NuWho at the Zoo: aquabluejay.deviantart.com/#/d56iry7After a very brief discussion, I had no trouble picking animals for the NuWho doctors to be but I think the rest will be a bit more difficult. So I put it to you DbyA'ers, Doctors 1 - 8, what are they? 11 - Baby Giraffe 10 - Otter (actually I think we might be able to come up with something better.) 9 - Badger 8 - ? 7 - ? 6 - ? 5 - ? 4 - ? 3 - ? 2 - ? 1 - ? Go!

Nice!
Hmm...I see Two as a chipmunk, Three as some sort of eagle, Four as a demented stoat chameleon or lemur, and Five as a golden retriever. Will have to think about the others.

Seven's gotta be something sneaky.

I concur on the sneaky/clever aspect for Seven - but somehow a weasel isn't quite right... A fox, maybe?? Hm.
Five is totally a golden retriever, I second that. Eagles are good for Three. What in the world would Six be? Something odd, like a platypus or frigatebird, I think.
One is a puzzle, my elder daughter suggests something of larger rodentia, like a white wild hare. A seal comes to mind for me, perhaps an adult harp or ribbon seal? I also thought of the Emperor Penguin but am afraid it would be confused with Frobisher. If you wanted to go marine mammal all the way, maybe a Narwhale would fit the bill.

I feel bad four five... Golden retriever is such a default answer... I mean it does fit pretty well, but it makes me want to come up with something else.
I'm not gonna lie, we've got a badger and an otter already, frankly as far as being tenacious, a little bit vicious and very squirmy (is that a word? probably not, just go with it.) we could probably just do all the doctors as members of the broader rodent/weasel family. (or just say the doctor in general is a weasel.) I never had much respect for those critters until last summer when I was doing character design for a friend of mine and ended up looking up reference for drawing a weasel as someone's familiar. Dang those things have a vicious bight. Weasel is literally a derivation of (if I'm recalling correctly) and Old English word for vicious.
After that random shot of him eating cheese in the five doctor... (or was that an outtake that didn't make it in, I can't remember) I could definitely see One as a rabbit or something similar, perhaps an Echidna since he's so ancient and sort of prickly. I could see the Seal also...
Not sure about two, I've honestly only really seen in in Tomb of the Cybermen and the Three Doctors, so I don't feel like I have a great feeling for him. I'm trying to recall the name of this one species of bird I recall reading a poem about in elementary school, it was one that could imitate all kinds of sounds, like fire trucks and speech and stuff... I thought it might be appropriate.
I'm in agreement about three being a bird of prey... Perhaps something just a bit fluffier... Er... I mean a little bit more flamboyant... Osprey... I can do better, I'll look in my massive bird gook that I'm using to press flowers next to my desk... getting back to that. How about a Secretary Bird?
I was actually going to suggest a penguin for six but I see someone's beat me to the Fobisher jokes. ^^ IDK, parrot maybe? Or, oooohh, here's a terrible idea, can his coat really be the skin of some crazy Frankenstein animal he killed or something, so he's that? ;P
Seven... A tubby fox. XD
Any thoughts for eight? (Goldfish perhaps? XD Poor amnesiac eight...)

Now that I think about it, I remember seeing a series of drawings someone had done on DA of different Doctors sitting on a park bench feeding different types of birds as though they were pidgins. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Found them! It's the 'Birds of a Feather' series by ~rachelroach on DA. rachelroach.deviantart.com/art/Five-s-Birds-of-A-Feather-197798524There's the link to Fivey and his mallard ducks. She has the links to the other ones in the description.

I can definitely see One as a rabbit or a hare.
For Seven, what about a jackal?

Yes, I think a rabbit or hare seems to be the best fit for One. I've been reading my bird book, and there's this bird called the Smew... And I need to google it to get some other angles, but the picture in the book really reminds me of Pertwee! XD How about a laughing Kookaburra or a Snipe for for Two. The African Open-billed Stork reminds me a bit of Four, but honestly I could do them all in birds... Let's have some variety! I was looking for something with spectacular plumage to be six... A few options, the Victoria Crowned Pigeon looked entertaining for one... But perhaps some sort of showy reptile or fish for him? Basically looks like a cross between a pigeon and a peacock, appropriate, I thought for Six. XD

I've been reading my bird book, and there's this bird called the Smew... Is there one called a Splink? (or better yet a Hopping Splink !) I love the series of the Doctors feeding birds at the park - and that they're feeding them jelly babies, too, lol...

Oh my gosh that's terrible! And the remix was awful! Pertwee's "Splink!" at the end will never get old though, I totally shriek with laughter every time. XD Having watched some of the other videos that popped up after I followed your link, I would like to counter with this family of Bee Gee-wannabe hedgehogs, and on the screen at the end, the slogan I was personally taught. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnwxN24E2yY&feature=relatedLol, I had forgotten they were jelly babies! ^^ I think I'm going to change ten to a roadrunner... I'll probably redraw the whole line up. That's honestly what I think whenever I see a picture of a roadrunner, "Gosh, that looks a bit like David Tennant!" It's a bit weird honestly...

I seriously love the hedgehog theme for road-crossing safety - I wonder how often you find squashed hedgehogs on the roads in the UK... around here, we find squashed opossums mostly, with the usual smattering of squirrels. The only animal theme I remember being taught in grade school was "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute" along with a cartoon owl - oh, and Smokey the Bear (Only YOU can prevent forest fires!).
Ten is totally a roadrunner, oh perfect! I've only seen one once, when I was visiting friends in Texas and they laughed at how excited I got when I saw it, but hey... it's only fair. I get to laugh at people who come to where I am and can't stop exclaiming "It's so GREEN!" and "The trees are HUGE!"... everyone has something, right?
The bird theme works pretty well in Who, heck, you could even say it's canon with that time Peri almost got turned into one.

Sadly my parents nor school used anything so exciting as hedgehogs to impress daily lessons upon me. By by gosh I'll never forget 'Stop, Look, and Listen' or 'Stop, Drop, and Roll.' (So pretty much as long as the rest of my life only involves crossing streets and putting myself out if I catch on fire, I'm set for life, right!?) I've unfortunately never seen a roadrunner in person, but I keep running across pictures of them... I have a thing to birds to begin with, and it would be possible to find perfect matches for all of them as bird, diverse as they are... I'm fairly tempted to just do them all as birds... But I kind of want the variety at the same time. Yes, I enjoy giving judging looks to people who are impressed by how green and hilly it it here, their counter reactions are always entertaining. I love seeing little (and big) critters when I do go somewhere, or even just around here. Every once in a while we are reminded that large birds of prey do in fact inhabit the area when one takes down it's lunch in our back yard. I am not familiar with this instance of which you speak, and I cant help but feel sympathy for the bird kingdom in general... Also- Anyone have suggestions for Eight? I kind of just want to say unicorn and leave it. (After Seeing I and the adventure of Henrietta St. I think there's some mention of that in both of those.) We could probably use some more for Seven too...

That would be Vengeance on Varos, I believe - where Peri and another gal end up in a mad scientist type situation, being turned into whatever their instincts are... the other one was going lizard-y because (or so spouted the instigator of the madness) she wanted to hide down in the earth or some such... Peri was sprouting feathers and talons because she wanted to fly away from it all. It was pretty wacky. As a non-Peri-fan, I admit I wasn't too upset by it, I even found it a bit of an improvement.

One of my all-time scariest moments in Who, watching as a wee nipper. As I may have mentioned once or twice, here and there...
