Not that there are many details, actually [EDIT: Apart from one potentially BIG spoiler!] but we have an actor, and some information on when/how the next series of NuWho is being broadcast. Seems we're going to have a five-episode run up to the Xmas special, then the Xmas special itself, and then the other eight episodes of S7/whatever in 2013, although Moffat says they won't be the only episodes shown that year (better @#&%ing hadn't be, Moffat - I DEMAND my 50th Anniversary story!) So a link to the press conferenceAnd the performer's imdb pageI've only seen one thing on that list, and I don't remember seeing the person in question, so must've been a small part. Anyway - thoughts?! I'll start you off with one which might annoy Maggadin ;D : * Is the reason Moffat can't even tell us the new companion's name at this point because she is in fact a somehow-regenerated River Song??!! Gawd, I hope not...* EDITED to correct various things wrong with the original post.

* Is the reason Moffat can't even tell us the new companion's name at this point because she is in fact a somehow-regenerated River Song??!! Gawd, I hope not...* "The new companion is revealed to be a young female actor. Doctor Who dies."] A regenerated Susan? Romana? (Obviously if I was the showrunner I wouldn't be able to resist making her Zoë back for another bite at the cherry. This is why I shouldn't be the showrunner ;D) Anyway, here's hoping she's from history, or she's an alien.[ Here she is in the flesh.

True, so true. ;D * My preferred option, obviously, would be regenerated Romana, but I think Susan would be intriguing - not least because it would be a completely different sort of Doctor-companion relationship to the ones NuWho specialises in. But then again, I too am probably better off not being Who shorunner. ;D* Actually, there is a pretty big spoiler in the article I linked to which I would have noticed had I bothered reading all the way to the bottom the first time: * Steven, can you reveal more about Amy and Rory's exit? Moffat: "Yeah. Amy and Rory will leave in the fifth episode that goes out, and it will be a final encounter with the Weeping Angels, and not everybody gets out alive - and I mean it this time!"
Dear Lord - can't poor Rory just catch a break?
Unless they kill River. I could live with that,* But... * And with their departure, does that mean we've seen the last of River Song (Alex Kingston) too? Moffat: "No, not necessarily."
* Moffat...?! Enough is enough! I'll choose to believe for now that's just him being coy and mysterious for the sake of it. It'll make me feel better anyway.

JJ, I wish hadn't read your theory and Moffat's quote. Now I'm completely discouraged. Bye bye show, it was nice knowing you.

* She's cute, but fairly uninspired casting. I was hoping for a POC at least. Still, I'll hold off judgement until we find out more about her. Oh, I would love a historical companion. And considering that period dramas like Downton Abbey are really popular right now, that seems to cast doubt on the idea that modern viewers wouldn't be relate to someone not of this era.
I don't think she's River - otherwise what would be the point of her giving away the rest of her regenerations? Although I wouldn't be surprised if Alex Kingston!River returns for Amy and Rory's departure. Honestly, that seems fair to me, given that she is their daughter and everything. *

*I was referring to Moffat's ''Not necessarily''. By that he surely means that River will be back even after Amy and Rory are gone (or am I reading it wrong?)*

Looking on the bright side of life (de-dum, de-dum de-dum de-dum):
*My wild speculation regarding regenerated!River etc was just that; I don't for one minute believe it could be true, and as IMF points out it's specifically at odds with stuff established in the last series, so...
Regarding Moffat's comment re River, "not necessarily" isn't the same as "definitely!", so there's a silver lining of sorts there.*

*Well, it does sort of mean ''definitely'' or ''probably'' in telly producer talk. No modern producer says ''not necessarily'' if they don't actually mean ''almost certainly'' or something like that. When producers aren't sure or know for a fact that a character won't be returning, they say something like ''Probably not'' or ''There are no plans of that, currently''. That's at least the pattern I've noticed in pretty much every show I've ever followed. And I'm good with patterns... I think there's far to many legal, contractual and PR-issues issues at play for Moffat to even hint at a return if he's not at least reasonably sure of it. Also, he did say ''I think so, yes'' when somebody asked him on Twitter.
I certainly hope she's not Romana because then they'll just have the Doctor choose River over her and have a stupid love-triangle or something.

Your logic torpedoes my optimism yet again, Maggadin. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess. In the meantime - trailer! * It's mostly scenes from the Western episode they've apparently been shooting in Spain, possibly because that's just about the only finished footage they have at this point. But still. Amy showing appalling firearms safety skills and the bloke out of Farscape (which I only watched about a series and a half of, but everybody tells me got really, really good later on) telling everybody (who isn't an American) to drop it. And it has brief glimpses of Ancient Egyptians, snow-buried Daleks and Mark Williams out of The Fast Show, aka Petersen out of the first episode of Red Dwarf (I gather he had some role in the Harry Potter films, none of which I've actually seen, but that's what I know him for). Word on Livejournal is he's playing Rory's dad.* www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5iwoRA2Cas

* Sounds rather boring. ;D And didn't River say something about Ancient Egypt, meaning she'll be in it? *

*Jesse's Diets: "This week, I 'ave been mostly eatin'...Daleks!"
(That will mean nothing to anybody unfamiliar with The Fast Show, the 90s-era BBC sketch comedy series that launched a thousand catchphrases and kept Paul Whitehouse in gainful employment for several years after Harry Enfield and Chums or whatever it was called finished but before that never-ending series of insurance adverts he appears in nowadays began. Johnny Depp made a guest appearance in the very last episode, believe it or not.)
To wrench myself back on topic... One thing I noticed immediately about the linked trailer, Maggadin - not a sight or sound of River. Could be too early in the day to make a judgement either way on that, mind you.*

;D Yes.
I don't even think that counts as a spoiler because it's probably going to go zooming over the heads of just about all of the regulars apart from johne.
