I just finished all 9 episodes of this show. It's a prequel to the lovely Inspector Morse series, where it focus on DC Morse in his late 20's early 30th, solving crimes in the swinging 60's.
I am going to make it very clear now. If you are not watching this show, everything you have done in your life has been wrong.
This show makes Sherlock look stupid and childish. Wallander suddenly becomes very boring. Vera becomes an generic crime show. Every detective show you loved will be ruin.
Why? Because this show has so much depth to it. It's one of those series where EVERY little detail viva the script, the set, the acting is extremely important. You miss a line and things can get a bit confusing, or things can seem a bit out of the blue when reality they foreshadowed it like 2 episodes ago. The characters are very deep and real. Yes, there is shows where the characters have good and bad traits. However I find a lot of those shows make it very black and white and/or the blatantly go "LOOK, THIS BAD GUY DID SOMETHING GOOD!!!!". For example (sort of a spoiler), one character had an affair during the war. When he runs into the woman he had an affair with 20 something years later ... well... it's tricky. Yet he's the best father and family figure in the whole damn show and he loves his wife greatly.
On top of that, the show is far more forward thinking. There is an interracial couple, many smaller characters with disabilities (which they do not make fun of or create stereotypes on), variety of lifestyles. Pretty amazing that a show is able to write in such characters and have it set int he 1960's!!!! Now the show isn't perfect in being 100% political correct but it has taken larger steps then most shows set in modern time. (Let's face it, London is not a white city!)
Seriously, check this show out. The crimes are interesting too. If you thrillers, episodes 2 of both season go with the thriller/horror theme. Those are the best.
Also, for the ladies, Shaun Evans is a cutie ginger.
