*opens TARDIS doors* Ah, January 2010. Good month. Good year. Just wait until you see...hang on a moment...it's July? I've been gone six months? How did that happen?
Well, I hope to be back now. Hello to old DbyAers and new.
So...Moffat era. Well, for me, it's been everything I've wanted from Doctor Who and more. Eleven is my new favorite Doctor, Amy is climbing up the list of my favorite companions, Rory is cool, and River Song > everyone. I was lucky enough to meet Matt Smith and sort-of meet Karen Gillan (as in, I was a couple feet away from her) when they came to NY a few months ago. Very awesome.
Anyway, how has everyone been? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Series 5 as well.

Eleven is definitely vying for my favourites slot as well... was NOT expecting that to happen. I'm not sure if it's the drunk giraffe run, the bowtie, the talky-hands or the gratuitous shirtlessness... but um... yes.
...and you met? THE JEALOUSY!
but more importantly-
WELCOME BACK!!!!!
we were wondering where you went.

Welcome back! Hope your travels through time and space have been good to you since last you were here.
Regarding Eleven, S5, Moff Tiem etc... Well, I liked it. Liked it a LOT. I'm not quite as taken with River as a permanent addition as some people, but I thought both the stories she was in were excellent. The weakest story of the season for me was the Chris Chibnall 2-parter with the *Silurians* - loved everything else. Well, the Churchill/Daleks ep was probably the next weakest, and the Venice one too, but the Venice one had the advantage of being hilariously funny and that makes up for a lot. Everything else though - LOVED. Couldn't say what my favourite one was...possibly Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone or Amy's Choice...possibly... But yes, Eleven was awesome, Amy was very good indeed (I think a lot of the haters there didn't really get what a subtle characterisation she was - a girl with "issues", but handled in a very realistic non-TV sort of way). And Rory - what a guy! I thought the ending of The Big Bang was perfect and cannot wait to see what happens to them next.
So, yeah, enough gushing from me, but without wanting to exaggerate I think this season kind of saved NuWho for me after the twin crushing disappointments of Journey's End and The End of Time. Your mileage, of course, as they say on the intrawebs, may vary.

Thanks guys. My drifting away was not on purpose, I swear. It just sort of happened. But I'm glad I decided to drift back.
I can't say that liking Eleven was completely unexpected, (though I want to say it was, so I can say "I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS!") since I've always enjoyed Moffat's episodes and I had a lot of trust in him. Still, I wasn't entirely pleased with his casting when I first heard about it.
I gradually started to get more confident as new details emerged, like his outfit, the VoV clip that was released, and him saying that his favorite Doctor was Two. But I didn't count on loving him this much. He's utterly believable as a 900 year old alien and he reminds me of all the other Doctors, sometimes all at once. As someone who never quite warmed to Ten, being able to like the Doctor again is such a relief. I would say more about the episodes but...JJ kinda summed it up for me actually.
Now just the long wait until SJA and Christmas. Is this how time normally passes? Really slowly...in the right order?

I'm dead chuffed to have you back among the fold, Foreman, and (admittedly) glad to no longer be one of the only TWO pro-River members on DbA, since there are three of us now we can form a club!

Welcome back! I'm new, so nice to meet you! I'm a River fan, too. I've only seen one episode with her (Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone), but she seems really awesome. You can add me down for the fan count.

Hurrah, River fan club! Where we can make our own TARDIS journals and do things in a non-linear fashion.

Hurrah, River fan club! Where we can make our own TARDIS journals and do things in a non-linear fashion. *Is somewhat embarrassed to admit that she purchased a TARDIS journal just like River's on Etsy.* I haven't written in it yet . . . I just pet it, and stroke it, and call it George. I write River stories; I've liked the character since the Library episodes. I covet Merry's banner. I may need a support group.

The River fans are taking over the forum! But yes, IM; I was wanting Smith to be good, but I didn't know what he'd be like until the spoiler clip and not really until The Eleventh Hour... And he just clicked for me immediately! I am now a shameless squeeing Eleven fanboy! ;D I hope these rumours that he might be leaving after S6 don't turn out to be true...but even if they do, if Smith's casting proves anything it's that you should always give the new guy a chance because he could surprise you. (I know I don't have to say this to any of you people here, but some of the hardcore Ten-fans on some of the less reasonable parts of the internets seem to have trouble with the concept of change and renewal in Who... )

Ah, yes, I recall you mentioning that journal before. I think it sounds quite cool, but then I do have a Journal of Impossible Things. I liked River in the Library episodes well enough and shipped her with the Doctor (which isn't saying much, I ship a lot of people with him), but it wasn't until S5 that my real fannishness emerged. It's funny, cause I suspect that if you search this forum you can find an old post from me going "I thought the point of River was for her only to appear once", or something along those lines. Good to be proven wrong. I hope these rumours that he might be leaving after S6 don't turn out to be true...but even if they do, if Smith's casting proves anything it's that you should always give the new guy a chance because he could surprise you. That said...Matt Smith had better stay for a good while. Um. Oh dear, am I becoming one of Those People? Supposedly he signed a three-year contract with the option of two more years, so that would mean at least until S7. Five years of Eleven would be nice.

LOL, yeah, he'd better! ;D
I would never presume to say who was a "true fan" and Who wasn't, because down that path lies madness, and flaming, but yeah...Those People...they are about, as we were discussing on DW Live last night...
It's interesting (although not in the least bit surprising, considering that it's "The Scum") that the newspaper that the Telegraph says ran the story on Smith's three-year contract is the same one that is now claiming he's going to leave after two years... They literally just make this stuff up, don't they?
