My first short story! I started as a drabble and sort of grew.
“Jamie!” Zoe cried, running over to the young Scot and clinging to him. “It’s getting in!”
Jamie’s eyes went wide as water began to leak into the room at a quick pace. “Get up on the table!” he said, leaping up and helping Zoe to the higher point in the room. The water had already reached five inches… twelve inches…
“It’s getting higher!” Zoe clung to Jamie tighter.
“What we need is some kind of… some kind of plug. You know. A plug. Like a cork or something,” Jamie looked around the room and noticed the water was now over two feet deep.
“Take off your vest,” Zoe said.
“No,” Jamie said, seeing no reason for the request.
“Jamie McCrimmon, take off your vest or we’ll be drown in here!” Zoe ordered.
Jamie reluctantly took it off and handed it to her.
Zoe jumped down from the table. The water was past her knees. Sloshing through the water she reached the leaking pipe. The pipe had blown and made a hole that was large enough for Zoe to put her fist in. Cramming the cloth into the hole the water dripped and then stopped. Jamie jumped down from the table with a splash.
“Ooooh,” he said, understanding what she had done. “How do we get out this room?” Jamie asked, running his hand along the frame of the door.
“We could always wait for the Doctor,“ She sighed and sat on the table, sloshing the water around with her feet.
“It won’t hold forever,” Jamie said, keeping an eye on the pipe
“I expect they’ll be back soo-” She stopped as the door was opened and all the water rushed out onto a flabbergasted Doctor.
“Oh dear. What happened here?” he asked.
“That, there pipe blew! That’s what!” Jamie said, waving his hand at the fixed problem.
“That would explain the pressure rising and falling back there. Our captors have agreed to release us…”
“Oh that’s wonderful!” Zoe said cheerfully.
“…if I help them with their little aqua project,” The Doctor finished
“Oh,” Jamie and Zoe said in unison.
“I guess we’ll be stuck here for a while,” he sighed.
