For seven months i went a long volunteer trip to Ukraine and British Columbia. I brought the Doctor. Though we did alot together, I don't have many pictures of him. I do have piles of random pictures of my trip and really need to delete some of them.
So here is Nine in Ukraine.
At the airport, waiting to load to plane.
In front of the most famous Ukrainian poet and a French Canadian. Can you guess which one is which?
Nine, chilling with Pusska. She was great.
Nine in front of a church. Ukraine did not have a limited supply of Church's.
He was on top of huge hill, which layed a church and a building that has lots of history and importance. It even had monks. The Church was one of three places that Orthodox Ukrainians make pilgrimage too. Nine is front of the town below. My favourite part of church (or was it at the other major important church/pilgrimage, I went to two of three.) had a super small hole and a very small cave where you had walk a bit and then in certain spot you had to make a prayer and/or wish. Then you had to get out of the really small hole, if you struggled to get out, it meant you have sinned but i think there was possibility to redeem yourself. If you got stuck, well, that was God way of saying you are going to hell, or its time to lose weight. Either way, you should listen.
Nine in front of some saints. Speaking of Saints, there are like 28047809503 billion of them in Orthodox Ukrainian and each of them has a Holiday, or well the most important ones. So like ever week i would go around to old peoples houses (most ladies) and do house work, but since there was always some sort of holiday for a saint, they wouldn't give us work because you weren't allowed to work on those days. They also would have funerals for these saints, which i have pictures and people would honestly cry and cry.
This is Anton, he is Ukrainian (well he says he's Russian, lets not get into that debate). Yeah... so the two are top of a stove, a really old stove.
Don't ask.
River.
First snow fall. Funny thing, I arrived in August in one of Ukraine's worst heat waves, we had to drive 6 hours to the town we were staying in. when I left the town for Kiev, Ukraine was in the middle of a horrible horrible winter storm which i have picture of. Both bus rides were extreme and not so pleasant. Well bus ride two had some weird Russian cartoon which i am still looking for today. i think they were Russian.
These are evil weeds in which many old ladies made me pick so help clean up their gardens which grew veggies and most of their meals. As you can, Nine is lost.
He helped pick weeds with my work counter partner, we showed those weeds who ran the town. It felt soo good after i would be done. I have before and after pictures.
On top of castle wall, looking onto the town i lived in. wonderful place it was.
Now Nine shows how to make potato pancakes.
First you shred the those potato's.
Then you mixed it with stuff. Like flour.
Then you frayed them. Don't forget to flip them
then you NOM NOM NOM them with sour cream. Sour cream is not the sour cream we have in north America.
After 3 and a half months in Ukraine, we wondered off to Sooke, BC, Canada.
I didn't take many pictures with Nine in them (he isn't in much of my Ukrainian ones either).
The pictures with Nine are with children I worked with. I don't I should be posting their pictures. No matter how badly I want to. So instead I will should you a picture of Nine in a dress and his date with Barbie.
I have another one with him in white shirt and black skirt that was very very short.
Why not post it anyway. So the skirt isn't short on him, it was super short on Barbie.
The sun glasses, it works so well.
Doctor and Barbie on their date. They had a great time.
Here are some random pictures that for some reason I had uploaded on my photo bucket in the past.
Some random Ukrainian guy joined us for a game of hacky
sake.
The day we left the town we stayed in for Kiev, we were in that awful snow storm. We had to be at the bus by like 7:00am or something. So I walked to the bus stop and took pictures of the snow as i went along. This poor dude had his car stuck.
Forgot what that was.
the Church that Nine was in front of. Can you find a dancing dude?
Now we end this really long post with TIN TITS!
THE TIN LADY WILL PROTECT US ALL FROM EVIL.
FOR THE PEOPLE, FOR THE GLORIES GOVERNMENT, FOR THE FUTURE!!!!
p.s. If you are ever in Kiev, please check out the war museum, one of the few places you got a real USSR feel. The Russian propaganda music playing none stop, the stone statues of warriors and people fighting evil, the tanks and helicopters.
Not to mention the messed up stuff the Nazis did.
I can write another post about that museum. Don't be shy with the fact that everything was in Russian and/or Ukrainian. I had a good idea what was going on.
