Just watched it on BBC America at my boyfriend's house.
Not my favorite, but not too shabby either.
Here are some of my thoughts, as jumbled and random as they tend to be when they come spewing out, so bear with me... Or don't it's pretty much up to you.
As usual, white text to hide spoilers.
The opening was not promising. Eleven looked at the explosion as he was running. "Cool guys don't look at explosions." Eleven just failed that I suppose, but as I pointed out, we all really know the truth about the bowtie...
Eleven falling into space with frankly terrible effects and then screaming in SPACE... It was frankly rather disappointing. I'm not even going to go into the stupidity of having him survive perpendicular re-entry While getting into a space suit... Srsly, did you see that crater. Perpendicular.
Onto good things then:
The Doctor had some lovely lines, although honestly they often seemed just a shade off color for him. Considering what the Doctor's just been though though, most of it was dismissible. Honestly though, most of it was his answers being entirely too reasonable. For example, his answer to being asked "you're rewiring a telephone box?" was "Have you seen how I dress?". Eleven is suddenly is starting to sound entirely too self aware. XD
When he finished the initial tour of the house, my immediate comments were as follows:
"The Doctor totally designed those kid's his dream house. I want the Doctor to redesign my house. It'd probably be missing some important things, but it'd so be worth it. Y'know just for..." Here I faltered for a moment and then said in unison with Jeremy, "The lemonade tap."
Yeah, the darn thing was just that awesome.
No Panthers in the attic? Famous last words.
Can't say I care much for giant tikis... Although I did kind of like the queen.
Was that the same woman who played Agatha Christie...? I haven't checked yet, but I felt like it could have been... Dunno.
I was initially extremely annoyed with her and her crappy driving. I just finished watching the first Superman movie again with Jeremy and after Lois Lane I really don't need him to have anymore excuses to make cracks about women and their driving...
The Doctor feels insecure after being told he's weak... Especially once the woman is "strong". XD
They get points for making the name actually work. This is very much like a Narnia/Doctor Who X-over fanfiction writer's dream come true sort of thing in many ways... Obviously that was rather intentional, I was wincing with concern though when I spotted the thrones and the crown that they were about to pull some "Four empty thrones of Chair Parval" or whatever it was... And then they kind of did with the whole "you were foretold" stuff.
Like I said though, points for the Narnia thing working as far as it did, and especially for making the Tardis the "wardrobe". Made me think of the Earth arc with Eight from the EDA's though...
I do think Matt Smith could have worked the sad-lonely-lost-puppy eyes a bit more a few ties there, but it was OK really.
