"Is he the one in charge, then?" asked Jamie, considering Eight quizzically. He shifted the weight of the meteorite.
"No, no, of course not," Two reassured him. "He's just another one of me, I'm not sure which. The Brigadier must be having an off-day. Oh dear. What was that? Something about giant insects? My, we do seem to be having a bit of trouble."
"As if we ever did anythin' else," Jamie grumbled. His arms were beginning to ache. "Look, where do I put this rock?"
"Hm. Probably into that lab in there, don't you think? Come along. Pardon me, excuse me," he said, pushing his way past some UNIT men, a few companions and an apoplectic version of himself who was apparently chastising the Brigadier. They pushed through the doors only to nearly be blocked by a large man in an overly colourful outfit and a scantily clad girl. His hands were full of cakes.
"What's this?" he asked, stepping in front of his smaller self. "Sneaking off, I might have known I would. I was a terrible coward when I was you. Haven't you heard we're under an insectoid attack? It's a good thing that fool of a Captain finally let me out..."
"A coward? Now just a minute!" Two blustered back.
"What's that?" Peri asked Jamie. "It looks like a rock."
"It is a rock."
"I don't understand."
--
"What I don't understand is we have the Master in the boot," Benton called over the wind and engine noise as Bessie shot over the landscape. "Who else would be attacking UNIT just now?"
"That's what I'd like to know," Three replied. "I'm afraid we may have to deal with more than one Master if that meteorite is affecting him as well."
"More than one?" Benton said with disbelief. "That can't be good..."
"Purely conjecture, of course," Three amended, swerving around a delivery truck and a roundabout with a statue in the middle then ripping straight through a park to avoid a traffic backup. Pigeons bounced off the windscreen in an explosion of feathers. "Sorry about that. But it does make sense - who else would target the Brigadier, personally?"

"Maybe we misheard something," Five pointed out, Nyssa thought very sensibly. "Maybe whoever it is is not targeting the Brigadier personally, it seems like we would have run into the Master earlier if there was more than one version of him running around, he isn't very good at staying out of our way for very long.

Harry Sullivan stepped out of the TARDIS, which was strange in the first place since he did not know how he ended up there, and found himself in what seemed like a world gone mad. It looked like UNIT and there seemed to be more than one TARDIS. He spotted the fourth doctor, "That has to be the cause of the problem then" he thought.

"So where've we ended up this time?" Donna asked. She walked into the console room, only to find it empty. "Doctor?" She stepped outside to look for him, muttering under her breath. "'Don't wander off,' he's always telling me..."

The Master grumbled as he was thrown around inside the dark, cramped little boot of the car and cursed yet again that it had proved thus far impossible for him to trigger the latch; all he'd managed so far was to signal the outside world an SOS by means of the tail-lights - not that anyone could see more than "S" before he was out of sight at this speed. Somewhere overhead several small things bounced off the boot with muffled pigeon-squawks.
--
Susan sat down in the open doorway of the TARDIS soaking and rubbing at her swollen ankles while the others tried to decide what to do.
"Grandfather!" she screamed as a ginger-haired woman suddenly came out of one of the other TARDIS' along the quarry ridge. The water in her foot-basin slopped alarmingly. "Grandfather, come quick! There's a strange woman!"
"A woman?" One grumbled as he came. "Well, at least I know it isn't me again, hmph!"

"Ah, Dr Sullivan," said the Brigadier, brightening slightly. "I thought we'd sent you on that course in Geneva... You couldn't have a look at this chap over here could you?" he indicated the Seventh Doctor. "Give him something to calm him down? He looks like he's about to rupture something."
"You have no idea of the forces you have stumbled upon here, Brigadier," said the little man in the hat, more calmly, but with a dark and mysterious expression upon his face. "That meteorite, wherever it came from, is probably no accident. Somebody wanted all of us here, for some purpose...but what...?"

"I repeat, step aside! We need to get this meteorite to that lab in there!" Two demanded, looking up at his larger self.
"I'll take it there," Six said, holding out a commanding hand, palm up.
"No!" Jamie frowned. "The Doctor said for me t' carry it."
"I am the Doctor," Six said impatiently, thinking of all the unfinished cakes and sandwiches he'd left behind down there. "Besides, I already have other business in that lab. Give it here."
"What business?" Two demanded suspiciously. "Don't let him have it, Jamie."
"I'm not!" Jamie said. "Now move aside, y' great fat..."
"Jamie!" interrupted Two. "Not in front of the lady. And that is me you're addressing."
Insulted by the memory of the rest of Jamie's unspoken phrase, Six glowered and grabbed at the rock, only to have the Scot jam it into his stomach then run past into the building. Peri screamed piercingly as Six promptly stumbled over the edge of the steps, windmilled and lost his balance, taking Two down with him in a loud dual-voiced protest.
Her scream went up yet another notch as his airborne frosted cakes deposited themselves in her halter-top.

Harry followed the Brigadier and attempted to do something for the overreacting Doctor as several more doctors starting causing havoc. He looked around for someone who could tell him what was going on but for the most part everyone looked pretty confused.

"Good Lord..." the Brigadier turned around just in time to see what appeared to be the start an unseemly multi-Doctor brawl. "Now, just stop it, you chaps!" he called as he hurried over. "This is a military headquarters; you can't fight here!" When he saw that one of the apparent brawlers was the large man in the multicoloured coat, he shot a poisonous glance towards the unfortunate Mike Yates: "Captain Yates! You had better have a damned good explanation as to why that impostor is out of his cell!"
The Seventh Doctor watched the chaos with a weary sigh and turned to the anxious-looking Harry Sullivan:
"Ah, Harry; long time no see. Now, if you'd just stop trying to medicate me, might I suggest we get away from this circus and do some proper investigating..."

Two pushed his way out from underneath his colourful counterpart indignantly. "Jamie was right, you are a... oh great-aunt's galoshes! He's in that lab with that meteorite alone! If anything happens, I hold myself accountable!" he glowered at Six as they climbed back to their feet.
"It won't hurt him," Six retorted, "It's only affecting us..." He stopped with a pompous frown at the UNIT men who were suddenly taking his arms again. "What's this?"
Two grinned. "It appears the Brigadier has changed his mind about me again. Serves me right, if you ask me." He scuttled up the steps and into the building leaving Six to bluster all over again.
"Why do you keep doing that? You can't arrest him again!" Peri wailed at Mike, smacking his impeccable uniform with a cupcake, her frosting-blotched bosom heaving with emotion. "I don't understaaaand!" --
Bessie roared over a rise and was headed into the home stretch for UNIT when Three abruptly cut off the Super Drive and braked her to a stop near the walls. He turned to his assorted passengers. "Everyone still with us? Good. If there is some kind of attack going on at HQ we won't be helping anyone just stepping into the middle of it, especially not with the Master still in the boot. We need to know what's happening in there. Any volunteers to climb the wall or otherwise take a look?"

"Doctors, Doctors." Eight put his hands up. "I understand we all have our differences and that some of us are more...uh, mentally balanced than others," here he cast a nervous glance at Six, "but if we're expected to work together, we must behave like gentlemen."
--
"Oi, Grandpa," Donna said. "I'm looking for a man, calls himself the Doctor, don't suppose you might have seen him? Tall, dark hair, absurdly skinny, likes to hear the sound of his own voice, probably getting into a load of trouble as we speak." She gestured at the TARDIS. "He would've come from the same blue box I did..." her voice trailed off as she took in the setting. "Not...one of the other identical looking boxes right next...what the hell is going on here? Have you done something with him?"

"If we nip in here," the Seventh Doctor told the still-uncertain-looking Harry, pointing at an abandoned fire door around the side of the building, "we can get back to the lab before any of the others and take a proper look at that rock. Quick, before the attacking insects arrive!"
"Yes, quite right; well said, that man!" The Brigadier nodded approvingly at the Eighth Doctor's wise words. "The rest of you could do worse than to listen to what he has to say." He turned his attention to the struggling Six, currently being dragged back inside by two UNIT soldiers: "Very good; Private Jenkins, Private LeMaitre, take him away!"
"Yes, sir!" Private LeMaitre saluted with his free hand, keeping the other firmly locked on Six's elbow. Had anybody been paying attention, they might have noticed that the soldier's face seemed strangely rubbery. You might even go as far as to say masklike...

"Ach!" Jamie jumped back as the random contraption thing-a-ma-bobber that he'd dropped the black rock into on the workbench promptly shot sparks at him. He sucked on a singed finger as he looked for anything like a towel so he could grab up the now-hot rock again before the Doctor (any of them) came in and got mad about his apparently setting it on fire.
Snatching up one of Six's abandoned pots of tea, he poured it over the thing thus filling the lab with a brief cloud Earl Grey before he could roll it back out. It flipped off the bench and very nearly smashed his toes.
"Jamie!" cried Two as he darted in the doorway. "Are you all right? What was... oh dear dear, it got a current again? I sincerely hope that didn't make even more of me show up. Ten is quite enough, thank you! Oh look, Jamie - sandwiches...!"

Quick, before the attacking insects arrive!" "All right, I'll come along, but could you maybe explain to me what's going on? What's this about flying insects?" --- "Well I'd be happy to go" Five volunteered, "but I'm sure I'm not the only one."

"I'm not really sure where the insects come into it either," admitted Seven as he led Harry down an abandoned corridor towards the lab. "I'm sure Ace can handle things from her end, though..." he frowned to himself and muttered something about explosives. As they arrived at the lab, he gave Harry a disappointed look: "Looks as if somebody beat us to it." He turned to Two and Jamie, raising his hat in greeting and simultaneously helping himself to a sandwich; "Hello, there; I'm not sure whether we were properly introduced earler. I'm the Doctor and this is my friend Harry; now, let's take a proper look at that meteorite before the rest of them show up."

Harry did not join in the sandwiches yet "All right, the flying bugs don't have much to do with the rest of whatever is going on, but what is going on? You didn't explain anything."

"No, you're right; I didn't." For a brief moment, Seven gave Harry a goofy smile; then, his expression of intense concentration returned. "It would seem that this thing," he tapped the still-steaming meteorite with his umbrella, "has somehow managed to gather all of me - that is, all of my past, present and future incarnations - to this one point in space and time, along with just about all of the people who have ever travelled with me. And I don't know about you," he said to the Second Doctor, looking at him over the top of the hot rock, "but I don't think this is entirely accidental..."

"Of course you're the Doctor," Two chastised around a mouthful of sandwich. "And I'm not sure we can establish it wasn't accidental, though the odds are against it." He reached for another little triangle of bread then belatedly offered the tray to Harry with a measuring look. "You're another tall one, but at least you're not me. Between the length and the curls I was a bit worried Jamie's jolting it here had brought me in again."
"He's not? Aye, that's a relief," agreed Jamie. "I'm losin' count!"
Two turned back to Seven. "As you've probably noted, both heat and electricity seem to exacerbate its time-bending qualities. But why only on me? If proximity to a personal timeline is the case, then any Time Lord anywhere near it who has ever been on Earth might be... hm." He scratched at his head, rumpling up his hair. "Have there been any others?"

Harry took one of the sandwiches and was startled at the suggestion that he was a doctor. "Well thank you for explaining" he said to Seven who was now talking to two. He turned to Jamie who seemed slightly less confused than Harry himself and said "Has he left anything important out? There seems to be something else missing besides the giant insects."
|
|
|
Post by jjpor on Mar 6, 2009 20:21:46 GMT
"That's not important right now," said Seven, somewhat dismissively, but then had the good grace to look a little embarrassed: "At least, the evidence seems to suggest that I miscalculated a little with regard to the giant insects..." He turned back to Two: "You may have a point about the other Time Lords; if so, we should probably be on our guard..."
*
The two UNIT soldiers had just finishing locking the angry Sixth Doctor and Peri back in their cell; Private Jenkins turned to his mate:
"I can't wait until I get off duty," he said. "I've going on leave; I've got a weekend pass."
"Leave?" cackled Private LeMaitre, pulling a stubby plastic raygun out of his uniform pocket. "Yes, why not? You can take the rest of your life off!" Private Jenkins didn't even get a chance to scream; all that was left of him was some bubbling paintwork and his shadow burned into the far wall. Private LeMaitre turned to the very surprised-looking Six and Peri, helpless behind the cell bars: "And now, Doctor," he declared, ripping off his latex face to reveal the sneering, black-goateed visage beneath, "now, finally, I shall have my revenge!"

"Doctor, do you think we should let him out now?" Jo asked Three, motioning toward the boot where The Master loudly banged upon the door.
Meanwhile Ace took out a coil of rope with a grappling hook from Bessie. Giving a good throw it flew over the wall and caught on something, she wasn't sure exactly what, and then pulled it tight. The rope came back over and fell to the ground.
--
Mike decided there was more than enough help in the car park and he should go check on the colourful 'Doctor' and his companion. He moved quickly down the hall toward the holding cell and stopped in shock and caution as he saw the figure of an unknown man by the cell. Taking out his gun he prepared to take him down...
--
Four and Sarah ambled around the car park, watching for any signs of Bessie. Finally Sarah got fed up with standing around and sat against Four's TARDIS. He sat down beside her and took off his hat.
"Something must have gone wrong... they should be here by now." Sarah said.
"Oh... you never know. After all, it is me out there." Four gave Sarah one of his grins. His expression changed to confusion as he saw the rope flying over the wall and then being pulled back. "Sarah, did you see that rope flying over the wall?" He asked.
"Better than sitting here. Let's go see what's going on." Sarah stood up and Four followed. AS the reached the wall the rope came flying back over. The grappling hook came flying over a second time and snagged his hat. He quickly grabbed it, his scarf getting in the way and being hooked as well. Soon he found himself being raised up by the rope.
--
"Get it tight." Ace said to the others from the jeep as they all pulled on the rope.
