Summary: after travelling to a parallel universe the Doctor discovers that digging a hole to the centre of the earth is actually a bad thing and can have side effects such as green heat-resistant werewolves and the Earth being destroyed in a giant volcanic cataclysm.
We also discover that the Brig looks quite fine and roguish in an eye patch.

Well, this discussion is going well. I haven't seen Inferno in ages, so I need to re-watch it. Unfortunately I can't seem to find time. Dx

I saw it about three months ago, I think. I liked the alternate universe idea that it used; it seems kind of strange that in 26 years a tardis that can visit anywhere in time and space only visited an alternate universe once. And alternate!Liz's hair was pretty awesome.

Letme see... the Inferno world, E-space, wherever Eight went in the audios, and Pete's world... if I'm forgetting any tell me. 44 years and only four alt!universe plots. In a time travel show no less. tut tut. I'm impressed.
... wait, there was an anti-matter universe in one of the four stories, don't remember which one, or if he ever visited, or even what happened with it...
5 times then?

One thing that bothered me, that also happened in ST, is that the alternate world gets destroyed. Why was that necessary?

So that it could come back and haunt Three the next season and cause much subtle angst. Because Three likes being emo.
It leads to him materializing the TARDIS in a dumpster at the end of this episode. It make me laugh.
Really though? I don't know the answer to your question. To make the story more intense I guess.

I watched the first 2 episodes the other day (dvd arrived yay) not bad although there's a wide range of acting skills..some seem to be taking it less seriously than the others.
and is it me or have I seen that set before in the abassidors of death?
(I was discussing the episode with a non who-ist and they seem to think the Jon pertwee is gay) lol!

He is not! Though... he's wearing a cape at some point isn't he? Three has very nice things. My roommate has assigned random names to all of the Doctor's since she can't remember their numbers. Three is Ruffles.

That's amazing.
You forgot the Daleks though. I forget when they're down there, but they definitely are at some point.
Must be quite a party! ;D

Haha! Doctor Who is definitely putting too many things in the centre of the earth.
Oh, could you maybe resize the image so it doesn't stretch the page? (around 500 px wide?)

It's nice to have a spare Earth that you can melt or blow up.
Though I always hated the werewolves, there is one moment that gets to me. It's when slimed Benton looks up at some big indication that it's all over (I forget what it was, but Benton seemed to be looking at the final end somehow)... It turns out I can't remember enough of it. Anyway, it was so weird and surreal to see Benton looking at the end of his own species as a nearly mindless monster. I have to wonder what "thoughts" are going through his green head at that moment.
