My friend and I were talking about Twitter. We both hate Twitter, yet people love it. Twitter is a way for people to talk about themselves.
I mention that a lot of celebrities are on Twitter. He replied that they too have nothing to say. Yet Twitter is a good way to harass celebrities. Twitter is also a good way to talk and connect with fans without being jumped or kidnapped.
My friend then went to say "You know, there are a lot of celebrities out there who want to chat with fans and get to know them. They try to on the Internet but it's not like they have open chatroom. Why.? Because there are always idiots out there that scare celebrities away.
For example, if the Jonas brothers were having weekly chats, creep stalker 13 year girls will be all like "WILLL YOU MERRY ME?? " " YOU"RE SO HOT OMGOSH OMGOSH LOLOLOL JONAS BROTHERS ARE MY BFF!!"
There are those people who would spam saying things like "You're stupid. You suck! You have no talent"
Pretty much idiots ruin the fun.
Thanks to the 15 year old WHO fans who only watch for DT, he is scared of the Internet.
Pretty much what I am saying is scary fans are the reason why Celebrities don't want to talk to use. At least not face to face.

I don't think the 15 year olds are the ones David has to be afraid of. I think it's the 20-40 year olds who really should know better, and write things far FAR more frightening than simple ZOMG! Marry me! We're SOULMATES!
like the time a stumbled across a songfic... which was on, er, interesting subject matter... and had been translated into Old Finnish... The internet is SCARY PLACE! *nods*
(though, said scary fic does get points for being translated into Old Finish. lol)
But yes, internet is ruined for celebs by the scaries. Though, there are a few DW writers on lj who will gladly chat with you. Granted, writers don't have to deal with the same level of scariness as actors have too.
And I agree with you on Twitter. I nominally have an account. I've never used it. Ever. I just forgot my password and don't know how to get rid of it. I don't understand how you can condense your day into 125 character blurbs and still have it make any kind of sense without using obnoxious short forms. I don't see how you can get any real interaction with that kind of restriction. And, more annoying, I don't see what people's obsession is with copying those blurbs over to lj and spamming my Flist with them! GRRR!!!

I set up a Twitter recently because I am always checking out things to see if they have training application. I think it is the most annoying thing ever. Most of the people I am following are businesses rather than friends, plus some individuals who work at those businesses. Some people give you an hour-by-hour recap of their lives. I really don't care that you just drank a cup of coffee and folded the laundry. If you were my "BFF" you wouldn't want me to waste my time reading that!

I think the hour-by-hour recap phenomena is the scariest thing. I don't *want* people to know that much about me and what I'm doing every second. It amazes me that people are afraid of Big Brother, but are perfectly fine posting these random intimate details of their lives for perusal by complete strangers.
Add to that, how insecure are you, really, that you need someone, somewhere, to know what you're doing every second of the day? I've got a blog myself, and am a bit of an attention hog myself, so maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge. But it still boggles me. But, then, I don't understand texting on cellphones either, or, ah, cellphones in general unless needed for business or emergencies (the idea of people being able to phone me and jerk me out of my life an time any where makes me twitch)

Having an blog isn't about being an attention hog. Blogs are technically diaries, yet you share it with the world. Blogs can also be educational. Look at blogs that fouces on one subject.
Twitter is people having to tell the world what they are doing at the very moment.
Blogs are you expressing feelings etc.
Edit: I know Celebrities are people and have normal lives. Sometimes Celebrities want to have special day or something where they can get to know fans. Make someones day. Which I think is sweet.
I am no way a stalker or support stalkish stuff.
I do support stalking wild birds. By webcam not real life. I don't want people messing with nature.

I only just got onto Facebook. More and more it seems.... not sure yet, but it's dawning me as I speak that something's wrong with it. So far I've only been able to use it to comment briefly on people's pictures and have them comment on mine. All the pictures just let you know what their interests are. Once you know that, where do you go from there? It's not a place for conversation, not more than a few words. It seems more like a place to talk while avoiding conversation. Impossible? Not with 21st century technology! We're really putting it to good use, aren't we?

A friend of mine posted the best Tweet yesterday. She said "Why does this feel like I'm just talking to myself?" I think that is the best summation of Twitter that I have seen. On the subject of famous people, I am actually following Paul Cornell now. He attended the Doctor Who wrap party a couple days ago. David Tennant's filming is officially over, which makes me sad.
