So, my first DW con. Was so completely made of every type of Win!
I'll start from the beginning, I s'pose. I got up at 5.00, my friend Rebecca was sleeping over, so we got ready and left (a bit later than planned) to pick up kinvoidstuff123 (that is his username here, right?). So, drove for two hours to LA, got there around 8.30, and ate breakfast at Starbucks. They were open at 9.00, so we got registered and figured out which events we wanted to go to, and went to The Sarah Jane Adventures: Year One first. It made me happy that everyone agrees that SJA is better than Torchwood. ^^ Then I went to the Sophie Aldred interview, which was brilliant. I wish I could remember all that was said. Sophie likes to think that Ace went to Gallifrey and gets up to no good there. Sophie seemed really nice. Her son knows that she was on telly, so always tries to bring it up in public to get attention to her. xD Then I tried to get to Is There Such a Thing as Too Much Doctor Who, but apparently went in the wrong queue or something and missed it. Then went to the Dealer's Room and bought two books and three UNIT ID badges, one of Four, Sarah, and the Brig. I really wanted a Classic TARDIS key, but the good one was $70.00 and the cheap ones looked way too fake. I suppose I could have spent more money, but I didn't really want to for some reason. There were loads of Classic books, but they were stacked up and not even organised. I wanted something by Ian Marter, but couldn't find anything. Then I got Derek Riddell's (Sir Robert in Tooth and Claw) autograph at 2.00 and went right back in a different queue for the 3.00 autograph session with Sylvester McCoy, Sophie Aldred, and Daphne Ashbrook. Then I went over to the interview with Daphne Ashbrook. She actually seems really nice. She's apparently the second cousin large-number removed to Edward VII, I think it was. Then I had to pop out to get Steven Moffat's autograph at 5.00. I got there a bit early and started talking to this girl in the queue and we got on the subject of the Doctor's sexuality (prolly 'cos I was talking about Daphne), and she said something about some audio and I was all, 'Thank God it's not canon,' and she was all, 'Oh, so you're an asexualist?' or something to that extent. First off I was thinking WTF?', then I said something like, 'fans can think whatever they want, but don't muck with canon.' Seriously, though. You can ship what you like, heck, I even ship, but it doesn't belong in canon. I'm quite happy with the unintentional, less-than subtext, thank you very much. Anyway, thankfully by then the doors had opened and we were allowed in so I got to stop talking to her.
Now, this is really the best part. I'm in the queue with Rebecca, she's in front of me, she goes to get Steven's autograph, and I go after her, and when I've got my poster signed, Steven says something like, 'I like the way this is going, there are more attractive young girls'. Now, I've never really found myself to be attractive, I mean, I've never thought I was ugly, but I'm a bit short (just a bit!) and around average weight. Once I find Rebecca I tell her what he said and we giggle like mad. xD Now that, that was awesome. I still feel giddy.
Then I ran back out to Daphne's interview and got there in time to hear her saying something about she'd be good a politics 'cos she talks a lot. xD Then she got sort of teary-eyed when she said she loved doing conventions 'cos there're so many fans of the show there. It made me feel kind of bad 'cos I know that I lot of people never liked her character. Then that interview was over and Sylvester McCoy came! Now, Sylvester is brilliant, just absolutely brilliant. Probably the funniest person ever. He starts out acting as if he's the interviewer and interview the actual interviewer. Then the get along to the actual interview and Sylvester recalls humourous stories from when he wanted to be a pope. And bugger, I can't remember everything, but near the end, Sylvester and the interviewer look behind the TARDIS (there's a TARDIS there) and Sylvester says that there's a man trying to kill himself behind the TARDIS, and he motions cutting his hand across his neck. He then says that he'd just found out the TARDIS wasn't real and was trying to kill himself. xD So, they had to wrap it up and the last person asks the question, 'Will you be my uncle?' Now, then, Sylvester replies with something like, 'I'll be your sugar daddy!' xDDD Now, it shows how fandom has affected me to not be disturbed in the slightest by this. 'Course, it's all in good fun. Well, interview ended with that and we left. I was able to tape some of the interview on my digital camera, so I'll try to get that up some time soon. And Rebecca took some pictures, so I'll try to get those from her.
All in all, brilliant time. I've decided I'm going back every year.
