We've played Doctor Vs. Doctor and Pairing Vs. Pairing; what do people think about trying Enemy Vs. Enemy? Will Daleks reign supreme, or will Simm stand out? Can the Cybermen outlast the Weeping angels? Mods, please read and think about it . . .

Oh, I think Clocket is always looking for another X vs Y... ;D I don't know if we'd get such excellent fanfic out of this one, but fingers crossed anyway!

We had villain vs villain once I think (I remember having the worst time choosing the villains). Could do it again though with different villains. THERE ARE SO MANY VILLIANS! Hmmm...
How about story vs. story? Of course... I'd only put in good stories like Voyage of the Damned, Time and the Rani, and The Gun Slingers. LOL

How about supporting character vs supporting character? That's a good idea as well . . . As for too many villains, we could do Master vs. Master. It would be shorter, but could be a lot of fun, too. If we do end up with villain vs. villain, I do suggest a mix between classic Who and new Who . . . some of the old baddies are just too cool to skip! Go Zygons! ;D

I mentioned this everywhere else, but I don't think I said it here: I've done a version of the original shuffler that groups in threes, rather than pairs. Not sure I'd want to write fic for some of the combinations it comes up with, though. I mean, Eleven / Rory / Romana II is one thing, but Peri / One / Adric? Hand me the brain bleach...

I rather like the supporting characters idea, it might work to narrow it if we had the same number of 'supporters' (erm...people/characters, not undergarments) for each Doctor's era.

Ooo... that could be fun. So, random potential companion vs. random potential companion.
Lynda with a Y vs Nasreen
that scientist lady from Kinda vs um... I'm coming up short.
Lost had a series of fics about these people though if I remember correctly.

the two guys in The Arrmageddon Factor. One was that useless boy (who is a doctor... wtf?) who did stupid stuff because he is ~*~* in Looooove *~*~
The other dude was like the helper of that battle crazy American dude. the other dude even helps the Doctor out for a fair bit. He also makes me think of Patrick from One foot in the Grave.
The Time Monster has the female doctor and her brother? Still... they did a fair bit to help AND the made Benton a wee little baby.

that scientist lady from Kinda vs um... I'm coming up short. vs Ray? Um, well, I had 1 series of fics where the companions all left to marry random people. (I mean random people they didn't marry, not the actual random people they left to marry). And another with the Doctor's thing for scientific/clever females in drabbles. (It took me a moment to remember sometimes people call me lost round here. It sounded strange! I suppose Spook would be even weirder.)

I very much hope you don't mean The Gunfighters, which is a brilliant, much maligned First Doctor serial, otherwise, once the Clancy brothers and Doc Holliday have finished there, we'll have to have a showdown at the OK Corral! Or possibly just sing a lot. And hope the piano knows it! I LOVE The Gunfighters. Even Dodo's great in it. Erm... Anyway, random companion vs random companion sounds fun. D84, anyone? (Ignoring his fate, of course.) I can think of: Todd (from Kinda) Ray (from delta & the Bannermen) Norna (from Frontios) Damon (from Arc of Inifinty) The OTT actor from the one with the Terileptils (sorry, brain collapsed) Adam Colby (from Image - that would be amusing. "What, Professor, you STILL don't believe we've landed on an alien planet? How many times has it been now?") Mrs Tyler (as above, because, duh.) Richard (from Silver Nemesis. Even if he is really a murderous henchman.) Mags (from Greatest Show) All the UNIT-alikes from Remembrance Ping Cho (from Marco Polo) Samantha Briggs (ask Johne if you don't know) Princess Astra (from Armageddon Factor) Bambera and Ancelyn (from Battlefield) Chela (from Snakedance) Will Chandler (from The Awakening) Algernon ffinch or Hannah Gordon's character from The Highlanders (because frankly, anyone is as likely as taking Jamie along in that one!) I don't think all of those are would-be companions, but they come close in one way or another.

Litefoot vs Jago! Those two conmen in The Ribos Operation. Cliff vs the King of Peladon! Poul (from The Robots of Death. Just don't introduce him to K9, obviously...) Isobel from The Invasion vs Anne Travers from The Web of Fear. Duggan!
It could work.

Er, uh, no, I'd never do that... face!palm Heh, there's so many excellent supporting characters! The only trouble is that there are so many and some of them are a bit obscure. Hmm... We'd have to include episode names to jog people's memories and include people from every era so that everyone can play. Like... the blue plumber girl from End of the World and what-was-her name, the head of the Preachers in Rise of the Cybermen (who went on to inexplicably show up in that one Sarah-Jane Adventures episode...)

I'm kind of afraid to ask after the illustration but... Samantha Briggs? From The Faceless Ones -- played by Pauline Collins, who was asked to stay on as a full companion and turned the offer down. She turns up quite a bit in my fic ;D As it happens, she's rather fond of Jamie...

And Lynda with a y, (who was in also her name if nothing else, an obvious nod to the other Lynda with a y.) Mind you, that would mean we could count Shakespeare and Agatha Christie, I suppose. :-D

I like the non-companion supporting characters idea... I was tempted follow up lostspook's post suggesting historical characters the Doctor has encountered. Just from NuWho you've got:
Charles Dickens Queen Victoria Madame de Pompadour Elizabeth I William Shakespeare Agatha Christie Winston Churchill Vincent van Gogh
Of course, when you take old Who into account too, or that part of it that's in black and white anyway, it's quite a list and just becomes Historical Character vs Historical Character... ;D

Yeah, there's Marco Polo, Wyatt Earp, King richard... ...But then, that's not where we started wth this... I love the idea of random character vs random character, but it might take acres of fic or something to explain ourselves before we even started... And, of course, I should just keep quiet, as I never like killing people off like that. It seems mean.

I love the idea of random character vs random character, but it might take acres of fic or something to explain ourselves before we even started... The problem would be finding characters that everyone was familiar with. Perhaps it could be done with a Round 1 to choose the stories first (say, each story starts on 1 point) -- then pick one character from each story, and set them off against each other in Round 2. I fear it might end up being nuWho-heavy, though, since it's more likely that everyone here's seen (say) Smith and Jones than something like The Deadly Assassin.
