Let's talk about DVDs coming out this year. Which ones are you interested in? What about the extras? What do you wish would come out? Here's what's confirmed so far, with their Region 2 dates if available: [/url] - January 26th The Rescue/The Romans - February 23rd (Why do I always unconsciously add an "a" to the end of The Romans? : Attack of the Cybermen - March 16th The War GamesThe Keys of MarinusFrontier in Space/Planet of the DaleksDelta & the Bannermen The Deadly Assassin Image of the Fendahl [/ul] I think it's a good bunch of serials. I'm sort of meh-ish about Attack of the Cybermen, but it's good that they're releasing more Six stories. Delta & the Bannermen isn't something I would have picked but I'll see it anyway. Also not particularly a fan of Planet of the Daleks but Frontier in Space is good, and I'll be interested to see the colorization of episode 3. I want the E-Space boxset so badly. A bit sad there's no Tom Baker on any of the extras but there's plenty of Lalla Ward which actually may account for the lack, haha. Ooh, a documentary on her outfits! The War Games and The Deadly Assassin are two of those classic stories that feel like they should be on DVD. So that's good. The Rescue is an odd little story but not bad. The Romans is fun. I like The Keys of Marinus even if it's very flawed. Honestly, though, I don't really look forward to the older releases for their extras and commentary, although it looks like there might be some decent stuff here. Image of the Fendahl has always been largely forgotten in the past, so I'm pleasantly surprised about a DVD release.

Hmmm, Deadly Assassin is the one I'm really ecstatic over (the poet shirt!). It's one of those episodes which I think really should have been released some time ago seeing as how it ranks on so many people's top ten list. It's also an acid trip, well plotted, well acted, important canologically (and the poet's shirt!)
The Frontier in Space/Planet of the Daleks boxset also makes me happy inside (very), and not just because of the colourized episode (though I'm not going to sniff at that, for it does make my heart sing, colour isn't what makes or breaks an episode and I'd be just as happy with it in shakey B&W). I'm happy that they're being released as a set, because if the two stories had been separated by a years' long cliff-hanger, or worse, released in the wrong order, I would have been a very frustrated Threefan indeed. As is, I'm very, very happy.
All they have to do is release Time Monster, Mind of Evil, and Invasion of the Dinosaurs and I'll be able to get all of my favourite Three ep.s on DVD. Yay!
The Rescue is an episode I haven't seen before (actually, it's a pleasant surprise because I'd been under the impression it was burninated), but if I come up with some spare change in the coming years maybe, maybe it might make its way onto my list (this is helped by the fact that it's paired with the Romans, and the fact that Ian looks pretty in a toga).
The other episodes I'm a bit blah on. I'm not much of one for mid-to-late Tom Baker stuff, though Image of the Fendahl is one of the few Leela stories I enjoyed (the other being, of course, Talons).
As for the rest, well... Delta and the Bannerman is just... the one with the green baby.
The War Games should be on DVD, but it's not something I can see myself re-watching, ever. Not that it wasn't good; it's just so *long*
As for episodes I'd like to see on DVD, well, there are the afore mentioned Three eppies. I'd also like to see the Black Guardian trilogy with Turlough and his crazy schemingness (for some reason, as time goes on, I find myself liking Turlough more and more. It might be because he's the only companion Five had who wasn't... well, I won't say anything unkind, because I know some people like Tegan and Adric, but... well, he's just such a delightful scumbag), and also the Mara duology because Kinda is both trippy and quotable, and endlessly re-watchable and it's sequel is... well, I don't think I've seen it, but it has Turlough right? So it must be good (or camp at the least, which is like good...)
And, even though it isn't my favourite Three, I think Terror of the Autons is due a release because it's the Master's first outing.

I'm pleased to see some of these longer ones making it out onto dvd - I like Keys of Marinus, it's such a soup-to-nuts collection of things going on, and War Games is in my tops list, in spite of the very sad ending - but I like to read really, really fat books too, longer the better if the story is going well as far as I'm concerned. Must be why I so enjoy something that just keeps rolling along even after all these years.
Wish dvds weren't so darn expensive, tho... I keep ending up with old vhs tapes because I can afford more episodes that way.

So it must be good (or camp at the least, which is like good...) I heard a rumor about them releasing the Black Guardian trilogy. Enlightenment is actually one of my favorite Five serials. I like Turlough, partly because of his respite companion status for those long dark times, but also Mark Strickson's acting is hilariously intense and he has ginger eyebrows. Plus he tried to kill the Doctor with a rock. Snakedance is just Tegan and Nyssa. It's pretty bad. But at least with bad Five stories we get good commentary. Just remembered that the Key to Time special edition is coming out March 3rd in Region 1. I don't think Netflix will be carrying it which will probably mean talking my parents into buying it. Now you will all know of my secret love for Romana, which I've obviously been trying to hard to conceal, particularly in this thread. Sigh.

I love Strickson's acting in Frontos (sp?) anyway, the one with the evil bug monsters that he's randomly terrified of. Pure class. ;D Actually, that's another eppy I'd like on DVD. Oh, and Planet of Fire too (hmmm... I must like Fivey more than I let on).
Speaking of Strickson, I believe there's a link around somewhere on this forum to a hysterical promo video for... something, in which he is obviously very, very drunk. It amuses me.

Some good stories there actually - Deadly Assassin, The War Games and Fendahl may be the pick of the crop. And yes, the E-Space Trilogy - Warriors' Gate is one of my top ten Who stories, anyway, and the other two are pretty decent. Season 18 in general is better than it gets credit for (well, possibly not Meglos, but even that has its moments). Now all I have to do is win the lottery or develop a dastardly scheme to hold the world to ransom so that I can afford at least a couple of these... It think if I have to pick one, it'll be the War Games; it's long, but it's Troughton and it's a 24 carat classic.
If I had a wishlist of stories I'd like to see on DVD, I'd like Happiness Patrol and Greatest Show in the Galaxy, because then I'd have all of seasons 25-26, having splurged my Xmas money on Battlefield (apart from Silver Nemesis, but, well, they can keep Silver Nemesis ;D).
And, well, you are not alone - I too have to admit to carrying a bit of a torch for Romana; nothing to be ashamed of. So I keep telling myself.
And Turlough is great, for a variety of reasons; Frontios and Enlightenment may not be in my top ten, but they're in my top...something, largely because of him, and I don't really class myself as a Five fan. I was sort of surprised to learn of Mark Strickson's later career as a producer of wildlife documentaries in Australia - apparently, he was an associate of the late crocodile hunter Steve Irwin...
