Yay! Good to have Sarah Jane and the gang back.
*Fun story. It was nice to see the Judoon again. I like them.
The plotline with Rani's parents was amusing, but felt somewhat odd and pointless to me. Obviously it'll be important in the next episode, but that meant it felt like a clumsy way of getting characters from point a to point b.
And yes, during the evil Sarah Jane scenes (especially the tongue and the Mr. Smith scenes), I was certainly thinking of the inevitable fanfic and cringing a little. Because this is a kids show, y'know. But mostly I was cracking up at how over-the top Lis Sladen's performance was and how she seemed to really be enjoying herself. So I hope we get to keep evil Sarah Jane for a little while next episode.*

I agree this whole story has been brilliant! Very creepy and shocking episode... especially the evil!Sarah Jane stuff had me shielding my eyes in fear. I've seen Liz act hypnothized and controll before, but this was definite her best evil Sarah Jane stuff yet. I espeically was shocked when he did the fake out on Luke.
Poor Luke. Still too trusting.
As for the other part of the team, Clyde, Rani, and Luke did an excellent job of working off each other to overcome obsticles, and working with and against the giant intimidating Judoon, who reminds me some of the Judoon from the Judgement of the Judoon... willing to break the rules, at least slightly, when pressured by outside influences.
I really liked the scene where he sees the door labeld for AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY... and he refuses to go in. THen Luke points out he wasn't suppose to come to Earth according to the Shadow Proclaimation... and for a moment, you see the Judoon turn away as if embarassed and not sure what to say... and then he says simply...
"That was an accident."
And Clyde's response is grab the door open... and say... "Oops, Accident."
Just brilliant Clyde sarcasim!
And how much did I laugh when he banned the SJA team (at least Clyde, Rani, and Luke) from ever adventuring outside of Earth. That would be a good plot point to work with later, especially if any of these become companions of the Doctor one day. LOL XD
Perhaps, I've been deprive of new DW goodies for too long... because I'm definitely over the moon excited about more SJA goodies ahead.

FYI for others like me who are in the US and so have no place to watch SJA at the moment . . . there is someone on YT who has every SJA episode uploaded, including the 1st part of Prisoner of the Judoon. His username is nathan4no3.
I thought the 1st episode was very good!

Haven't yet chimed in here with my thoughts on this: * As Abby says, maybe it's deprivation of new Who or something, but I enjoyed this one enormously, even more than I normally do SJA (I stand by my earlier comments that it's the closest thing you'll get to classic Who, specifically 80s-era classic Who in today's televisual landscape).
The bits with Rani's parents made me laugh; I find them very amusing indeed, the lockpicking and everything, even if they didn't contribute much to the, you know, story...
The Judoon's law-abiding rampage of terror was similarly very fun; giving the cops a receipt for the police car he's just stolen off them, driving at 30 mph and telling people to turn their stereo down, and then when he's locked up and he has to have a little debate with his colleagues before they'll let him out, due to the "No Unauthorised Personnel" sign. ;D
I actually liked the villain-of-the-week a lot - very striking makeup job, and the guy playing him seemed to be doing some interesting things, but he was only on screen for about two minutes, because...well...
Possessed!Sarah Jane! Yes, it was totally over the top, but done with such gusto by Lis Sladen - clearly she appreciated a bit of a break from playing the saintly Sarah Jane. Disturbing stuff, though...the tongue, the rather, er, sleazy scene with Mr Smith (the way she runs her hand along his keyboard!) I'll carry that with me to my grave...
And Clyde's The Man. He's just The Man. When SJA ends, someone please have him leave school and have him get a job with Torchwood, or hook up with the Doctor or something... I don't know about the little introductory narration bit, though. Not sure about that.
And next week's looks intriguing; looks like one of those alternate-timeline, "be careful what you wish for" type stories that SJA seems so fond of. I mean, I'm fond of them too, but they seem to have at least one per series, without fail. ;D*
