We watched this as soon as we got back from band competition, and Jeremy kept having to run it back so we could hear what the Doctor was saying because I kept awwwwing over the dialogue. The Ultimate Awwww moment is of course the look on the Doctor's face when he sees Amy and Rory. It was utterly heartbreaking. You could just see how much he wanted to go over to them, to be with them just like before, but he couldn't.
LOL, the Cybermats make a comeback! And the Doctor named his Bitey, if you caught that! ...Wow, he really needs to get another companion.
It was cute and a bit sappy, (but in a touching and adorable way) as expected, and I was very pleased with Craig's return. (Still no acknowledgment of WHOSE prototype TARDIS that was on top of his house! DX ) The one thing I'd have wished for but could obviously never have would be this: eleventy-kink.livejournal.com/942.html?thread=2515886#t2515886

I liked it. It was adorable and hilarious. And wow at Smith's acting Is it just me or did he look physically older and kind of gaunt? He was being silly and flippant and Doctor-ly and at the same time he's just so tired and old. The bits where he was talking to the TARDIS. And the stetson. Oh man,
I also appreciated that no one was blatantly endangering baby Alfie (the Dark Overlord whose first name apparently means falling silence according to various people on lj). The Doctor told Craig it was dangerous. Craig told the Doctor that he felt safer standing next to the person who knew what was going on, and his baby was going to be in the safest place he could put him (a papoose! ...I didn't know they were called that actually. I just always call those things snuggles).
Amy and Rory turning up randomly made me ;D and at the same time
Oh! I nearly forgot: "You've redecorated. I don't like it." "I've moved". Made me laugh forever. Two references for the win!!Also... I've got a theory on Eyepatch Lady, and the Eyepatches in general which I'm going to white text. This is, uh, potential speculation spoilers for next week. You heard them here first! The eyepatches have some kind of monitor in them so that the people wearing them are constantly seeing an image of The Silents so they never forget that they exist.
I'm also kind of terrified that they're going to kill Rory again.

That's a promising theory Clocket! It also explains why the whole team appears to be wearing them in the new promo pictures I've seen.
Yeah, I cackled at the 'The Five Doctors' reference. There were several classic who references scattered through the whole episode! ^^

Madame K did say previously that their war against the Doctor has been endless and bitter, which would certainly be true for the Daleks. And the Daleks did create an android before. Nah, probably crazy!

SPOILER for next week: * There is at least one Dalek in the final episode, as far as I can see from the teaser trailer, so LL may be on to something... Mind you, there are crazy, almost-certainly false rumours on Imdb about Mark Gatiss showing up playing (wait for it) Fenric (?!). Which I don't feel is particularly likely, but there you go.
Mind you, I also like Clocket's theory re the eyepatches, and just from a practical point of view you'd need to have something like that in place just to prevent you from constantly forgetting who your co-conspirators were...which would make co-conspiring a bit difficult, I would think. * Regarding Closing TIme itself: * The Cybermen remain rubbish. I mean, the Cybermen have been rubbish since whenever it was the BBC changed over to colour, it's just that occasionally they've been in stories that were good in spite of them rather than because of them. Well, that may be harsh, but you know what I mean. Certainly, the best use of a Cyberman in NuWho remains that couple of minutes in The Pandorica Opens, which is a little sad when you think about it.
I don't think that was the point, though, really. You can tell Gareth Roberts is a big S17 fan, even if you've never read any of his wonderfully Four/Romana-centric MAs - he sees nothing wrong with writing Who as outright comedy, using the "plot" and monsters as excuses for the jokes and for allowing the actors to do their thing (not that late period Tom Baker often gave directors, writers etc much choice in the matter ;D). Okay, S17 has more to it than that, but I suppose what I'm saying is that there's nothing wrong with a bit of fluff and silliness and on that level this story delivered. Whatever people may think of James Corden (and I doubt anybody outside the UK even has an opinion on him), the fact remains that he's really good at his day job, that is comedic acting. And I'll second the remarks at Matt Smith being amazing here, both in the humorous and in the more serious moments.
All that and gratuitous classic Who references too (loved Eleven burbling about robot dogs not being as good as they used to be). A bit like the Lodger last year, a welcome breather before the finale next week and one that kept me more than amused and entertained while it lasted.*
