This is exactly the sort of thing that you expect him to sort out - UNIT have already given up and gone home: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7600126.stmSeriously, though - this Monstrosity From The Void has invaded my hometown for the weekend - I went down to see it on my lunchtime today, and hopefully will go to town to see it again tomorrow - here's hoping the rain goes off. I think it's ace.

Wow... That's... Wow... It's snowing in Liverpool??? In August? Though, on topic, that is rather seriously creepy and seriously cool. I think the spinning trees are slightly more trippy though.

It's snowing in Liverpool??? In August? LOL - not quite! Although, the rain has been p---ing down all week, so not far off. The snow's fake - it's part of the whole event/performance/happening/whatever. Apparently, there's supposed to be a story to the spider's progress around the city, but I suspect it only makes sense to the French art collective who are behind it; they're known as La Machine, and were responsible for something similar involving a giant mechanical elephant in London a year or two ago. The beast itself is very, very impressive, though. Those trees look cool - I'm going to have to find out where they are and go and check them out too. In those videos, you get a nice cross-section of authentic Lpool "types" as well; best city in the world, I tells you! ;D

That has got to be... in all seriousness... the coolest thing I've seen all year. Why do the Liverpoolians have all the fun? Why do THEY get all the giant arachnids roaming their streets? It's not fair, I tell you. I want a hellishly large arachnid roaming my streets too.

That was great - loved the little dance moves he did, as well! Useless fact - do you know that African Grey Parrots are supposed to be among the most intelligent animals alive today? Apparently, in IQ tests, they score right up there with chimps and dolphins - weird, huh?

I want a hellishly large arachnid roaming my streets too. Well, we all do, let's face it, but the last time I brought it up with the city council here, they went with filling in potholes instead and had me escorted out as they say. They're only forcing me to genetically engineer my own giant spider without city approval, I hope they realize that.

They're only forcing me to genetically engineer my own giant spider without city approval, I hope they realize that. At this point, it's traditional for any would-be arachnid-of-unusual-size-producer to add something like: "Fools! Fools!! I'll show them all!!!" or "Nozink in ze vorld can stop me now!!!" You also need to hire an insane and/or deformed lab assistant; it's union regs, I'm afraid.

So... is there a deformed lab assistant rental facility that I can go to... or should I ask around?

So... is there a deformed lab assistant rental facility that I can go to... or should I ask around? I think there are quite a few agencies that specialise in this field - I always use "Igors-R-Us" - tell 'em I sent you :-)

To resurrect a very old thread... Once again, this past weekend, giants walked the streets of Liverpool: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17762154 www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-17777090 I only saw the "uncle" on the Friday night as I was getting out of work, but it was certainly an impressive sight. Anyway, it made me think of the spider thing and the time I posted that on here. ;D Turns out that the giants and the London elephant extravaganza were actually the work of another company, the rivals of La Machine, the group who did the spider. For some reason I find it deeply cool that there are not one, but two collections of people out there doing this kind of stuff...

I told my friends about the giant spider and they all announced that they want to move to Liverpool now, even the arachnophobia ones like me were enthralled.

Cooool. My town is exceptionally boring even for boring towns, I have now concluded that. This was very funky to read about, must have been even better to see.

It was the kind of thing you don't see every day. Personally, I was more impressed by the spider, but that may be my Who fan's prejudice. Wasn't a radioactive spider or anything like that, fortunately.

You're standing on the terrifying precipice of post #3000, Jjpor. So anyway... how will Liverpool be able to tell when the real giant little girls and giant spiders and giant turn-of-the-century deep-sea-diving uncles invade?
