I just found this, and I think it is very fun. It has clips of the sonic screwdriver being used, and a running total on the side of the Doctors and companions who used it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFgr-tjKLaI

This, together with Ten's penchant for "I'm sorry, I'm SO sorry" (and have you seen that vid? 140-something sorries in under 40 episodes... what's the math on THAT?!?!) but anyways yes, these two things form the basis for the Tenth Doctor drinking game, which I vote that we should all play (probably with orange juice) if ever this DbyA convention materializes.

Very interesting video. I've been enjoying several of this vidders mashups. I'm liking his/her style! Still, I wish they could have made mention of One mentioning the sonic screwdriver, but I suppose since it is only a mention and not seen on scene it is hard to include it.

One mentions the sonic? Is it in the Five Doctors?

One mentions the sonic? Is it in the Five Doctors? I don't know if he mentions it in The Five Doctors, but I know he mentions it off-handedly to Vici in the episode The Chase. He says something along the lines of asking her to retrieve it for him, while they are running from the Daleks.

I've not seen The Chase (2 Entertain, why is it not out on DVD - I want it! I wants it badly!), but I always understood the first mention of the sonic screwdriver was the Second Doctor talking to Victoria in Fury From the Deep, so I will watch The Chase with even more interest. When the BBC finally let me have it.
Sounds like a fun vid - I'll have to go and look!

Love it! And I hadn't realised that Six ever used it. I'm miffed now I was writing a UNIT story with him in and letting him have all the UNIT era cliches, but held back from the sonic screwdriver because I knew he didn't have one between The Visitation and the TV Movie... and I was wrong! He could have had it. I was thinking Six would have liked playing with the sonic screwdriver, too. Now I also need to go watch Attack of the Cybermen. (How did that get through with both JNT and Eric Saward still on watch - one of them writing the ep???) *goes off to sulk*

I love the little tally on the side for how many times each person used it.
It needs little "ding!" sound effects for each one.
And a separate, coded tally of the number of teas consumed on camera throughout each era.

I don't know if he mentions it in The Five Doctors, but I know he mentions it off-handedly to Vici in the episode The Chase. He says something along the lines of asking her to retrieve it for him, while they are running from the Daleks. In the transcript he just refers to a screwdriver, though part 1 has a 'sonic rectifier'. In some of Terrance Dicks's novelisations, the Doctor uses the sonic where, on TV, he didn't -- for example, The Faceless Ones and The Space Pirates.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall Seven used a sonci screwdriver at some point in his run as well. I can't remember what episode it was in, but I recall him opening something with it... I think. I believe at one point he does just refer to it as 'the screwdriver'... and as you mention there are already sonic devices brought up in the series by that point, so it is possible I inferred that he meant the sonic screwdriver... and since Three referred to the sonic screwdriver as part of a kit in the TARDIS and other TIme Lords seemed to have their own sonic screwdriver... I assumed it must be the one. And why not... for all we know it was the plot seed for later. If you want to think more fanon... perhaps prior to his Second self, the Doctor still had the more basic version of the Time Lord screwdriver, which wasn't as useful as his later incarnations found. Because, let's face it, One wasn't the tool type as Three and Ten seem to be. In fact, I could see the Doctor some time between One and Two or perhaps not until Three beginning to add more settings to that basic sonic screwdriver. *feeds plot!carrots to everyone's plot bunnies*
