I think this is Who-related because it features Mr Tennant, but please Kit feel free to sling it into the wastelands of off-topicality if you want. My first thought on reading this: "Well, that's one way of getting into the acting business..."; however, then I felt a bit guilty for thinking that: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/arts_and_culture/7749962.stmMore considered thoughts; on the one hand, I felt really sorry for the pianist guy, because I've had family members who've gone the same way; on the other hand, I'm kind of glad that his last wish (even if it was a slightly unconventional one) has been honoured, eventually. On the third (?!) hand; Davy Tennant's made of sterner stuff than I am.

pish-tish, I play with skulls all the time. What is creepy is the baby's skeleton in the university's bone room. THAT thing just gives me the shivers.
And good job that Andre is finally getting his last request granted.
Also, bonus points to Jjpor for the clever thread name XD

Haha, I didn't even catch the clever tongue-in-cheek title until Clocket pointed it out. Good show! I agree with Clocket, though, while interesting, I don't think it'd be odd at all to act with a real skull. Perhaps, a corpse would freak me out a bit, perhaps not; but a skull just wouldn't do the trick. I'm glad the man's final wish was granted too!

"I thought it would topple the play and it would be all about David acting with a real skull."
Um, this play wasn't about Hamlet, it was about David. Seriously, the only reason why it was sold so fast is because a bunch of girls begged their parents to buy them tickets for like 3 nights. They used the "But it's theatre and Shakespeare. It's is educational!!!" PEOPLE IN THE USA FLEW TO LONDON TO SEE HIM.
Should have added the skull story before it opened, would have made this whole Hamlet hype funnier.

I wish we had a real skull in OUR plays. We always have to make the ones we use out of styrofoam or plaster... or we buy them out of Haloween costumes stores. I applaud David for being the first actor having balls enough to use it. XD

I have used real skulls in acting before.... it wasn't human, but it was still real. I haven't had the opportunity to use a real one. We have no such thing where I live. Congrats to David for granting the old guy's wish.

This article was happy, and yet... so disturbing. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable handling the remains of a real human being. Both because it's rather nasty, and also because I fear I'd do something stupid like drop it and break it or some such thing.

Ditto I wouldn't fear that I do something like that. I KNOW that I would. On the other hand... human remains are cool. I'd love to use a real skull in a play.

We actually talked about this in my Culture and Mortality course. The prof asked us if we'd seen anything related to death in the previous week, and I was like... "well..."
it sparked a good discussion.
Really though, I don't think it's that creepy, but then, I'm constantly playing with the skulls of dead people and homonids, not so much as my friend though. She's specializing in osteology... she REALLY spends a lot of time playing with bones.
What's actually creepy is the discovery that a prof I had last year apparently recently told his class that he wanted them to give him road kill for Christmas so he could deflesh it and mount the skeletons. Um... yuck.

Odd... who would want roadkill for Christmas? I can touch human bones and such, but not the actual (dead) flesh. I did that once by accident while putting flowers in my grandma's coffin. It was just the shock of her being so cold that freaked me out. Not something I would like to repeat. Bones are fine. Flesh is icky.

I get very jumpy around bodies. I'm not a death-person. Oh! does he want a specific kind of roadkill? We have all varieties out here.

he wants roadkill of all sorts... and dead pets too I think, and the quote I heard was "I don't care if it's rotting or has maggots - that's just less work for me"
he's a very odd man. a world expert on Neanderthals apparently.
in lectures he often remarks that:
"This is a ranked society we live in, and it's ascribed statues, not achieved like everyone thinks. You know how I know this? I know this because I can't become the Queen of England!"
** note, this professor is French
a very odd man

Everytime I see the word Neanderthals , I think it says Netherlands. I mean, it is the same letters with an extra A.

I can see that he is odd. Who would want there pet, that they loved, on display in a classroom?
Would you like a goose. There is a dead one at a local park, by a large pond. How about a seagull? Or a turtle?
What if someone gives him a animal that you need a permit for, like an eagle, or a hawk. Those get hit by cars too.

I have a question, Newton. Why do people from that area call it "Holland" or "The Netherlands", but refer to themselves as "Dutch"? It took me years to figure out they were all related.

We call our selfs Nederlanders. Our Country is The Netherlands. Holland are two provences, North Holland and South Holland. Westerners thought Holland was our name of our country. They also thought it would be fun to call us Dutch, and Germans well Germans, even though they call them selfs Deutsch. Or they mixed us up and thought we were all the same. I don't know the real reason why we're called Dutch in English, but I figure it has something to do with west "F"ing around.
