Newton started a thread on this, but I mainly wanted to start a thread entitled "Hartnell Crushes America Mercilessly Underfoot", and I came very close to achieving my goal. (I shortened it so it would fit.)
I didn't know William Hartnell was in The Mouse That Roared! He was Peter Sellers' second-in-command when the Duchy of Grand Fenwick defeated America when it wasn't looking. This was a lot of fun for me as a kid, and it cheered me up just now too. I LOLed especially when the nuclear bomb seems as if it might go off, because they're shaking it up quite a bit, what with the rocky car ride... it makes an alarming noise, then.... a mushroom cloud! Then the announcer states calmly that the makers of the film just wanted to show us what might happen if things do go wrong, and also they wanted to put us 'in the mood'! Big undignified guffaws from me.

Though I've never seen the movie (TV show?) that you're talking about, I must say that this is the best thread name I've seen in a looong time.

I was absolutely convinced that this was from 1966, but apparently it's from 1959. I must have just seen it on TV. I had no idea it was made in the 50s just by looking at it. Maybe this is one of those bits of culture that helped create the 60s as we know them. Peter Sellers was in movies in the 50s? His first maybe? Apart from some low budget Goons thing I saw once...? www.imdb.com/title/tt0053084/It's a classic comedy film.

Was he really?? I loved that show - haven't seen it in years and years, definitely need to go find it again now. Weirdly enough, I was just telling my kids about the general plotline of this book/film a couple weeks ago - it must be fate!

Yes, this is a wonderfully named thread. We should keep it going as long as possible even if we have to go wildly off topic (shouldn't be too hard). I've never heard of this film, but yes, Peter Sellers was making films in the 50s. I can't remember what year it was, but he must have made I'm All Right, Jack round about a similar time. Of course, checking on the net would answer the q, but where's the fun in being obvious? I've never seen this but now I want related-fic. Please! Primsong? Magnus? (That was my innocent smile. I batted my eyelashes too, but there isn't a smiley for that.) Anything that has the First Doctor accidentally causing America any sort of major trouble (well, any country, really), would amuse him so very much, I want fic. Preferably with Vicki involved (a la their shared glee at being the accidental cause of the Great Fire of Rome, the wicked pair).

There is this moment when the invasion party is sailing into New York harbor, and one of them points at the Empire State Building and claims it 'cause he saw it first. Hartnell was there of course in The Chase.... crossover opportunity?
