Well, hot damn, I'm excited. Couldn't you at least make have your escorts dress up as Companions or something?

OH damn, I missed it before it was deleted....
Where do we find the "companion girls?" *remember the warning from the Professor in Continuity Errors? Parents, lock up your daughters...the doctor may be coming to kidnap them...wisk them off, and you'll never see them again! A fate worse than death... ;D

Always wondered how they managed to explain their absences to family and friends - especially Ian and Barbara (though I've seen a couple fics that tackled that very problem for them). What about Tegan? Or even Sarah-Jane? Even an orphan has people who're bound to wonder what's become of them when they vanish like that and then reappear toting owls.
And yes, Companions would be rather more likely to be welcomed here - though judging by what the series did to Amy and her rather risque introductory employment, maybe it's not as far off as we'd like to think. :-P

Notice how Amy's employment has never, ever been mentioned ever again (although the police uniform has showed up again)? Not necessarily a bad thing...
I do wonder how Ian and Barbara actually explained away their absence - and then managed to forge careers in academia if SJA etc is to be believed despite almost certainly having been sacked from their teaching jobs. Mind you, they were Ian and Barbara, and pretty resourceful, so if anyone could... Ben and Polly were the luckiest in that respect - and it was luck on Two's part. I think Sarah would have probably had her problems squared by UNIT if she asked nicely. I do wonder though how many companions were initially thought to have met bad ends, as with Rose's first trip with the Doctor (poor Mickey!)?

I do wonder though how many companions were initially thought to have met bad ends, as with Rose's first trip with the Doctor (poor Mickey!)? Let's see: - Susan: This rather depends on which origin story applies to her.
- Ian and Barbara: Got home three years late; the books have their friends thinking they'd eloped, which they go along with.
- Vicki: When the rescue ship arrived and failed to find her, they'd have to conclude she was dead.
- Steven: He was already presumed dead at the time the Doctor picked him up, wasn't he? If not, presumed dead in the destruction of the Mechanoid city.
- Katarina: Presumed dead in the destruction of Troy.
- Sara: At a guess, reported as missing, believed dead, on Mira. Chen would know the truth, but not be inclined to tell it.
- Dodo: Unless she was taken from the same day she returned to, she was probably reported as missing. And, if the books are to be believed, would have turned up later up not in her right mind and unable to give any clear account of what had happened to her.
- Ben and Polly: Get back the day they left, with nothing to explain except how they got from central London to Gatwick Airport.
- Jamie: Prior to The War Games, presumed killed in the aftermath of Culloden. Post The War Games, the presumption may be accurate.
- Victoria: Presumed killed when the Daleks blew up her house.
- Zoë: Pre The War Games, her disappearance would probably have been covered up by UNIT or a successor organisation, who'd know all about the Doctor and his habit of abducting young women. Post The War Games, all she has to explain is how she got back from the Silver Carrier to the Wheel without a spacesuit.
- Liz, Jo, Sarah, Harry: One guesses that UNIT would have covered for any attempt to get into contact with them.
- Leela: I haven't seen her first story, but if her tribe last saw her in the company of the baby-eating Evil One, they should be able to put two and two together.
- Romana: The Time Lords seem to have known she was alive and in the Doctor's company, because they summoned her back.
- Adric: Unless he told Keara what he was planning, he'd presumably be written off as killed by the Marshmen.
- Nyssa: There's no-one left to miss her.
- Tegan: Could well have been reported missing, by her employers if not her family.
- Turlough: I think the novelisation of Mawdryn Undead explains that the Brigadier came up with a cover story for his departure.
- Peri: Presumed drowned?
- Mel: We know precious little of her origin story, but it's quite likely that she'd have been reported missing.
- Ace: Was canonically listed as a missing person.
So, at a guess, Vicki, Steven, Katarina, Sara, Dodo, Jamie, Victoria, Leela, Adric, Tegan, Peri, Mel and Ace are candidates whose mysterious disappearances would give the impression that they'd come to bad ends.

I'm all for replacing the outmoded (as of... what time is it?) fan term "companion", and replacing it with "beautiful escort girl".

I can rig the forum to replace all instances of companion with "Beautiful Escort Girl" but I think it might raise a few eyebrows.
...not that I'm not tempted.

Just for one day, that would be hilarious! Now, every time I see or think of that phrase, it's funnier and funnier to me.... it's just so stupid! A possible alternative would be to replace all instances of "Jamie" with "beautiful escort girl Jamie"!
