Martha speaks bubbles? And how can bubbles be a form of communication? Their size, shape, movements and speed aren't predictable.

I like the fact that I'm attached to a fandom where it's possible for someone to say something like this with a straight face. I'm not mocking, I mean it. It's strange, but good-strange. How far into Tennant's third season are they now? I'm only just seeing more of his second season now.

Clifford is capable of saying many humourous things with a straight face. It's rather amusing.
And what they meant was that the TARDIS actually was translating it for Martha, but thought it would be better for the viewers not to understand. As to why, I've no idea.

I'm assuming it is like fish. The bubbles aren't them talking but a result of their talking in the water. Martha speaks bubbles? And how can bubbles be a form of communication? Their size, shape, movements and speed aren't predictable.

Why couldn't they just say so?

Now that's a good question. Why couldn't they just say so?

They did. Just not in the actual episode.

Right, Newton I agree with you whole-heartedly, on every single point, and I had the same thoughts about the bubbles. This was annoying, badly acted, and I couldn't figure out the plot (sorry everyone who liked it). I knew the Doctor's Daughter would be a Mary-Sue from the second I saw her in the preview but ferverntly hoped otherwise. Then she had to fufil every single Mary-Sue cliche: blonde, blue-eyed beautiful girl who can seduce men, is feisty, is freakishly good at everything she turns her hands to, has a tragic past, has difficulty coming to terms with herself, everyone loves her (except for evil people), she dies nobly if she dies at all - it is a well known fact that Mary-Sues are practically immortal and can only die under tragic self-sacrificing circumstances involving kittens. Also: why the heck did she come back to life without regenerating? Why the heck would regenerating even be a possibility? That's not an inborn characterist of Time Lords it's something that get when they graduate from the academy. Obscure canon, but still. And why the heck (seriously, this is a major issue) why the heck did she step, fully formed out of a tube wearing make-up? She's supposed to be a soldier... make-up? And what's with the one old dude? Why is he old when everyone else is young (20 generations in a day or something) or did I miss something? The whole story confused me. The war of random that's never really explained confuses me. Okay, so: colony of people and fish people gets built in seven days. They don't have many people building the complex because they plan to populate the planet with clones after it is teraformed. And then the clones all start fighting for some reason. Also, the Doctor revealed the hidden map with his sonic. How on earth dd Martha do it? And if it was easy enough for her, who wasn't familar with the technology then how... okay, logic is out the window here anyway. I only managed to sit through this because I was watching with my room mate and we spent the whole time groaning and making Mary-Sue Gary-Stu jokes. And then the Mary-Sue died and I was almost happy, until she came back in flurry of awful cheesy BAD that sets the scene for a reappearance, or worse, *shudders* a spin-off. Sorry again to you who liked it, but I thought this was just angst, Mary-Sues, and a chance to be clever with: oh look it's the Doctor's Daughter and she actually is in real life, aren't we clever?
