It could just be because I had the volume low and was a bit distracted by moving and Matty boy was talking real fast and mumbling, but I was just really bored by this episode. There were interesting concepts, but I'm not completely sure what any of them were. The only thing that's caught my attention are the hints that River might not be what she seems (the wife thing is clearly a red herring, at least... please, please, please...)
The angels, meh. As my room mate was saying a moment ago, they were only interesting in Blink because of the timey-wimey loops they set up and the whole idea of 'killing you nicely', once they start snapping necks they aren't nearly so interesting.
I'm all negative, sorry, and it could have just been the viewing conditions, but I've never been bored by Who before. It didn't even feel like I was watching... I don't know. Apparently we learn more about the crack and Amy next week. That's something.*

** [white] I agree with a lot of the things you said about the episode, Clocket. Though I still rather enjoyed it. But then the story isn't over yet. I don't really want to judge until next week's episode.
The Angels really were a lot more interesting in "Blink" with the Timey Wimey stuff. I would have found that more scary really, if they were still sending people around in time. Changing the whole way they work is really bugging me. And the speaking through the people it's killed hit very strongly of the Library episodes in my opinion.
I'm still holding out that River Song is a Time Lord. please please please
On the hearing what they were saying. Weird. I've had more trouble catching Smith and Gillian's dialogue in the last couple episodes but this one, I didn't really get that. But we had the volume up real loud. hehe [/white]**

Yeah, my volume was down low because the other room mate was sleeping. Also, we kept interrupting the episode to fish ice out of the freezer we're defrosting so... I missed a lot. Was just reading the reaction posts and was like OH! THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING! So it definitely needs a re-watch.
On River Song as a Time Lord... I'm definitely getting that she's had some kind of relationship with a Time Lord OTHER than the Doctor, even if she isn't one herself. Her whole thing about being taught by one of the best and having pictures of the Doctor's life. I'm beginning to wonder if that diary the Doctor isn't supposed to look at isn't so much spoilers as a bunch of general information on him that River can refer to in order to gain his trust/Godmod.
I love Matt's making sound effects, but the TARDIS thing was very WTF. Major continuity fail their Moff.
And I don't like how Eleven, in all of his episodes except his first, has had his thunder stolen. I think it's Matty boy's age, but he needs to win or else he just looks like a stupid kid posing at things. Which is driving me nuts, because I think I like Eleven, so give him a chance to shine already!
Next episode maybe...*

** [white] Yeah, the TARDIS noise was amusing to a point but really bothered me with the continuity issue it brings up.
The Diary, I'm starting to think something like that as well. It's leaning a bit more toward she may be a baddie of some sort. Or just needs to use the Doctor. I hope next episodes shines some light on this stuff. The mystery of it all will start to lose what charm it has if they keep holding out. Especially if we don't see River again for another season.. or two. Who knows.
Yeah, they keep giving all the clever moments to Amy and then let River fly the TARDIS around like the Doctor's an idiot. It's all really making Eleven look incompetent. I don't like it. That said, this week's "Amy is Clever" moment was better than her last couple. This one was definitely more realistic and actually clever with her stopping the tape on the static moment.

** [white] Yeah, the TARDIS noise was amusing to a point but really bothered me with the continuity issue it brings up.[/white] ] a) It would require not only the Doctor, but every other Time Lord we've seen for the past 47-odd years, to be driving their ship wrongly.
b) When you want the TARDIS to stop, that is when you want to put the brakes on.
c) With the Whoniverse in its current state, the Doctor is the only person who knows how to drive a TARDIS. So if River knows how to drive one better than he does, who taught her? Did the Doctor's Mum appear to her in between her visits to Wilf?
For all these reasons, I prefer to believe that River does not know what she is talking about.

Pictures? Please don't say they were of his whole life? I don't want her associated with the classic Doctors. ] We don't see them, so we don't know what they are. But since Ten is unaware of River in Silence in the Library, it seems unlikely that earlier versions met her. Unless the Doctor forgot her in one of his periodic bouts of amnesia.[

** I just watched it, and I'm a little surprised that anyone found it boring. I've never thought River is his wife, and I still don't, but I like that he still doesn't have a clue what their relationship is. I'm not sure I like having the Weeping Angels snapping necks instead of zapping people back in time, but I imagine we may find out a good reason behind it in the next episode.
River doesn't say she's met all the versions of the Doctor, just that she has all their photos.
I liked that the military were clerics, it was very Heinleinesque.
Did anyone else think that Amy saying something about not being that clingy was a shot at Rose? **

*I'll...I'll be honest, I quite liked it. ;D I haven't been keeping up with lj etc this weekend, so I have no idea what the received wisdom on this ep is yet, but I thought it might have been the best one since The Eleventh Hour. *shrugs helplessly*
The continuity-busting just for the sake of a throwaway joke was a little annoying, I'll admit, but in general I didn't think the whole TARDIS-driving episode was so much undermining the Doctor as just poking fun at his shortcomings, sort of Four/Romana style (not that I'm comparing River to Romana...although I think maybe the Moff is...exhibit a = red shoes, exhibit b = Ribos-Operation-style feet-up reveal... ;D)
And of course, the idea that there are stabilisers that the Doctor just never bothers to use might explain why the TARDIS never used to do all of that tumbling about in classic Who. Although how he came to forget about them... *shrugs again* It was the Time War. Yes, that'll do as a handwave... ;D
The Weeping Angels are clearly there just because a lot of people thought they were cool last time and Moffat wanted to bring them back. I mean, it could have been any uber-nasty alien from the dawn of time; it's only the Angels for the brand recognition. Still, the labyrinth and the statues and the flickering torches were kind of creepy. The talking with somebody else's voice thing was very Forest of the Dead, though, wasn't it?
All in all, I thought the Doctor was very good here. Continuing to enjoy Smith and Gillan and their chemistry. I did think that thing about being clingy was a bit of a cheap shot at RTD-era Who, but that's just my inclination... And he has A Plan. Very nice; let's see if it works (although the fact that they're still all alive for the time being in the trailer for next week suggests that it might. ;D)
And yeah, there's something about River, isn't there? That thing about not letting the Doctor find out who or what she is, and the bit about being taught TARDIS flying by someone other than the Doctor. Interesting, very interesting; whatever can it all mean...?
But, you know, actually having River do awesome stuff like that whole escape from the spaceship rather than just expecting us to believe she's awesome because she talks a good fight and is incredibly pleased with herself the whole time...that's a good move. And no, I don't think it's going to turn out to be as simple as man and wife either.
So yeah, I liked it. I'm just the Moff's fawning little poodle, aren't I? ;D*

Well, here are my jotted down thoughts as I watched it proper-like, and, now that I actually have heard the dialogue and know what's been going on, I'm jumping on the AWESOME bandwagon. Wheeee! There's some very interesting cinematography in this. I like how the camera weaves back and forth between the exhibits in the museum.
Hmmm, all of this makes a lot more sense now that I can hear what they're saying.
I like Amy's little "Anything for me to do?!" wave
Mr. Grumpy face, heh. However… did he just say there's radiation in the ship? Dear oh dear, poor Doctor, I'm sure this (and River) are side by side dead last on the list of things he wanted to do today.
I think… I think I might have very similar hair to yours now Eleven… this was… not intentional… but if I scruff it differently I can look like Susan. Heheheh. I love my new hair.
Amy is winking at the Angel! LOL LOL LOL win
"River, hug Amy." "Why?" "Because I'm busy."
I'm actually liking River more this re-watch. She's less annoying. I think that part of this is Eleven's patent disregard for her as compared to Ten's WTF in the library episodes. Also, I'm near convinced she's a con-artist or something. And she's met another Time Lord. Also, the Doctor looked *very* suspicious about the breaks thing… please, please, please…
Loving these Church Army people. They might take Salvation Army a bit literally, but… and there's something with River. And then after that Ew Ew Ew sand in the eye bit when she's vaccinating Amy (and the Doctor didn't get one of those shots, eee, I hope he'll be alright, it hasn't been that long for him…) but when Amy asks her about the Doctor, she didn't give any of that spoiler rot, it was like she actually didn't know, "The Doctor is the Doctor" I'm convinced that she's just reading the events out of the book.
Ooo, thought, maybe River already knows about her death? Maybe she knows quite a few things? What happens must always happen… The journal could be an ontological paradox, picked up for her at the library… *schemes* She is totally not his wife.
*clings to theory*
*clings*
And then there's the person on lj who was speculating that River's prison could be the same as the one holding the Atraxi in Amy's bedroom. We did see the crack in next week's preview after all…
The black characters die first? Y hallo there Race!fail
The Doctor "We're in the middle of an army and it's waking up!" … didn't that Bishop guy say that River had promised him an army? O.o
I also like how Bishop guy cares about his men and obviously has less of an opinion on the Doctor. And doesn't take the Doctor's apologies because he knows that the Doctor won't be around to deal with the wreckage. Which also begs the question of how he knows about the TARDIS… from River, I guess. Curiouser and curiouser.
OH MY GOSH! I totally missed this whole "do I look that cling-y?" "YOU BIT ME?" "Yeah, but ALIVE!" "Blimee do you have space teeth?!?" sequence on the first run through and it is brilliant. Eee! Win Win win!!
The Angel Bob is messing with the Doctor's head, not cool.
Oooo… I think I've figured out the plan. He shoots the gravity glow and tells them to jump… and some kind of spilled gravity stuff floats them up? Or something?
Next week! Gah! I hope I'll be able to watch next week! It would suck to spend a month on this cliffy.
Anyways, yes, in summation, much MUCH better on the actually paying attention rewatch. I think I still like the Eleventh Hour more, but the story isn't over yet. And, apparently we're going to get more shout-y Eleven next episode. I am growing fond of his little freak outs.
And Amy's crack. And... did Eleven get touched by an Angel right at the end? Oh noes!***

but when Amy asks her about the Doctor, she didn't give any of that spoiler rot, it was like she actually didn't know, "The Doctor is the Doctor" I'm convinced that she's just reading the events out of the book. ] I think, combined with what we heard from Bishop Octavian about River being in prison, there's some nasty secret about her and the Doctor (in his and our future, and her past) that she doesn't dare let slip to the current Doctor or to Amy. And whatever it was, it ended up with her in prison.[

*Yeah, I think there is some Dark Secret going on here regarding River and the Doctor and maybe who/what River really is. I think all of the stuff where Moffat refuses either to confirm or deny the marriage thing is all just a red herring, and that the revelation when it comes will be a bit of a jaw-dropper.
I hope so anyway. ;D
I also have a theory regarding the Amy/Doctor kiss in the original S5 trailer, lo those many moons ago. I'm assuming it comes next week, simply because Amy was wearing that same red jumper (I think - if not, or if she just wears the jumper more than once this series, then I'm hilariously off the mark ;D). I think it has to do with River's hallucinogenic lipstick (which I think we'll see again, otherwise why bother introducing it. Oh yeah, cause it was a cool opening for the episode... ;D). But yeah, I think there's some reason, to do with protecting themselves from the Angels, that means the Doctor and Amy have to get off their heads on hallucino-stuff, and that's why they're wandering around a forest in the next week trailer. It's a forest of the Mind. Yeah, man. ;D*

** My other random speculation about River is that she is mixed up with the Time Agency, because 1. 51st century, so right era, and 2. the hallucinogenic lipstick reminded me of the knockout lip balm (I assume it wasn't lipstick) that Captain John used against Gwen in Torchwood. That could also explain her being in prison, because the religious army may not approve of meddling with time, and that's why she landed in prison. Or maybe they just don't approve of science in general! I do like the thought that it might be the same prison that was holding Prisoner Zero.
Has anyone else noticed the extraordinary parallels between Amy and River? Besides watery names, they have both handcuffed the Doctor, both had a lot of timey wimey stuff around meeting him, both are mysterious, etc. It makes me wonder if they are connected in some way. **
