Did anyone watch Torchwood? If so what did you think of it?
I personally love the character of Captain Jack/John Barrowman but felt that he was a completely new character in Torchwood than what we saw in Doctor Who.
I think that the stories were OK in the majority but the series struggled as a whole to find it's own identity.
The 2nd series is supposed to be better so we'll just have to wait and see. I think it starts in the UK at the beginning of 2008.

Sorry for being completely ignorant...but...What is Torchwood? I have never heard of it, unless it has something to do with Burning Man...or others...

It's all up on youtube, or was. I agree about Jack being a different character, and I don't like that character, or the constant !!!SEXSEXSEX!!! blood and gore theme they've got going on. I prefer the kind of sex scene where they pan off into the fire place, or the blood and gore where they show shadows dancing on the wall. Imagination is a wonderful thing, and I find Torchwood condensending because it assumes that its viewers don't have it. I'm also not so keen on a show that runs on a !!!SEXSEXSEX!!! blood and gore theme associating itself with a children's show, and maybe that turns me off more than anything else. That said. Random Shoes is excellent. Even if you end up hating the series (and you'll know if you do or don't by the second episode, trust me) tune in for that story. It made me cry the one with the time travelling plane (that's not a spoiler is it?) isn't bad either. And that's my Torchwood rant.

Torchwood is a dissapointment and almost unwatchable in places. I tried watching the episodes but each time there was something that made me turn over. I think the ghost machine one has its merits and there are some good bits in the plane one but on the whole, not good.

I don't really like Torchwood. And I agree Captain Jack is a completely different character in it, and I don't like the Torchwood Captain Jack as much as the Dr. Who Captain Jack.

The first episode of the new series of Torchwood is called "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang". For some reason when I heard this I burst into uncontrollable giggles. From what I've heard of Torchwood, it seems an appropriate description.

Seriously? *tears of laughter*
Well... at least they know what they're making and they aren't trying to trump up the package
still...
*giggles*
I gotta say that is The best summary of TW I've heard so far.

I hear they're now getting rid of the 'We be v. serious!!' bits and going straight to crack.

hmmm... not sure what to think ofthat. But hey, at least they aren't giving themselves pompous airs anymore but my favourite ep.s (the only watchable ones) were the semi-serious ones that attempted to put some plot with the crack. Like random shoes, and ghost machine, and the plane one... the rest were just urg on a side note. CBC cancelled Torchwood after one season. They're so never going to pick up SJA now. one more reason for me to HATE Tw

Aww! But SJA is awesome and for kids! They can't judge SJA based on Torchwood... BBCA is going to show Torchwood, but I'd much rather see SJA. And of course BBCA doesn't have kids' shows (I think).

I died a little death today. I went to Wallmart with my room mate for some ketchup and water, and we went to look longingly the DVDs like we always do. And I went on a futile quest for Doctor Who DVDs like I always do (I haven't found any yet, not even the new series boxset). But today I found a Torchwood boxset. Reasonably priced. *headslam* No DW in sight, but THAT STUPID SHOW!!! WHY DOES IT GET A 60$ BOXSET WHEN ALL THE DW BOXSETS I'VE EVER FOUND ARE WELL OVER 100$ ? WHY? ?? WHY DOES IT GET A BOXSET PERIOD? Why does Wallmart sell $#^&@!!! Torchwood when I've got to order classic Who online?? (calms down) And that's why a little piece of me died today. Because, apparently, Torchwood is more popular (according to Wallmart) than Doctor Who. And that's just wrong. Actually, Torchwood's just wrong in general, and seeing it in boxset was upsetting even without my rant about not being able to find classic DVDs.
