh, no coded phrase necessary. I just start rambling on about sci-fi, or I wear my Doctor Who T-shirt, and people either know what I'm talking about or they don't. Now that I'm at college, I find increasingly that they do. One time in the middle of rehearsal for Julius Caesar, someone in the cast said, apropos of nothing, "We should run out and pretend to be the Doctor and a companion visiting Ancient Rome in the TARDIS!" I wanted to melt from joy that I'm surrounded by people like that.

Welcome Poetry! Clocket recruits another one. Do you post on Teaspoon by the same name? If so I have read a few of your stories, and I enjoyed them. We're all slightly mad here, but this wouldn't be a very interesting forum if we weren't. Like you I am from the US, and started watching with New Who, but I'm catching up on classic Who. This group is always great about recommending good stories, and helping you find them online as needed. We have a good diversity of opinion, but the debate never gets nasty. Look around, and kick the tires. I hope to see you in the chat box some day.

Hi poetry. I've never said hi to poetry before. Well I never. I'm on Teaspoon too. I wish I could post more or read other people's fanfic more, but an eye problem makes me keep things short, so if I seem abrupt sometimes, that's why. Sometimes I just have to stop focusing. I'm an old guard fan, I was in fandom in the 80s and 90s.

I am Newton. I am not really a forum person either and look at me, I have been here for a year and three months!
I like Doctor Who but I don't think I am that into the show as everyone else. I get annoyed when people take the show too seriously. Yet I have taken things very seriously that is not DW related. So maybe I shouldn't get annoyed.... yet it's a tv show! Enjoy it and stop picking on the negatives! Sorry I am in bit of in an "I am annoyed" mood. That will change very soon.
I am in Canada not too far from Ohio and New York state, which a few people seem to be from. I am always chatting about Amsterdam.
I run DW Live, where we watch DW and chat. Every Saturday at 9:00pm EST. Though the site we wonder to to watch is down at the moment ... or it hates me. I am going with option B.
Feel free to look around, and post, post, post! We love posts! Even if it about your cat pooping! We'll read it! or I will.

Library Lover: Yes, I go by the same name, and I recall you stopping by my fics. It's great to see you! I love this feeling of community building.
Magnus Greel: I certainly don't mind that you need to limit yourself to shorter posts. Brevity is the soul of wit, is it not? If you have a limited space and time in which to express yourself, why then you'll distill your meaning in the phrases you use.
Newton: That sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to participate.

Greetings Poetry. I see that I've got another one to follow my Piep-Pipper link to this little corner of the intrawebs. I do hope you enjoy your time here. (cue maniacal laughter)
Like Newton I'm from Canada, actually, we live in neighbouring cities though we haven't met in person. I'm currently entering my last year of uni (and I'm pants-wettingly terrified about that I'll tell you). I'm studying anthropology with an emphasis in archaeology, so if you ever want to get into a discussion about hominids, projectile points, or the neolithic revolution I'm open. I love this forum because it's held together by interesting people from interesting places all being terribly nice and helpful to each other.
In your fic Cheminée the Frost poem I was reminded of was 'Dust of Snow.' It goes:
The way a crow Shook down on me The dust of snow From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart A change of mood And saved some part Of a day I had rued.
It's one of my all-time favourite poems (Stopping by Woods is very good also and I did think of it as well, though it didn't spring into my mind with the same clarity).

Hello there Poetry, greetings and welcome to the boards! I'd say something about you don't need to be mad to post here but it helps, but that'd make me sound like one of those bosses who tries to be all cool and fun and one of the kids but always gets laughed at behind his back. Er... ;D
ANYWAY...I'm from Liverpool in the UK, I've been into Doctor Who since I was but a wee nipper in the long ago 80s, and I too originally came here (I think the phrase is "was ensnared") via Clocket's Teaspoon account. There are quite a lot of us who ended up here in this way; she is DbyA's recruiter-in-chief.
I'm with you on Season 2 of NuWho; by far the weakest overall, in my opinion (I don't think 3 or 4 were necessarily as good as 1, but by golly they had their moments). I couldn't honestly claim that they were two of the greatest oldWho stories ever made, but I love both the Five Doctors and Creature from the Pit. I think the latter is unfairly much-bashed in fandom. Okay, I can see how that bit with the Teach Yourself Mountaineering and Teach Yourself Tibetan books would enrage a lot of fans, but I laughed. I'm shallow, I guess, or easily pleased. ;D
Anyway, I'm sure you'll fit right in here and I'm sure everyone will make you feel at home in no time. They are an extremely friendly bunch indeed.

Lookie, Clocket pulled a clocket again! ;-)
Many welcomes, glad to have you aboard, join the party, etc. Poetry *salute* - I'll have to see what you have going over at Teaspoon. Very pleased to have you among us, and to hear you're giving Classic a good run, you won't regret it. This is an exceedingly pleasant bunch and it sounds like you'd fit right in, that's a fact. *nod nod*
Looking forward to getting to know you. :-)

Unfortunately the kinds of things I tend to want to say generally require far more words than my eyes will allow me to type out.

Hello newcomer!!! Okay: me in a nutshell. My name is Aldebaran, after the star, my friends call me "Aldy", as may you. I was a four fan, and was rumored to be related to Tom Baker for awhile. I have an infinitesimal sense of humor and a lager-than-life personality. I lost my die-hard whovianisim in December of 2008, and left the site for awhile, but always stayed teathered to it because the people here are so incredibly AWESOME. As a result, I'm never far. I'm usually lurking in the shadows or something. You may not see me much anymore, but feel free to drop me a message or something. I'll reply eventually. Welcome. Enjoy your stay. I sure did.
