To introduce myself, I'm also from the north of England, from Liverpool in my case. Ah. The WRONG side of the Pennines Never mind. I'm just about to turn 31, which is a constant source of astonishment to me, as I remember being only 20, like, yesterday. ;D I started watching Who as a child in the 80s; Davison, Baker, C, McCoy; I don't think I became what you'd call a fan until McCoy, though. I was hooked, and I suppose for me he'll always be *the* Doctor... I have to say that 7 is now one of my favourites. Before the new series I found that Remembrance was one of the Classic stories that you could actually show to non-fans without ridicule, and even now I think the 7/Ace stories have more in common with the new series in terms of pace and depth than they do with previous Doctors. ...the New Adventures novels shaped my view of the show, as I guess they must have done for a lot of people at that time. Oh yes. I collected virtually all of the NAs at the time - anything by Paul Cornell was magical - once I ran out of videos to buy. Looking back on them now though, there was an awful lot of dross there. I sold off about half of them on e-bay, and I can't imagine re-reading many of the ones I still own. Anyway, enough about me - welcome again and I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. Many thanks

It is amazing how many people seem to come here via Clocket's Teaspoon account Trust, it amazes no one half so much as me. To introduce myself, I'm also from the north of England, from Liverpool in my case. I'm just about to turn 31, which is a constant source of astonishment to me, as I remember being only 20, like, yesterday. ;D Bahahaha, I'm incredibly amused at the moment because it would appear that I correctly guesstimated your age. Not that it was too hard what with all of the random hints you would drop (and you may have even said the number at some point). Still, I am amused. I'm even more amused because my browser's spellcheck just corrected my spelling of guesstimate, which I wasn't aware was an actual word. ;D ;D

I knew that, Clocket, JJ is just a few months younger than I am. Actually, his b-day is also my cousin and her hubby's bday, and I believe it is tuesday, the fifth at any rate. *nods* I've a memory for odd details, funny as I can misplace something in my hand but can remember dialogue and such word for word.

Hi Rutan! I'm Lynda, and I was introduced to Doctor Who by Nine, then went back and got into the Classic series. I hope you enjoy it here; it's such a nice cozy little forum, and we manage to have a variety of opinions without murdering each other which is more than most internet forums can say.

I think some of the NAs still stand up; I don't have that many of them to hand any more either. You're right; some of them were not so good, either, but for a while there they were the only new Doctor Who to be had. I was never as fond of the Eighth Doctor novels from the BBC; I think maybe I just liked Seven better.
And yes, you can definitely see a lot of the roots of the new series in the Doctor Who of that era. As you say, Seven and Ace were in some ways a prototype for Nine and Rose (only better, I'd claim, McCoy partisan that I am!), and I think there are certain plot elements from the NAs and EDAs that definitely inspired things in the new series, even if RTD and co effectively decided to ignore the continuity of the novels entirely (which was their decision to take). Remembrance is one of my favourite Who stories of them all, partly because I very vividly remember seeing it on TV when it first aired.
Glad to be a source of amusement to you Clocket! ;D Good to see someone at least pays attention to my crazed rantings on here... And I was about to be concerned and suspicious that Merry somehow knew when my birthday was, until I remembered that it says it right there on my user profile!

lol, nope that was me in your bushes last night, JJ, I'm two continent stalker. Actually, i remember finding out we were about the same age, and then one day i was at your profile to pm you (it's the only way I know to pm outside of hitting reply) and I noticed your bday was my cousin and her husband's b-day which is rather hard to forget as I now know four people with whom you share your bday.
Rutan, please don't fear our off-topic rambling, we're like a giant family and tend to put the fun in dysfunctional.
