I've been rewatching series one and it's a lot of fun, even the episodes that I don't remember liking much. Maybe it's nostalgia for RTD or something, but I was watching Aliens of London/World War Three and actually ended up sort of liking the Slitheen! Plus, they kept having good quotes. "Victory should be naked!"
So now I feel bad for going along with fandom and vilifying the Slitheen episodes.

I've been meaning to go through a big rewatch of S1 as well. It's been so long since I last saw them. I wonder if I'd get all Nine/Rose shippy again, heh.
I have to say that I greatly dislike the Slitheen. Like to maybe almost a slightly crazy "it's just a TV show" level but I'm, um, not a fan of the fart joke. I have no qualms with silliness, but there's intelligent silliness, and then there's just insulting silliness.
It also bothers me how they're portrayed by overweight people. I know they make up some explanation for that (been so long since I've seen the episodes that I can't remember what it was) but the underlying message seems to be saying that fat people are gross and they fart a lot.
One more thing, is "Raxacoricofallapatorius" that difficult to say? I've never had any problem with it. Spelling it, on the other hand....

The Slitheen episodes weren't my favorite by far but I didn't dislike them. I liked the story. Don't know if the Slitheen deserved a two parter...well, neither did the Daleks in Season 3...but that's a different story all together. The only problem I had with the Slitheen is that they played on the farting thing a bit too much. Bleh. It became a bit awkward after awhile.
My favorite scene is when Harriet Jones and Rose are helping The Doctor narrow down who the Slitheen were. One of the big moments that made me fall in love with Doctor Who.
I do agree with IMForeman a bit though. That they only casted overweight people to portray the Slitheen was a bit much. I wouldn't mind so much if they made it a habit of casting overweight people in normal rolls as well. But this is television, I guess.

Between the Slitheen episodes and the Adipose one, a person might start to wonder about RTD...
That aside, the Slitheen eppies aren't my favourites from that season by a long shot, but they're entertaining, CE has some amusing one-liners, Harriet Jones is win, and Mickey gets to save the world.
Also, re-watching them gives me nostalgia for that whole 'hidden weapons of mass destruction' thing that was all over the news when it aired.
Re-watching also showed me how the Doctor escaped from that evil-killee-die-die name tag thingy; that bit of pre-credit sequence was edited out the first time I watched, and as a result I was very, very confused.

I greatly dislike the Slitheen, I am all for absurdity, if it is actual absurdity, however, the Slitheen were just frat-boy humor. *shudders* I've many gay friends, and Quincy actually insists RTD is straight as no self-respecting gay man would include fart jokes, he INSISTS this a straight thing, lol. I defer to his wisdom *winks* (no offense to our guy DbA-ers, I'm sure you are all perfectly wonderful men of whatever notion).
I STILL defend the dalek two parter in series three, I think tis WIN! But these two episodes bothered me, greatly, yes, Harriet (sp? e or o?) Jones is awesome, as are some of the lines, but by and large it was just a ridiculous let-down, although1 I LOVE that Jackie featured so prominently. (I loooove Jackie I wish she was stalking ten instead of Rose, a whole different JE< can you imagine???)

I've many gay friends, and Quincy actually insists RTD is straight as no self-respecting gay man would include fart jokes, he INSISTS this a straight thing, lol. Here's an excellent all-inclusive statement that covers all humans, even if I do say so myself, which I do... no person on Earth can justifiably speak for any group. The moment that any person says that all humans in this or that category (in this case, gays) are a certain way, because of this or that group she/he is supposed to be a part of, that's when I want some great force to sweep such people aside, or at the very least give them less press time. Every time a human being acts unpredictably, and speaks or behaves in a way that society says he's not supposed to, or not expected to, I gain a little more optimism. And those cultural cliches are crap, so maybe there's hope after all.
