Cool! That tent-van barrier is very effective against spoilers though innit?
**white below**
Have any of you seen the (obviously) fake casting call over at IMDB which claims The Kroll, CyberDaleks, Omega, and Adric's ghost?!? Possibly the most wtf bit of speculation I've ever seen.
Though... the word is out (and confirmed) that this year's special is going to be a retelling of A Christmas Carol. BRING BACK PAUL MCGANN FOR CHRISTMAS PAST!! Y/Y?!?!

I love the attempt to identify the famous guest star behind the barrier - whose famous chin is this?! ;D
And I think I'd be more than happy with either of those two options, although secretly I really wanted to see:
*An escaped Egyptian goddess, on the Orient Express...in SPACE!!! And if that wasn't a bit of a subtle-ish dig at Voyage of the Damned, I don't know what is...*

More from the same source [SPOILERIFFIC!!!!]: www.flickr.com/photos/alun_vega/* New jacket for Eleven?! Here was me kind of hoping he'd keep the white tie and tails, and possibly the top hat! ;D*

*Hmm...I can sort of see the Scrooge parallels if this Gambon character is portrayed by different actors at different ages... Michael Gambon, though! Quality actor - and I saw a recent interview with Moffat about how surprisingly easy it is to secure bigtime actors like that, provided you furnish them with a decent script. So Gambon obviously thought it was a decent script.
And reading down the web page a bit...we might get our Orient Express scenario after all...might... And Peter Bowles in it? I expect that Peter Bowles is completely unknown outside of the UK, but he did have quite a decent career back in the day, playing suave upper-class types in comedy series and the like. If he was in it, it would certainly be a blast from the past. One of those actors that you're sort of suprised to discover was never in classic Who, because just about everybody else was...
So, roll on the Xmas special; I continue to be pretty excited! Well, goes without saying...*

WE HAVE OUR FIRST OFFICIAL CLIPS!! See the BBC's fall/winter trailer (relevant part is right at the end): www.youtube.com/watch?v=54X5cPO2Ka8&feature=relatedOkay, so, the actual Who content of that was very small but the amount of NuWho Doctor actors in that trailer is hillarious. I also kind of want to see the show with the steam punk space ship. I think it was called Outsiders? But, back on topic, that relevant bit of dialogue... I think I've got an idea of what kind of a Christmas special we might be getting.

Is there any validity to the rumors about Paul McGann? Because that would be just freaking awesome.

Is there any validity to the rumors about Paul McGann? Because that would be just freaking awesome. No pictures anyway and I don't think they'd be able to keep something like that a secret... though... they have been good at secrets so far. ** Given the relevant line in the preview I think we're getting the Christmas Carol redux we've been promised for so long. If McGann were coming back I'd say he'd be the ghost of Christmas past but if Eleven is playing that part... which leads to the possibility that this whole episode will be looking at an old crotchedy AU Doctor who gets inspired bby his youth and wibbly wobbly and all of that...
Of Eleven could just be being a glib smart alec.
Yeah, it's probably the last one.
*crosses fingers for McGann*

Haven't heard anything about McGann, but wouldn't that be awesome?!
*"I'm the ghost of Christmas past..." Just the way the boy Smith says that made me squee a little - I'm a sad case, aren't I? ;D
For a moment, I was like "They let Eleven have a hat - and now he's going to lay the smackdown on the Third Reich???!!!" but then I realised it's that thing about Christopher Isherwood with Matt Smith in - should be top viewing anyway.
But yes, lots of Who actors on show... I think the steampunk spaceship thing is The First Men in the Moon, which looks kind of awesome actually. For another second, I thought Eccles was punching out Davy Tennant before I realised they were in different programmes - pity! ;D The woman with Tennant in his programme is the same actress who played Mona Lisa in SJA who I was badmouthing recently - I recognise her from her Corrie days...
The couple of Aurelio Zen novels I've read (by Michael Dibdin who wrote the Last Sherlock Holmes Story? I think...) were really good - about this cynical Italian detective dealing with the quite frankly insane levels of political corruption etc in Italy - so the TV adaptation might be worth a watch.*

I would love to see McGann come back. I mean, I'd like to see any Doc, but he seems the one most able to do it. And I know he'd love to. He'd do it at the drop of a hat if they'd just ask. But I don't know. They might be forced to explain a lot of stuff about the Time War if they did bring him in. They might not be ready for that. But it does make me hopeful that they will bring him back eventually. If only to wrap up the Time War business. We can only hope.
Now that's something I'd kill to watch. I mean, I like NuWho as much as the next person, but I'd give it up in a second for a series based on Eight during the Time War. No question.

I think we've discussed the idea before of a spinoff series about Eight's Wartime adventures, and I think we decided it would be just about the coolest thing ever. Because it would! ;D

Yeah, that really would be awesome. I heard a rumor a while back (one that I never believed in, but really, really wanted to) that Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston were going to do a Time War-centric spinoff together. When they mention Chris, I knew it was completely nonsense, but it sounded awesome. A series that kept flipping between Paul's time and POV to Chris's just sounded cool. It could be really confusing, but if done well that would have been amazing.
Still, knowing that that will never happen, the only thing I really want is for the New series to just stop being stupid and give Big Finish permission to do audios about the Time War. To be honest, I have much more faith in Big Finish so I'd rather see them tell us what happened than the show. Still, Big Finish is pretty smart and they've gotten around all those little rules pretty well. Like The Catalyst audio, where it was clearly set after the Time War. (Sorry, I love Big Finish. I tend to jump a bit when talking about them. = ) )
(Note: Every time I mention 'Time War' here, I'm just talking about the Last Great Time War.)

Gaiman speaks!!!!!!!!!! doctorwhospoilers.ueuo.com/wp/?p=1210 Neil's episode is loong said to have involved the return of an old face, it has been (in my knowledge) Astrid, River and now this...at any rate it's very exciting stuff!)A timewar series would be awesome, but I don't think I could give up current DW for it...still...

It'll never happen, of course, the Time War series (well, not until New Who has been cancelled for a bit and Big Finish finally get the rights to use characters etc from it - so hopefully a good few years yet!), but we can dream...
Regarding Mr Gaiman's words:
*Zoe??!!! That's what we're supposed to think anyway... I of course strongly approve of using plot points from 40+ year old stories! ;D If it was an old (Time Lady) friend, I'd rather it was the Rani just because, well, I kinda like Romana (as you may be able to tell by now! ;D) and I'd rather not have her be played by an actress I have grave misgivings about after her duff turn in SJA...
Still, good old Gaiman - proper fan!*

Now I'm wondering: Iris? Flavia? Jenny?
I'm hoping for the Rani. I don't care if she's played by a ham.

Nah, that'd just be stupid...* You know, that was my first though. Then I was like, naaaahhhhh, they'd never do that. It would be awesome though. Only trouble is, they wouldn't be able to have Katy Manning play her, without much confusion, after the SJA episode... but right, she's being played by the obnoxious Mona Lisa lady face!palm
Oh well. But if she does end up being Iris, then I demand a CGI Frobisher. Because Pengiuns are Cool

Yeah, too bad, but it's fun to dream about. I do find it ironic that the new show has so many restrictions on the audios, though, since Big Finish was around before the new series and the new series has taken a lot of their ideas for their own show. But at least Big Finish has the First and Second Time Wars to toy with. That's always fun.
Oh, man, Christmas is so far away!!! = )

and spring is even further. *sigh* All the news coming out of filming these last few weeks has me super excited and more than ready for a blasted episode...I really oughtn't complain, I mean at least we had a series this year but didn't it go by too fast? Doesn't it seem terribly long ago?
** So...the Rani? I dunno...Wargames...these clues are all a bit odd. ALSO they are filming in the USA! I think for the second half of the series, how badly do i wanna be there? If we take a collection I promise to kidnap some actors and share them *wink* However, that could tie in with the "Change Thanksgiving's name" hint as it's America...but I've also heard it's one of Terrance Dicks novels that script is adapting about vampires in Chicago.
Regarding the Gallifreyan clue (how could a fellow gallifreyan do that) It makes NO SENSE. I mean think about it what HASN'T a fellow G-freyan done? The Master has certainly proved to be not friendly as has the Rani and Rassilon and well, it'd almost HAVE to be Romana in order for the Doctor to be taken by surprise by their casual cruelty.
Regarding Neil Gaiman's episode, I still haven't found the link with those outdated spoilers that are proving now as opposed to for when they were written, but I have a chance now as I have dug the old computer back out and it may be in the history. Aside from that, do we have anything we can put together to figure it out? I think the War Chief is right out as he is SOOO not PC. It could be the Rani, but she's mostly associated with the downslide DW had and I think the producers are still a bit scared to associate with that aspect of the show. Zoe, I can see, almost, since she was in the future, but what's the deal with her soul?
A closing thought, what if Romana survived the Time War as she was in hiding and THAT'S what has the Doctor so upset? That she would hide? I dunno, just brainstorming a bit.**
