Why do sites have to have a rule that you can not delete your account? Really? What use is it for you? It will just clog your memory.
I'm not a fan of Neopets but they have a good account system. You can delete your account but they keep the information for xamoutn of time. After a while they fully delete it. They also delete accounts that have not been loggedon for over two years.
Gaiaonline.com and Teenhelp.org will not delete let me delete my accounts. Why?
Gaia says they need it for investigations when needed. Which I can understand, but again, the Neopets system can work for that issue.
Teenhelp.org on the other hand ...
"We are no longer offering cancellation or deletion of accounts. Having your account canceled or deleted is not going to delete what Google and other search engines have already archived. Your postings are already out on the Internet. If you didn't want the world to know, you shouldn't have posted it, or be more discreet next time. This isn't meant to be rash, but we've received numerous PM's recently about deletions and whatnot."
Wha? I, a 20 year old, someone over the age limit can not delete her account? Why? Because of some stupied 14 year olds who complained that their posts were on google? Oh come on now. Sounds like you, the mod is the 14 year old. what;s wrost is that they brought back old accounts, due to bug issues. Don't bring back the profiles and leave them there to rot. Re delete them!
I don't care if people can read my past posts. I just want to get ride of my account!

Gaiaonline is an annoying, annoying site. I was really into the Who guild there before coming to DbyA. In fact, they asked me to mod (which I turned down). I didn't spend any money on the site, because, seriously, why spend money on pixels??? (this is one of my main issues with the new neopets)
But, then my account was hacked and next thing I know some person's going around pretending to be me swearing at people. I ask Gaia to delete that account and they're all "OPpS should've been more careful with your password!"
ummm... I never gave out my password Gaia. fix your security system, and delete my stolen account. O.o
needless to say, I haven't visited there since.
As for teenhelp... I haven't used the site but whaaa??? Seriously, teenagers aren't discrete with what they post, and telling them after the fact, on a help site where they are ENCOURAGED to talk out their problems (anonymously, according to the front page), is just a slap in the face.

I am asking people on how to get banned. I now have some ideas. Gaia is really an awful awful awful awful site. Teenhelp.org ... STAY AWAY FROM IT. STAY FAR AWAY.

It's like that with gaming sites to. My "Pirates Online" account is still floating around even through I haven't used it in months... and for some unjustified reason, I feel bad about that. I should just forget and move on, but... it bugs me. I know what you mean, Newton.

I agree. I mean, yeah, it clears both garbage space and consciousnesses. Also, people can always just MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT if they want to come back. It's not that hard.

Not being able to delete an account is just silly. Why would they keep it? To make it look as if the site is bigger than it is? I don't know.

It doesn't really bug me. I just forget about it if I have a dead account I can't delete. I figure it's not my problem anymore.

The site I admin doesn't allow a user to delete their own account, but they can ask the admin (in this case, me) to do so. I've only had two people who wanted their accounts deleted, and I only deleted one of them, locking the other as 'inactive' because that person had been such a part of various discussions... with our software if you delete an account all of that person's posts vanish, leaving a lot of weird gaps in the conversations and reactions by others to something that isn't there. *shrug*
The ones I dislike are those that don't allow you to edit or delete your own posts - no way to retract your words or even fix a spelling mistake, bleah!

Right down to having to virtually stick your foot in your mouth apparently. I just grouse when I come down with a case of 'mumble-fingers' and realize only after I've posted that I've misspelled things. I suppose it's merely a snatch of 'writer's pride' (the self-notion that I am well enough educated to spell for pity's sake!) rather than anything of import to anyone else. ;-)

Oh, I hate it when a spelling error gets through, and I look very stupid to myself the next day. On the bright side, from what I see on boards generally (not here), how many people will ever notice?
