This is something that my brother and I have pondered for awhile. If the BBC and the creators of Doctor Who manage to make it all the way to the Thirteenth body for the Doctor, then what?
What do you think will or should happen then?
My brother wants the show to continue and either ignore the 12 regeneration rule, since it technically hasn't been reintroduced in the new run of the show, or explain away why he can keep regenerating. I'm truly tossed on which way I feel, personally. I want the show to continue, but would that be best or would it hurt the show.
What do you girls and guys think? What do you think should happen after the Thirteenth Doctor dies?

Well. If they don't want to stop the series (I imagine they don't, it makes the Beeb so much money), I think they'll find plenty of ways to keep it going. Either by keeping the Doctor alive or continuing in something of a spin-off. If they want to keep the Doctor, there are numerous possibilities. The Master is a prime example of this. They can also easily make up something like the last Time Lord can't die, or something. Or they can just ignore the regeneration limit altogether. Or. I seem to remember, and correct me if I'm wrong, from somewhere the Doctor saying that Time Lords can live forever if they're just careful, or something. And from maybe a different source, still not sure, that a Time Lord chooses to die, that it's a sort of custom to die at the end of the thirteenth incarnation. And based on how the Master just recently refused to regenerate, it shows that regeneration is something of a choice.
If they want to continue the series without the Doctor, there are plenty of companions to hold up spin-offs. And I hear news that (SPOILER, highlight to view) the Doctor's daughter will come to play in Series 4 I'm sure they can give her her own show..

I've been thinking about it for a while. I've come up with a idea. Keep David Tennant and the other three Doctors on the show as long as possible. (no one or two year stint). When 13 had hand enough, kill him.
I do want the show to come to an end at some point. I think it's best if it were to end.
BUT seeing how 8 was in one movie and 9 in one season, if they keep up that rate, we will be at the 13th doctor before I'm 30.

I'm a bit torn on this too. I don't want the show to die because of some limit introduced back in the day when there were only four Doctors and thirteen seemed like an impossible limit...
but at the same time, the Doctor is already semi-imortal, and if he became fully so it would take away any ability to relate with the character. He'd become as Mary-Sue-ish as Jack... and I know the Doctor is kind of Mary-Sue already (and the RTD portrayal is the worst kind of emo Sue) but... if the Doctor were imortal there would be no suspense.
But I don't want the show to end.
Thirteen isn't an absolute limit though. The Master forced an extra regeneration... granted it left him a little crispy (ew, crispy Doctor!) or the Doctor could steal bodies but that would be... not right either.
The somethingy of Rassilon can give imortality, and apparently Time Lords can be gifted with a second set of regenerations, or re-born.
A nice solution would be to have the events of the Time War undone and have that somehow grant the Doctor a new regeneration cycle. Or something.
Or they could just ignore the limit.
If he does die at thirteen he must find Susan and say goodbye (and give her back her shoe!)
... of course ... we're all forgetting about the Valyard. He should be popping up soon, and who knows what he might do...

well they've always said the Doctor is more than just another timelord..so perhaps he has unlimited regerations or is immortal like rassilon?

I think that's what my brother is hoping. I'm still tossed. I don't want the Doctor to die, but I also don't want him to out live his coolness and become a running joke (which I'm sure some would say already has happened but not in my eyes). well they've always said the Doctor is more than just another timelord..so perhaps he has unlimited regerations or is immortal like rassilon?
