Argh, this episode was so frustrating! I could have liked it, there were some things I would have liked, and indeed there were many things I did like! (Though they were mostly packed into the last fifteen minutes.) There was just SO MUCH WRONG with the science that it actually managed to get past my thus-far armor-plated suspension of disbelief. It really did affect the quality of the story, unfortunately.
How could the moon be growing? Where did the mass come from? How did the space shuttle land with no air? How could supposedly one-celled bacteria look and behave like eukaryotic organisms? The moon IS rock. Even if just the top layer was rock, some of that WOULD hit the Earth if it exploded.
How could the dragon thing lay an egg exactly the same size of the moon it just hatched from? Where did the mass come from? WHERE DID THE MASS COME FROM?
Ahem.
I'm now going to pretend none of that happened and focus on the last fifteen minutes. Wow. That was some acting from our leading duo. Clara finally calling the Doctor on his bullsh*t? Fantastic. You can see how they're setting this up. Clara has spent the last few episodes defending the Doctor's actions and she's finally had enough. This is great! This could lead the way to some fantastic character development on both sides!
The way she left the TARDIS actually reminded me of Tegan's departure.
Looking forward to next week, with the Doctor apparently solo.
