With a whir and a crash, a bang and a clash, the TARDIS materialized on a new planet.
New places to explore, new people to meet, the Doctor was sure he was in for a treat!
So come around one, come around all, hearken to greet or the Doctor might bawl. Hello! =) I'm new here; thus this post in the Introductions forum. I got into Doctor Who when I was a young teenager. My first episode was "Rose," and my first Doctor was Christopher Eccleston who, to this day, remains my Doctor although others take the crown as the best Doctor to my mind. I worked my way through the NuWho episodes, Nine and Ten's in any case, before taking the plunge into TradWho. I'm afraid that while I have had the pleasure of perusing much of TradWho thus far, and have seen every Doctor - and heard a few too -, I'm not nearly close to having watched all of them and am even further away from having listened to all of the Big Finishes currently available or read all of the books. I do intend to eventually correct this, but it is slow going. I'm currently working my way through all of the available television episodes, even the reconstructions, and am quite enjoying the task. My current favorite Doctor may very well be Colin Baker. I have heard and read of numerous person's dislike for him, but I am quite taken with his story and his execution of it. However, depending on my mood and my most recently watched episode, I may sometimes name Bill Hartnell to be my favorite. As Colin largely based his character on Bill's, though, that is not all that surprising. I am not a writer, as one may surmise from my hackjob whatsit at the top of this post, and I have never tried my hand at fanfiction for any genre. However, I would like to give it a shot and pretend to be a writer for a while so that I can produce something, more for fun than for quality. I imagine that my quality will rise in time and I ought to stop psyching myself out with how bad I'm sure my first story/ies will be. As such, it is now merely an issue of finding a plot and the time to write. I do role-play, and I'd like to think I'm fairly decent at that. I haven't had all that much experience with Doctor Who roleplays, though. I'm not too big a fan of non-canonical pairings. Not to say that I dislike them, but I don't like them. There is a difference. They don't turn me off of a fanfiction or a roleplay, but neither do they attract me to them nor would I, most likely, involve myself in writing them. If I wrote. I <3 <3 Chameleon Circuit. And...I really can't think of anything else to say that might be of interest. If you can, feel free to ask. =)

Welcome, welcome! So pleased to have you here - sounds like you're having a good wade into the seemingly bottomless world of Who and it's rather fun to have some Six fans here too. Wander about, go ahead and post in anything that catches your fancy and enjoy.

Why hi there! I'm Clocket and my intro to Who story is almost exactly the same as yours - except I was more in my mid-teens at the time. Nine is still mine even if the other ones try to steal the title; I think Seven and Three and Eleventy are my favourites though... or... well... whoever I happen to be watching anyway.

Welcome! Yes, it's nice that we're getting Six fans, maybe now he won't be eliminated so quickly when we play a game of Doctor vs. Doctor (says the person who's killed him off at least once, I can't remember if I've done it any more than that : . One usually doesn't last too long either. I'm not a big Six fan myself but he is superb in the audios, isn't he? Also, I don't know if you're interested in joining a Doctor Who RP or not, but I co-run one that's always looking for new members. I feel funny about being overly self-promotey of another board here, so that's all I'll say, but the link's in my profile if you want it. Hope to see you at DW Live tonight!

Oh, me and Dustbin here will protect Six, no doubt there. And your rp sounds interesting. I'll check it out for sure. Thanks for letting me know about him. = ) I don't usually do NuWho Rps, but I might make an exception here. Might join as Sarah Jane.

Y hallo thar! Well, we did meet last night, I'd like to give you a proper welcome. Nine was also my first Doctor, but my definite favourite is Four, then One, followed by Seven, and then the rest sort of wrestle for spots 4-11. ;D I did not know that C. Baker took so much inspiration from Hartnell. That makes me look forward to seeing more of him (I've only seen Vengeance on Varos, which I loved). I'm not too big a fan of non-canonical pairings. Aren't most Who-pairings non-canonical? ;D

Aren't most Who-pairings non-canonical? ;D = ) Too true, too true. That's a very apt statement. Here's the interview where Colin talks about basing his Doctor on One, in some ways. It's pretty interesting and makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Link

Welcome, welcome! Good to see you at DW Live the other night, and I hope you enjoy yourself here - I see the others have already been meeting and greeting you! ;D
I think we have a pretty broad range of tastes and interests here has regards Who, and the more the merrier I say. We have Three fans (lots of Three fans!), Four fans, people who came to the classic series via the new series, people who were classic series fans before there was a new series, Brits, Canadians, USA-ians and possibly other nationalities too. So yeah. I'm a Seven fan (among others) - there are more of us about than you might think. ;D

@ RTP - <33
@ primsong - Thank you muchly. Does your name have a particular meaning?
@ Clocket - Haha, I certainly have that "issue." Whenever I'm watching a Doctor other than Colin or Bill, I begin questioning my choice of 'favorite.' I am back to either Colin or Bill within a few hours, though.
@ IMForeman - I almost went for your name as a username. xD Also, *jumps to protect poor Kitten.*
Yes, he definitely shines in the audios; which is good given how ready he is to do them. I absolutely love him; and I love that he sounds nearly identical to himself as a younger man.
I'll certainly check the roleplay out and send yo ua profile if I'm interested. I'm currently involved in two other roleplays and that might be my max at a time. I'll see. Thanks for the invite. <33
@ Maggadin - Great seeing you at DWlive. <33 And yes, they are. My statement holds, though. I am not overly fond of pairings outside of cannon. Barbara and Ian, Polly and Ben, Mike and Jo, etc. are a given in my mind when thinking of pairings. Non-cannonical pairings just leave me shrugging my shoulders with a 'meh.' I'll get excited about it if the fanfic or roleplay is done exceptionally well, but not because of the pairing itself.
The only minor exception is that I squee over Peri/Colin!Doctor...but only because they got married and how bloody awesome is that? >.< Errr, and Romana II/Tom!Doctor to a lesser extent. But I don't seek out work that pairs these couples either, and would not be likely to write it. If I wrote.
And yeah, I found out about Colin basing his character somewhat on Bill's portrayal of the Doctor and I felt ever so smart as I had just been commenting on how much like Colin Bill was. xD
@ jjpor - Ooh, love Seven and Ace. I hope to hear more of their audios. I think I've heard two of them. Well, one with Ace and one with Mel. Seven is brilliant. And I love how he rolls his 'r's - and any other consonant that he feels needs some embellishment.

I find it rather ironic that you support Ben/Polly, Dustbin, when you've never seen an episode of them. Or Mike/Jo, when they never officially made it to a single date. Not to mention, that Ian/Barbara isn't officially canon if you ignore the books. They don't get married, or even officially hooked up, in the show. (Though we all know they did anyway. = ) )
But I do agree, Six/Peri is much love. But then again, this is coming from someone who ships just about everyone in Doctor Who. The obvious, like Four/Romana. The random, like Delgado!Master/Jo. And even the downright bizarre, like Valeyard/Peri or Celestial Toymaker/Charley. (Yeah, I know, I'm a freak. But I'm a freak of love! = ) )

@ Newton - A trait I picked up from the people I hang with on GaiaOnline
@ RTP - I accept the television show as canon. Ben and Polly meet in a night club and are together from the start. How could that not be canon?
Mike/Jo are canonical in that they tried. They expressed clear interest in each other. Nothing more, to my knowledge or, currently, in my canon.
Ian and Barbara's dynamic was very much of two people in love; and this is from someone who dislikes the assumption that a male and a female who are friends in a story must inevitably end up together. It isn't at all a stratch to say that the two had interest in each other. Besides which, I do accept the books, at least the ones I have read, as canon. Why wouldn't I? You are the one who told me that they are BBC sanctioned. I just don't incorporate the books'/audios' canon into my own until after I have read/heard it (as opposed to the television canon).
As to odd pairings, as long as it isn't Kandyman/Charley or some such! xD ('Oh, Kandyman, you just are so...appetizing. I find myself thinking of you, desiring you, just a lick, all the day long. I suck on a peppermint to try and distract myself, but no mere candy can compare to the real thing. Oh! Oh! Yummmm!')
>.> <.<
'Cause the Kandyman can. xD

I amend my statement: apparently Ben and Polly aren't together. I haven't read or watched any of their episodes and I had thought they hooked up in the nightclub where they met. Woops.

But Kandyman/Charley is the best pairing EVER!! The thing with Who though is that it has no canon + multiple possible timelines. I mean, I guess most people take what's in the show itself as canon with the spin-off media in second... except, the main show contradicts itself constantly, often in the same episode. I like the Zagreus theory myself. Eight sees all of the dimensions and all of the possibilities and all of the random audios and comics and novels and spin-off universes and, heck, even the fic gets brought into some giant strange Who multiverse. ... which is really just my cop-out because saying it's all true is so much easier than trying to untangle the sticky mess which is Who canon. Also, I like like coming up with bizarre pairings and trying to figure out how the heck that could even work: Jack/Peri Donna/Andred Ten/Cake *coughs* Ian/Barbara is canon in every universe though. It just is. And Ben would definitely argue the couple point. Him and Polly DO meet in a nightclub trying to flirt with each other. It's kind of adorkable.

I agree with you completely about Ian/Barbara and Ben/Polly. You're right that Jo and Mike were interested in each, although Mike's feelings seem to have been stronger. Doctor/Romana is canon to me (and to many of the writers, it seems). As you said about Ian/Barbara, I just think they have that particular dynamic (and I think it's there with both Romanas). I also love Sarah Jane/Harry and Liz/Brig. Amy/Rory is very nice, too.

Hi I'm lostspook, and am behind the times round here as usual. But hello! I like all the Doctors very much, with especial fondness for all the Classic sorts, and I do love Six, especially his audios, and writing for him. (He has Potential). As to pairings, I agree with the 'canonical' ones cited here - and Ben/Polly are so included. I'd read only the books for years, where the suggestion is always tentatively, and when i finally got to watch The War Machines was amazed that there was nothing tentative about it - they meet in a nightclub, chat each other up, arrange a date, and Ben spends the rest of the episode (and probably the rest of the series) trying to save Polly. In The Power of the Daleks, Polly tells hers kidnappers that they wouldn't be so brave if they were dealing with "...a real man - like Ben!" Awww. *cough* I do like Ben/Polly. Sorry. Got carried away. They are level with Ian/Barbara. I love Harry/Sarah, too, but it's so hard to find a non-tragic way to get it into canon these days. Anyway, my very favourite Doctor is always Seven, who was my first, but I have a lot of love for Hartnell and Troughton. And all the others - it's so hard to decide! I hope you have fun here. We are all pretty nice, most of the time, but some of us have an obsession with cake. Especially chocolate cake.

But Kandyman/Charley is the best pairing EVER!! You shouldn't say these things. Particularly when you then juxtapose them with talk of Sweet Hearts (Kandyman/Charley, drabble) ] "Well," Charley said. "I didn't have a lot of options. So I thought I'd have a go at seducing him."
"Seducing?" The Doctor's eyes nearly fell out of his head. "Charley, the Kandyman is a psychotic killer robot! That should never have worked!"
"I have to say it didn't go exactly as planned," Charley admitted. "If he hadn't melted when he did, things could have been sticky." She looked down at herself. "Well, stickier."
"He didn't hurt you?"
"No, but I did get a bit of a shock." She grimaced, then smiled. "He mentioned a 'Fondant surprise.' It certainly was." [

I... *uncorks Brainbleach* Ah, that's better. Yeah, I go with the view that canon is what you make it - after all, for most of Who's history the people producing it have just been making it up as they went along without getting too anxious about making the new stuff 100% consistent with what went before, so... But Ian/Barbara - Ian/Barbara has to be true, to my mind anyway. Okay, it was never outright stated, but heavily implied surely. I don't think I'm really open to argument on that one. ;D Same with Ben/Polly, Doctor/Romana etc I badly want Harry/Sarah to be true, whatever the available evidence might say (although lostspook is right, it does have bad implications for Harry's post-onscreen fate). Liz/Brig strikes me as only right and proper too. I think Mike/Jo never quite happened, although it was heavily on the cards. That Cliff! Him and his long-haired hippie wiles! ;D And Brigadier Bambera/Ancelyn, of course, is 100 percent onscreen canon!

Oh, Kandyman/Charley is the best. I must know add this to my list of awesome pairings. I'd love to see someone attempt a good, actually realistic, horribly comedic fic about that. = )
And I agree with all of these pairings. Ian/Barbara, Ben/Polly, Harry/Sarah, Brig/Liz (especially Brig/Liz. That flirting was clearly canon.) And Doctor/Romana, of course. With the Whoniverse being the wacky, crazy, timey wimey thing that it is, you can really pair just about anybody and, with a little effort, make it completely realistic. As for my own canon, I tend to be rather all-enclusive too, but the main canon I use is TV show/Big Finish, and then I toss a lot of the books and comics in, but I usually consider Big Finish as canon as the show, if not more so. (Though I do ignore End of Time. I don't know how 10 regenerated, but I ignore. We'll just say he... bumped his head on the console? = ) Yes, that'll work.)
I also support Eight/Charley and, very strongly, Six/Peri. I love Doctor/Romana, but I think Doctor/Peri has become my steadfast favorite. I can't ignore it's cute, highly dysfunctional awesomeness. They were constantly holding hands, hugging, just generally touching each other. It was great. Not to mention that Peri seemed to know everything about him. Who Jamie was, who Susan was, what Jo looked like, his name. (I consider that line in 'The Mysterious Planet' to be a very clear indication of this. Isn't making canon fun? = ) )
