I've seen all of Four through City of Death. And just kinda stopped there 'cos... well, I dunno. But I didn't go ahead 'cos JNT scares me.

City of Death was the only episode of that season I could watch, and Nimons... but that was the more the strange morbid fasination of watching the worst acting I've ever seen... JNT scares me too. The red costume scares me. The first Tom Baker episode I ever saw was the one with the Vampires and Adric... very odd. I couldn't finish most of the red-costume episodes. Megalos is oddly not that bad considering it's about an evil cactus that wants to take over the univers. Also, it has Barbara in it. And Tom is the Cactus.

You know mentioning the Doctor, Sarah Jane, and Harry... I can't help but be reminded of a comparison that crossed my mind between them and later trio on the TARDIS (the Doctor, Rose, and Mickey).
There's just something about the chemistry between the two trios that I find very similar
Both Harry and Mickey were only on the TARDIS for a short time and both were insulted by the Doctor (Imbecile and Idiot).
Both Rose and Sarah Jane were much cared for by the Doctor, both went through two different version of the Doctor, both saw him regenerate, both were very inquisitive, resourceful, brave, and left against their will. (Some argue both were in love with him too)
As for the Doctor he cared deeply for both Sarah Jane and Rose (whatever way you want to read into this), he disliked both Harry and Mickey initially but eventually truly appreciated them only after they left, purposively caused friction in the group (for whatever reason you want to believe), and only let the guys in on the recommendation of Sarah Jane (both times really).
So for these reasons and others, I wonder if the new series was trying to recreate old chemistry between the Doctor, a female companion and a male companion.

I really wish that Mickey had stayed on longer...
Methinks that is exactly what they are trying to do. The double companion seems to be the traditional format:
Ian/Barbara
Steven/Dodo
Jamie/Victoria or Zoe
it died for a bit in the Pertwee era, but then, that era was all about breaking away from traditions, and you could pretend the Brig or Benton (or even the Master) filled the role
SJ/Harry
Leela/ K-9
Tegan/ Turlough
Rose/ Jack
Rose/ Mickey
...
I think there are others I'm missing, and in the BF audios there's Ace/Hex and Charley/Crizzz (sp?). My guess is that it's a device at drawing potential romantic engagements away from the Doctor (because he's not human and, though it happens, especially in fanon, it's kind of icky.) And a way to give the show brawn and action without making the Doctor - traditionally, supposedly, a pasificist - engage in violent acts. That was Ian's purpose at least... dunno about the guys who came after him. Oh, and to be the 'tin dog'

I think my room mate put it best when she said that Tom is great fun to watch but he probably shouldn't be allowed out of the TV, ever, because he probably eats kittens or something. Tom is creepy. However, Tom is still awesome win (it's the scarf!!!) Hey, he's a British Capricorn. Give him a break. He can't help it. There's something distinctively odd about them... us... whatever.

And, I think of all the actors, Tom did the best at portraying the Doctor-as-an-alien. It's because he never bothered to read the whole script. When he was learning his lines, he only memorized HIS lines, and tossed the rest. He figured that is he had to portray a confused alien, he might as well deliver the "confused" segment as realistic as he could. There's a really good quote he made about that sort of thing on wikiquote, if you're interested.

Also, he seems to be vaguely drunk most of the time.
;D
Scarfman is such win, and I love his confusedness to death.

xD I love the Die!Tennant series.
=OOOO So am I! Well, minus the British part. BUT THAT'S TOTALLY AWESOME!
That's actually a really good method for acting (not like I would know anything about it, though). It gives you a more realistic reaction, I suppose, than knowing what everyone's going to say/do ahead of time.

It's not easy not knowing and remembering other peoples lines. I went to an art high school and did a lot of plays. Mostly tech crew like lights and sound. We went through many rehearsals and went over small parts over and over. By the last show I would know all the lines. I didn't even try to remember them, I just knew them.
Than again, TV maybe a little different.
