No super!formatting for me, as I'm feeling rather tired, but ...
First of all, I believe the best character surpasses even the Doctor ...
the TARDIS. She's been beaten, battered, exploded, sealed in a volcano, driven through war, and one might say
worst of all, the Doctor's repairs. ;D She's still going strong, eccentric though she may be, although that's part of her never-ending charm.
Compassion is wonderful as well, in her own way - and I believe my love for her comes not from the series, actually, but from a fic I read from her POV. (If it's not okay to post fic that isn't my own, I will take this down immediately, but it really is a terrific story.) It's called
Learning Compassion, by Woof, and it warmed me to her more than the books did!
RORY! To imagine having someone wait for you for thousands of years ... and, well, the Centurion costume doesn't hurt. (I am so very shallow.)
Ruthless and gentle, playful and fierce, in my mind one of the few Professional Companions:
Sarah Jane.
Ian and Barbara - oh, the original TARDIS OTP. ;D
Indestructible
Tegan! Her relationship with Five was
brilliant.Romana! I LOVE watching her grow emotionally, and I love the idea of her taking bits of the Doctor's quirks and knowledge and utilising them discreetly in her rise to power on Gallifrey.

Seven and Ace, my favourite Team TARDIS (in a close tie with
Four and Romana II).
THE TECHNICOLOUR DREAMCOAT, I swear it could be its own character. I love it very much, even though it blinds me - is that masochistic?
Since I'm animating clothing and accessories:
SCARF. That is all.
DONNA! The stuff of legends!
Martha, she seriously went to the ends of the Earth for the Doctor ... !
Peri, Peri, Peri ... lovely girl, actually quite bright, and I imagine her botanist repository of knowledge came in quite handy a few times ... and at eighteen!
Science Officer
Todd, oh, would've been so good in the TARDIS.
DALEK SEC. Although surreal, he made my heart jump a little with hope.
FITZ FITZ
FITZ.
Such a good character, one who went through so much hell.
And how could I forget the
Brigadier?!
Never should I forget the Brigadier! "Have I ever led you astray?" "... On many occasions." xD
Also, dear dear
Jo Grant. Proof indeed that the TARDIS never leaves the companion, even if the companion leaves the TARDIS.
Someone I'm not sure many people share with me, but I'm shameless:
Lucie Miller! I
adore the banter. I think they have a very strong dynamic during both good and bad situations. I have
one Lucie fic, but I flail at the shortage of it at all - I find her very intriguing and wish I knew more about her.
Also, you have to commend Turlough for not only becoming honest to the Doctor, but honest to himself - after all he's been through, it must've been difficult ...
By the way, may I shower love upon the actors themselves? Because Billie Piper has a magnificent set of pipes (not really my style of music, though "
Walk of Life" is good during certain moods and I can most definitely appreciate her talent). ALSO: MCCOY. I fell in love with him all over again this week. Witty,
amazingly athletic in his younger years, looks great in a kilt,
fantastic magician, and
spoon virtuoso!
There are most certainly more, but these spring to mind at the moment, and I want to lavish attention on all those I can recall at this time. Now for the grotesquely sentimental, because I feel like it.
Some say love
It is a river
That drowns the tender reed.
Some say love
It is a razor
That leaves the soul to bleed.
Some say love
It is a hunger
An endless aching need.
I say love
It is a flower
And you - its only seed.-- Bette Midler, "The Rose"
