If you were on the proverbial deserted island and could only have one episode starring Patrick Troughton, which would you choose, and why?
I haven't seen any of his regular episodes yet, so any advice on which ones to see first would be appreciated.

Much as I love Benton and the Brig, I've got to say The Mind Robber; the crazy LSD acid trip crackiness of it never gets old. Unicorns! Fake!Jamie!! The Master!!! (only sort of though)
That said, if you could give me a magically restored Evil of the daleks I might just choose that instead.
Poor burninated episodes. WHY CAN I NOT MIRACULOUSLY FIND YOU AT A GARAGE SALE?!??

The War Games; the very last one, and a very long one as well, but I love all of the soldiers from the different time periods (even if the baddies' plan doesn't really seem all that great), and the sort of proto-Master in the form of the War Chief. And we get to see the Time Lords for the very first time, and they're pretty sinister and scary if you've only ever seen the post-Deadly Assassin backstabbing academics version. They're the Time Lords I imagine when I'm writing fic. Oh, oh, and the Warlord is none other than Mehendri Solon (also the U-boat captain in that episode of Dad's Army!) in really, really thick glasses...

Ep 1 of Mind Robber, except you want more to watch on your desert island, so War Games obviously. The other possibility is Tomb of the Cybermen, but that's all. That last season of Troughton always feels like bad 50s sci-fi B-movies to me, most of it, and this was 1969. Robert Holmes wasn't even good yet. In my opinion.

I find Troughton a really engaging, watchable sort of actor, though, whatever he's doing, and that counts for a lot of my enjoyment; love the chemistry between him and his various companions too, especially Jamie (and no, I wasn't meaning in a slashy/shippy way, if anyone asks). Tomb of the Cybermen is another good one, actually; the stillness of the Cybermen, their expressionless faces combined with the artificial, electronic voices... They lost so much when they went into colour, and I don't know if that's because the black-and-white masked some of the cheapness of the effects, made them scary rather than silly, or if it's because they didn't write them as well in the later stories.

I had that response to early Cybermen when I finally saw what exists of Tenth Planet, a couple of years ago. Even the cheap look worked for me, when I stopped to think that Cybermen are SO unlike us that they just wouldn't give a damn what they looked like. No one's sitting around coming up with artistic looks for Cybermen on a planet of people who had to make themselves cyborgs to survive the deadly dark and cold of interstellar space. They wouldn't care that their faces are just metallic fabric, perhaps stretched over what remains of skulls. Then the absolutely totally electronic voices on top of all that.....
Still, my Cybermen are the later ones, since they were first for me, and they may be less creepy, but they're more fun.

It would probably be a toss up between the The Mind Robber and The War Games for me, although the latter might get depressing if you were all alone on a desert island. I wish they'd animate more of the missing eps like they did with the Invasion. I wouldn't say no to more Ben n' Polly.

Mine would be either The War Games, The Mind Robber or The Invasion
