Has anyone listen to this short little radio play of young man who loves Doctor Who a little too much. He has no social life and lives with his mother. When he goes to a convention he meets this crazy girl who totally crashes at his hotel and does some weird stuff to him. Nothing sexual but I think she drugged him though she says she didn't. She then goes all crazy on the mother and has now kidnapped the boy. Well not really, the young guy decide to runway with her. I am not done the play. Right she just arrived at his house. That isn't good Listen to it! www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007jwk8

I feel bad for the mother especially, and also for Nigel (great British stereotypical name that) who as it would seem hassn't quite grown up properly, and I'm not sure it's entirely his fault either. He would seem to have some sort of disorder beyond the whole being obsessed with DW thing. I kind of want to give him a hug. The 'Romana' though looks to be absolute bad news, and I'm not sure whether she is as nuts as she pretends or if that's all just an elaborate front so that she can do... something. She's definitely taking advantage of the situation.
The fact that I can place the vast majority of the Who-trivia mentioned in this should probably concern me more than it does.
Nigel would probably fit in very well with the Three-lovers on this forum.
Also, the music is fantastic.

No speakers, so I can't comment on the recording itself. I think social awkwardness in science-fiction media (TV) fans in general needs to be addressed in a far more respectful way, though. Right now, they (we?) are an easy target for mocking, and many dull, unimaginative mainstream people take advantage of that easy target. We've all met excessively fannish people, but maybe the fact that they exist (and that we overlap with them to some extent) indicates that something may be harmful or lacking in mainstream society.
Next Gen started to deal with this, just a bit, with the Barcklay (sp?) character. Love and Monsters had some of both attitudes, mocking and empathetic.

I can't listen to it. Does that have something to do with living in America?

I can't listen to it. Does that have something to do with living in America? It has nothing to do with you being an American. Most likely you do not have real player on your computer.

Hmmm, that's odd. It let's me listen in. I don't think it bans Americans. Maybe you don't have the right RealPlayer? Or maybe you're trying to listen to a section which has been taken down already?
