Hi all, my name's John, I'm 30 years old (where did my youth go?! That's right - I misspent it) and from Liverpool in the United Kingdom (hometown of the Beatles, and, of course, a certain Mr T. Baker who you might have heard of). And I'm new around here.
I've been a Who fan since I was but a wee nipper - the first Doctor I remember is Davison, the first Doctor I remember VIVIDLY is C. Baker - "Vengeance on Varos" scared the bejeesus out of me - but "my" Doctor will always be McCoy. I still have a very vivid, very cool, memory of watching "Remembrance of the Daleks" when it first aired - straight after Miss Marple on BBC1 - it was quite simply the single greatest thing my young eyes had seen up to that point. The Special Weapons Dalek was, as Ace would say, ace.
I suppose the main reason I like the new series is that it stokes my nostalgia for those days - the recent Davros reappearance sent me into unashamed fangasms of sheer squee. Don't get me wrong - I have some real problems with NuWho, old skool fanboy that I am, but on the whole its the best thing on British TV today. I even, god help me, love Torchwood, even though I know it's rubbish!
Docs, in order of coolness:
Seven Two Four Nine Ten One Three Six Eight Five (sorry Pete)
I've always written, on and off, and I've been writing Who fanfic since before I knew what fanfic was - I've only recently started to post some of my stuff on the Teaspoon site, if anyone wants to give me some feedback. I came here actually via that site.
As far as fanfic goes, I prefer stuff that tries to tell a story and do interesting things with the characters rather than just slash/shipping - but that's not to say I don't like a bit of that too. With regards to shipping, I'm open to anything, with two caveats:
Four and Romana II were totally an item.
Seven and Ace should never, EVER, be depicted in that way - they were mentor and pupil - it's just wrong.
Anyway, here I am.
John

I continue to be amazed by the number of Seven haters out there, because, to my mind at least, he's just so self-evidently kewl. McCoy's at-times-dodgy acting and the rrrrrollling rrrrr's are just part of the charm, IMHO - you can't argue with the greatness that is Ace - and the Season 25-26 scripts were just excellent (apart from Silver Nemesis - that was a stinker!). I even have a special place in my heart for Season 24...
Oh, and hello there, too - pleased to meet you, Clifford and Kit

Love for Seven!!! I've got to admit to also having a soft spot for Seven. He's even been known to butt Three and Nine out of first place from time to time. And, I think he might be my room mate's favourite... well... she's expressed undying love for his brolly in any case. Come to think of it, I also have undying love for the Seven brolly... I completely agree on both of your fanfic shipping rules. Though, despite the wrongness of the pairing, Nemo_the_Everbeing on the spoon does some great stuff with Ace/Seven. I still protest the ship wth all my might, but good writing is good writing. Four/Romana II is my OTP gah... I'm such a fannish nerd (and loving it) Welcome to DbyA! p.s. what's the update schedule for The Sting looking like?

Seven is a great Doctor. And Sylvester is just positively brilliant. But then, I love all Doctors. I can't really put them in an order. But I do hold special places for Four and Eight.

Hi clocketpatch, it's good to be here.
Seven is just brilliant - and the brolly too. I might have to check out some of that Seven/Ace fic next time I'm on Teaspoon, but I'll probably have to scrub myself clean afterwards. lol :-)
The Sting progresses - next bit should be up sooner rather than later - with added Nazis!

I thought being fivey was by age. If it is then I'm still fivey. Hello, jjpor ( how does one pronounce that?) I am Schrödinger. If being fivey by account date then you are fivey. Good for you!!!! By the way, I like five a lot. he is my second favorite.

Sorry to hear you don't like fivey all that much, because as it would seem, you are the new fivey of the site. As in youngest (in terms of membership, if obviously not in actual age)? I don't _dis_like Five - in fact, Davison was pretty good most of the time - he's just my least favourite. Some of his stories were pretty dodgy weren't they? (whistles innocently and hopes no-one mentions "Time and the Rani"...) Anyway, pleased to meet you Aldebaran!

Time and the Rani you say? Seven's entire first season was a bit dodgy really... well, except for Paradise Towers, which is awesomeness. For Fivey I like Enlightenment. .... hmmm... Liverpool... I like liver... isn't Lis Sladen and Paul MacGann from there too?

Liverpool is the home of many awesome people. Tom, Lis, The Beatles... Clifford's dad. Not sure he's as awesome as the previous three, though. (No offence, Clifford.)
Paul's from Surrey, but went to school in Liverpool.

Ah, well, I knew he was connected to Liverpool in some way.
Sadly, I have no connections with Liverpool.

Hi jjpor.... my best friend in high school and his family were from Liverpool. We sort of thought we'd always be in touch, but at the end of high school he went right-wing on me and when I didn't do the same, he severed contact. That was a beautiful story, wasn't it? And a great way to introduce myself to a complete stranger! I'm very socially awkward!
My ladder of coolness:
Four Three Five Six Seven Nine Two Ten Eight One Twelve and a Half (Valeyard) Fake One #2 (William Hurndall) Fake Five (Mawdryn) Fake Four (Meglos the interstellar cactus) Fake Nine (Richard E Grant) Fake One #1 (Peter Cushing)
It's a very long and shaky ladder.
I just realized that Mawdryn is really Fake Six, not Fake Five.

Seven's entire first season was a bit dodgy really... well, except for Paradise Towers, which is awesomeness. 'Tis a fair cop - I was just saying about Five having dodgy stories when I was struck by, well *cough*Season 24*cough* Five stories I like 'cos they're good, in no particular order: Frontios Enlightenment Kinda The Awakening (well, I liked it, for some reason) Caves of Androzani (I know everyone says this one, but that's cos it's true!) Five stories I like 'cos they're not good, but... Mawdryn Undead - but...the Brig's in it. Black Orchid - but...it's an honest-to-god "historical". The King's Demons - but...I'm really into the old medieval history (same reason I like Robin of Sherwood). The Five Doctors - but...it's just ace! Yeah - I'd forgotten about Lis - and of course "The McGanns" (Paul and his 3 actor bros) are pretty famous here - Paul's the most successful of the bunch. Also, I believe Terry "Davros" Molloy is from the 'Pool, as is of course Alexei "the DJ from Revelation of the Daleks" Sayle, who is very famous as a comedian/writer, at least he is in the UK.

Paul's from Surrey, but went to school in Liverpool. I'm pretty sure he was raised here too, because he and his brothers can certainly pass for natives. I probably should have Eight further up my list...lol

Pleased to meet you Magnus, you 51st century war criminal you! I didn't know we were including fake Docs, or I would have had Cushing somewhere - just because it's Peter Cushing... And I liked the Valeyard, too... Ah well, it's not a hard and fast list anyway.

Pleased to meet you Magnus, you 51st century war criminal you! Credit where credit's due, thank you very much! Some know me as Old Bent Face, because it is. (I love that line.) The Zigma Experiment was a success!! A total, complete success!!! Just thought I'd get that in... As for Five, Davison would try to point out the things in scripts that didn't make sense, and he was told that no one would notice because it all went by so fast, something like that, and that the story worked anyway. Davison had to admit that it all slides by you pretty fast, and the stories seem to work. That's the first viewing though. They knew by this point that many people would be watching these stories many times, or should have known. I get the feeling that RTD feels free to fall down on the science or even just basic logic because of the precedent set by these stories. What were all those wooden gears in the robots' heads supposed to do? Why wooden gears, apart from looking nice? I really like Terminus. But going back in time accidentally and setting off the Big Bang by ejecting the ship's fuel and igniting it? With all Davisons I have to hobble my logic, which I do, because I want to have a good experience with them. My favorites, in no order: Castrovalva Terminus Androzani Frontios Mawdryn Enlightenment Maybe if I ever learn anything about Buddhism I'll like Kinda.
