Because Mickey doesn't get enough love...
Once upon a time there was a boy named Mickey. His Mum and Dad ran off when he was just a kid, and he was left to be raised by his Gran. She was awesome, but she died when he was still a teenager. Micke felt guilty.
He ended up becoming a mechanic and he had a girlfriend. Her name was Rose.
One day Mickey accompanied Rose to a crazy man's house to make sure she didn't get knife murdered staby-stabbed. While said girlfriend was inside, Mickey got ate by a dust bin. He didn't have the Doctor around to explain anything to him. He got ate by a dustbin. He wasn't so hot on aliens after that.
His girlfriend then dumped him for an alien.
Girlfriend's Mum pressed charges against Mickey.
Mickey had a pretty bum year.
Later, Mickey threw a pickle at a Slitheen. And, Mickey threw a missel at Downing Street.
Mickey got to be good friends with his ex-girlfriend's Mum once she realised that he hadn't murdered her daughter.
A bit later Mickey saved the universe in a Big Yellow Truck.
And, come Chrismas, he didn't really help save the universe, but he did participate. A little bit. Sort of.
Then he saved the universe again by alerting the Doctor to what was going on at that school-place thing. Granted, Sarah-Jane and K-9 helped him out quite a bit that time.
Mickey went in the TARDIS to see the stars. They were really realistic.
Then, Mickey saved parallel Earth with his mad zepplin skillz. And continued saving parallel Earth with his mad cyberman hunting skillz (all while taking care of his parallel Gran). Oh, and he became London's most wanted for traffic tickets.
Mickey got himself into parallel Torchwood. He was on the front line at Canary Warf.
Later, when the walls of the universe were breaking down, he popped back again to kick some Dalek butt. 'Cause Mickey is cool like that.
What's Mickey doing now? Why, anything!
(and I didn't even put in all of the great things Mickey did in this summary)

Mickey was raised by his grandmother? We have something in common!
Jackie pressed charges on Mickey? WTF? I know nothing about Mickey, Rose and Jackie.

Mickey doesn't get enough love. I've been watching series two on PBS with my family lately (we saw The Idiot's Lantern yesterday) and the way Ten and Rose treated Mickey in those episodes was just appalling, especially in the cybermen two-parter. And seemingly for no reason at all. Mickey was amazing in those episodes, and definitely far outshone Rose, and yet the Doctor's final words to him are "Goodbye, Mickey the Idiot".

Yes, but he says them with love, and perhaps he is actually saying goodbye to the Idiot, admitting that the tin dog era od Mickey's life is over. Actually, I'm not a fan of Mickey, even with the horrid treatment he gets, I mean he gave as good as he got. the Doctor is DYING in "The Christmas Invasion" and Mickey is whining at Rose that she doesn't pay him enough attention, I mean move on, Mickey!

Micky made me laugh. XD I think he and Rose were perfect for each other in that Rose got all clingy-clingy to the Doctor when he had better things to do.
*clenches fists* Rosssssssssse........ grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I'll admit to liking Mickey a lot - something about the not-particularly-bright innocent bystander to amazing events that appeals to me. Rose didn't deserve him

Oh... well, the use of the rift (pathway) between universes was gradually destroying both universes, every time the gap was crossed by anyone, so the Doctor had to close it up to the best of his ability. Also the Cybermen and Daleks were trapped in The Void (again the rift, or passage between), so sticking a permanent lock on any doors to that Void seems like a good idea.

Again, why did Mickley get to "HEY I DISLIKE THIS PLACE, GOING BACK TO OLD WORLD" while rose was still stuck in new world? How the hell did the Tardis get to new world?

I wonder if we might be talking about DW events I haven't seen yet.... In my world, Rose and Mickey are still stuck "over there".

It's because Mickey's black, I think. Black people can bend the laws of space-time better than white people.

Er... not sure what you meant by that Aldy but um... okeeey there
Mickey and Jackie are my favourite new Who characters, well, them and Donna, and Nine (but I'm going to leave him out of this, since he has his own thread, and his own love). What I like about Mickey, Jackie, and Donna is that they are very much normal people who have their lives invaded by the Doctor. They don't fall instantly in love with him as certain other characters seem to do. Their reactions and motivations have consistantly seemed very human and natural to me.
And Mickey is SO the new series' Harry Sulivan (I want to see fic having these two characters meet)

I love Jackie and Donna, just Mickey is loathsome to me, I am so sorry. I can see why people like him, i just can't seem to get him out of the jealous-ex-mebbe-stalker-at-least-guilty-of-schadenfreude catergory. I want to like him, and then I remember how horrid and petty he was. I think they just used him as a vehicle to make Rose and Ten look awful, and being, contrary, I refuse.

It's because Mickey's black, I think. Black people can bend the laws of space-time better than white people. That's just a popular cliche about black people. Newton... No. I haven't even seen all of "season three" (quotes because we had a season three already, and William Hartnell starred in it). I'm missing the middle of s3 and all of s4. The woman in Canada who sent me tapes is not doing well lately and I certainly don't press her to send DW these days.

Micky is often under estimated. I think that he is a great character. The doctor doesn't seem to like Micky very much from what Ive seen. ( which isn't very much )
