I am used to saying I'm new to the fandom and really, it's only been a year. But it's been a LONG year, in which I've explored all of new and classic who (including Big Finish, which I consider canon) and I find it makes me very out of place on every forum/fan site I've been on. I'm new, but I'm more "educated" than many fans, and I've not quite gotten the hang of how much of that to hide so as not to put people off. At this point, I consider myself a classic fan (particularly in love with 8) who dabbles in new. I'm a writer, and I'm halfway through a series of 7 books for Doctor Who. I also have other books on the side that I would like to explore but without cowriters, DW-interested friends, or responsive readers, just can't find the inspiration anymore. Hopefully I'll find it again if I just look hard enough. This fandom is so large and so cliquish, I haven't really been able to connect with anyone in spite of countless hours of emailing and perusing and posting and reading/reviewing. I literally went down the list of writers in alphabetical order on fanfiction.net looking for other people who are still active and involved in Classic, and someone was kind enough to respond that they were no longer active but I should try here. So here I am, trying another site. I have faith that once I find a "home", or even just a friend or two, I will really love the Doctor Who fandom - not just the canon. Perhaps I will find that here. It's worth a shot. -Fig

Hello, you who call yourself Fig! I'm Cadet. I've been into Who for over a year niw, but going by what you said, you probably know more than me, seeing as I am Classically-challenged. I write as well, but generally only oneshots for DW. My novels are all just original. So yeah....and I think you'll find a place here. Hope you do, anyway!
So I'll quit talking now and end with saying welcome to Death By Aspirin!

Salutations, Fig - we're pleased to have you here! Sounds like you're among friends indeed, though we're a bit sleepy at the moment, the activity here comes and goes depending on various people's schedules. Classic Who is definitely appreciated here, and we love all the Doctors. My personal faves are the first four, with Three generally at the head of the pack closely followed by Two and One. Jogging along a pace or so behind them comes Four with Seven hooking that famous Scarf with the hook of his brolly, then the Oncoming Beige of Fivey. Even Six gets his moments in the sun. I would love to have a chance at hearing more of Eight's audios but haven't been able to yet, so he's the least 'filled out' for me, and while I like Nine, I must admit to a mixed reaction regarding Emo Ten.. but so it goes!
Anyway... lots of writers here as well, and do feel free to graze among the various topics and/or start your own regarding any of them.

lol I watched the movie with Eight and was so disgusted I almost gave up on Classic right then and there. But I had a friend who was a come-and-go fan and told me he wasn't speaking to me again until I listened to at least 3 of Eight's audio dramas. It took me five minutes of Terror Firma - listening to him mock the Daleks - to fall in love. He's now at the top of my list, which is a bit frustrating when so few people even know who he is. I say Eight and people think of the movie... and that's SO not what I mean. Among the others, I really don't have a favorite... I like them all for different reasons. Three's interactions with the Master, the psychological CONFUSION that is Five. Seven reminds me of a character of mine in my last fandom, so he's very comfortable for me. Four makes me laugh. I have issues with Six (I think I've dated one too many guys like him... lol) but in the audios he's better imo. Thank you both for the warm welcome. It's nice to be greeted for once! lol -Fig

Hello and welcome. Glad to see another Classic fan here. My personal favourite is Four, followed by One and Seven in a shared second place. And lookit that, my 1000th post.

Hello, Fig! If you're looking for Classic Who fans (especially those who write good fanfic) you are in the right place. It's always wonderful to have a new person join and you'll fit right in at DBA.
Also, as introduction, I'm Primsong's daughter and I hardly ever post but I do a great deal of lurking. So I am likely to see you around but you are far less likely to see me around.

Hello, indeed! I'm also a fan of Eight, though I've only had a chance to hear a few of the audios, I've greatly enjoyed them. I actually have a soft spot in my for the TVM, but I often have a soft spot for terrible movies of that caliber, also Paul McGann is lovely in it despite everything. I'm also a big Five fan, and he's the only classic Dr. I've seen the complete run for. I'm probably a bit more of a NuWho fan, but I do love the classics. Two and three grow on me every time I watch another episode with them. I think you'll fit right in! I hope you enjoy your time with us! ^^

Some. I did all he EDA audiodramas with Lucie (an excellent companion, imo), and all of the BF line with Charley (who rivals and probably even surpasses Rose for the title of "love of the Doctor's lives" - an on-screen "I love you" scene with all the emotion we see in Scherzo... yeah, I think that tops the beach). But I've been scattered to and fro with the books because I take the audio as canon but the books I don't. My thing is, if the original actor is developing their original character (knowing better than anyone who that character is) whether it be a book that they themselves wrote (which hasn't happened yet, to the best of my knowledge) or an on-screen performance or an audio drama, it's canon.

I see your point there. I have also read a fairly sacatterd collection of the books (mostly because I found my enjoyment of them decreased if I tried to read them in order, also they make fairly little sense even in order so I just enjoy them for what they are.) I do have to say though that City of the Dead by Lloyd Rose is one of my favorite books ever. She wrote two of the novels and actually also wrote the audio Caerdroia which you may have listened to.

Welcome, Fig! Sounds like you've gotten a good education in Who, and believe me, you need to hide none of it here. Personally, I'm an Eleven fan, with Two and Four coming in a close second and third. I used to be very familiar with the Big Finish audios, but I've gotten lax in the past year or so and am now quite behind. Although I do have the next Gallifrey series on preorder. I'm thinking from your location that you're in Australia? Well, on here, we have a biweekly watchalong of Doctor Who on Saturday nights. From your time zone, it would be more like Sunday afternoon. So I don't know if it's convenient for you, but if so, please join us! I always love getting new people. Information in the thread here.

She wrote two of the novels and actually also wrote the audio Caerdroia which you may have listened to. LOVE Caerdroia. One of my favorite stories ever! :-D "Cheeky Doctor tricks Kro'ka" is right up there with "angry Doctor fights with Tardis" (Zagreus). :-P I do have the next Gallifrey series on preorder. here. Me too. :-P And the 50th. I ordered that one within 10 minutes of hearing that it was being released. lol PLEASE PLEASE take my money! lol I do "watchalong" sessions with my online cowriter quite frequently. Yes, I'm in Australia (migrated from Oklahoma, originally from Detroit, so I'm very familiar/comfortable with time zone issues lol) and I'll check out the thread. As long as my computer can do it (been having some issues; desperately need to upgrade) and my kids allow it, I'll be there. -Fig
