Dear Christopher Eccleston
After finishing The Secound Coming, you have officially have won me over. I am sold.
Steven would so someone I would be into in real life so that helped a great deal. I also had a look at you ... idk, you become more and more pretty. When I was trying to find photos of you as a child (Don't ask) I found some paparazzi picture and BANG, I had fallen in love with you.
I don't know what it about you ... I have seen you many times before and didn't think twice. Maybe because I am not too found of your Doctor. Once I watched you other work I just grew to love you. I ... er.... really don't know how you do it.
Anyway, I can't wait to watch your old and new work. Keep on acting!
Newton
Dear RTD
You have made me fall love with TWO actors now. Good job.
Fan of your work that isn't just Doctor Who Newton

Well, I've finished up the entire First season, and was a little disappointed in the solution to the "Bad Wolf" words showing up... However, I see it as a protype for other continuing puzzles or threads running through future arcs.
I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on WHY Christopher Eccleston left the series. Was he asked to leave? Contract not renewed? Or was it his decision to leave? Anyone got the inside story?
I'm going to miss his goofy face... and Rose has improved a good deal.

He only signed a one year contract and choose not to renew. In fact, his decision to leave was announced half-way through the series, which kind of spoiled the whole regeneration shock at the end (unless, like me, you weren't on line and had no clue the Doctor could do that and then he exploded). Though, Tennant's first few episodes were all apparently written with Eccls in mind, so they did want him on set longer.
As for WHY he left, well, that is the great mystery. It has been bandied around that he did actually quit. According to some sources the shooting schedule (which is mostly at night from what I understand) was causing way too much stress and ruining his health. From other sources he was made very uncomfortable by the fan base. From other sources he had a bad disagreement with someone on set. It's probably a combination of the three, but we'll never know. Whatever it was, he's made it clear that he's not coming back. I too miss his big goofy face.
The end solution to Bad Wolf is a big old cheese ball isn't it? Don't worry, those words get even more cheesy and nonsensical as time goes on, but it's all part of the fun. I love that scene when Jack's all "how long will this take?" and the Doctor's all "five hours" and Jack's all "and how long do we have?" and the Doctor's all "about five and a half minutes?" and pulls up some wires with a hopefully look. Gets me every time.

I remember my reaction to it on first broadcast. To be fair, the whole 'arc words' thing was a delightful novelty to the fandom, and there was a head of steam built up behind it that no possible revelation could hope to match. But cutting it all sorts of slack in that regard, it was still a letdown that there was no meaning whatsoever behind the phrase, and no connection to badness or wolves. Depending on what happened to be in Rose's line of sight, it could just as easily have been 'Arabella Phlatcrock and Partners', 'Megadodo Publications' or 'Guttergorm Guttergormpton'.

I searched on-line for a scrambled word assistance program, and plugged in "Doctor Who" and it spit back "Torchwood". So I plugged in "Bad Wolf" and you know what it came back with... "Bad Wolf".
I was so impresssed......NOT!

Wow, I now vaguely remember hearing that Torchwood was an anagram of Doctor who, and not quite believing it... But wow. That makes a rather bizarre parallel between the two shows...

Regarding why Eccleston left, somebody on Livejournal linked to this, which I found very interesting. Seems all was not sweetness and light in the house of Rusty. Or maybe he's talking about that director (whose name escapes me) that he supposedly had bust-ups with (warning for slightly salty language from old Eccles): badwilf.co.uk/?p=820Anyway, an insight.

That's the confirmation then. I think it was very classy of him to wait until the old production team was gone instead of selling this stuff to the tabloids right out of the gate. The bit about the props made me raise an eyebrow because I remember something in the Tenant video diaries where he was talking about the awful conditions the non-union extras and stunt people had to put up with.

Certainly, in that interview Eccles comes across to me as a very principled man who was prepared to put his beliefs before his own wealth and/or fame. So good for him, is all I can say. I already knew he was a very classy actor, but now I'm prepared to believe he's a very classy human being too.

Agreed...I give him credit for holding off on his comments until the old production crew, director, and regime was gone before letting loose. That shows a bit more class and integrity which makes me trust what he says a bit more than if he had blasted off his head to the press immediately after the split. I did like some of his work, and he finished up a lot more different that I would have expected from the few publicity photos of him that I had seen. But I'm falling for David Tennant the more I get to see and hear him... post Rose and as we start his news companion.

Oh, I'd definitely agree that Tennant has a lot to recommend him. As churlish as I occasionally am about his tenure as Doctor, I can appreciate absolutely his ability as an actor and as an ambassador for Doctor Who. He's alright, that Davy Tennant is, in my eyes. ;D On the other hand, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Eccleston. Not just in Doctor Who but as an actor in general. If you ever get a chance, watch a film called "Let Him Have It" and be prepared to weep like a baby while simultaneously paying homage to Eccles the actor. And the more I rewatch Nine-era Who the more it grows on me and the more I think that Nine ending when he did was a great loss to the show... But certainly, Eccleston shows a lot of class in what he says and when he chose to say it.
Now, if only it turned out he supported Man City or one of those other teams rather than Man Utd - then I could truly admire him... ;D

CE's comments were too vague for me to have any opinion on them. One thing I've heard: supposedly he announced to RTD that he was quitting after one year during the filming of "Rose". He supposedly talked about not wanting to be typecast. Anyway, I wouldn't think it would take all that much integrity not to sell one's story to the tabloids. And again, yet another DW participant announces that DW is for children...
