OK, so I'm between fic projects, and I've got the itch to plunge into something new.
There are a couple of prompts on the memes I'm considering but one of the leaders right now are the prompts about the Doctor developing a fear of falling. I already have a fear of falling, but if I didn't, I'm pretty sure that falling to my death would instill one in me.
Anyway, I'm looking for a bit of help again guys, like I was for my Drowning project. This time I'm looking for instances in which the doctor has been in a particularly high, or precarious place, especially if he's shown any hesitation or made any mention of it.
I'm mostly interested in from Logopolis forward, for obvious reasons, but if anyone knows of anything before that's particularly noteworthy, I'd love to hear about it.
Off the top of my head, all I've really got is Eleven climbing that spire in Vampires of Venice and when the Byzantium gravity shifts and they're all hanging above the crack (although he seems pretty pleased about that at the time.)

This time I'm looking for instances in which the doctor has been in a particularly high, or precarious place, especially if he's shown any hesitation or made any mention of it. There's the infamous cliffhanger of Dragonfire episode 1 ( here). What's supposed to be happening is that the Doctor is walking along a cliff path, finds it blocked, and has to climb down to a lower ledge. Unfortunately the set designers didn't actually block the upper path and the ledge is out of shot, so it looks more like the Doctor randomly deciding to dangle by his brolly over a bottomless chasm.

Yes, it took me until reading the novelisation a few years later to work out exactly what was meant to be going on in that scene.
I've been trying to think of some more examples, but all of the noteworthy examples of people falling off things, or nearly falling off things in extremely overdramatic ways that spring immediately to mind tend to happen to companions in general...and to Sarah Jane Smith in particular, tbh.

I might have missed something... but what obvious reasons?

Logopolis was the serial where Four died falling off a - what was it? - a radio tower? You could include that naff bit from the End of Time where Ten miraculously survives a 10000+ ft fall. Although I'm not sure that's canon (at least it isn't to me).

End of Time is complete crack - but well, yeah...I guess that would work if a person was desperate...
All the instances I can think of are from before Four or at least from before Four's plunge and he didn't seem afraid of heights then... including Four himself in The Deadly Assassin, with that cliff, which unlike poor Seven's attempt really looked like a good cliff-ey cliff.
Fivey, while hesitant towards violence wasn't cowardly - and he didn't seem too freaked about the fall he took off the catwalk in that Silurian ep, he just solidered on in a wet, squishy beige sort of way.... Hm. Yeah, I think it's usually companions who are doing the "yikes, I'm teetering and may fall, but probably not!"

In the spinoffs, there's The Paradise of Death, wherein Three falls off a high tower and survives with his usual aplomb.

This is turning out to be more difficult than I had expected.

There is that bit in The Beast Below where Eleven and Amy fall down that chute thing into the whale's mouth. Although again it's Amy who's freaking out, not the Doctor...

Come to think of it, there's the walk-the-plank sequence in The Pirate Planet. "The theory is very simple. You walk along it. At the end, you fall off. Drop one thousand feet. Dead."

If I write this, I may end up making some very awkward excuses to get around some of these discrepancies... oh well, keep 'em coming as you think of them and I'll look into mashing continuity into compliance with my evil plans.

Speaking of Four, there's that bit in Creature from the Pit, with the...well, pit. And the teach-yourself-Tibetan book.

You know, I've been going through my latest folder of sketches and stuff and just found a list I was compiling at some point last summer of all the times we see the Doctor eat on screen- But I've no idea what I was intending to do with it.

You know, there have been a few people who survived falling out of airplanes by going through windows/trees/miracles on their way down, so it's not completely outside of the realm of possibility... but it still doesn't justify any of the complete crack which was End of Time.
In the TV movie while going off the roof Eight assures Grace that he's absolutely terrified of heights. I've read at least one fic where the Doctor is terrified of heights all the time and avoids them when possible in his day to day life but is just so brave and awesome that he works past the phobia whenever the world is at stake (which does make all those cliff clinging, tower climbing scenes that much more awesome)

Do you remember the name of it Clocket? I think that's rather the route I'll be heading, with the actual fic probably being a big blob of H/C fluff when it finally all gets too much- possibly as a follow up to him climbing the weather tower thing in Vampires of Venice.

I don't, only that it contained Ten and I think it was referencing him climbing the Empire State Building in the Daleks in the NY episode.

Hmmm. I was thinking that I might have read whatever it was but now I'm pretty sure that I haven't. Ah well perhaps we'll never know.
Still mulling the whole thing over, might write something Christmasy first.
On an unrelated note- D-amn but Google's voice typing program is good! I had it type most of the above and the only error it made was a repetition that I'm pretty sure was caused by the echoes of the space I'm in. And oh my god it knows the word Christmasy.

There is a scene during the TV Movie where Eight states he's afraid of heights.

There's a King Kong joke in there somewhere, but I'm not quite finding it right now... Regarding people surviving falling out of planes, this is the example that always used to come up in the "Amazing Facts!" sort of books I occasionally used to read when I were a nipper: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Alkemade
